Great video, brings back a lot of memories. My dad was a motorman on the BMT. When I was a kid back in the '60's he would let me go to work with him sometimes. Grab a hot dog at Nathans then get the train in the yard. I would stand at that front window the whole trip. On the trip back I'd get off at Kings Hwy and catch the bus home...

and the. M which ran local it took you forever to get anywhere with the local,
They used to break down like crazy,,
Over 40 years ago and it still runs a little slow in my eyes but a whole lot better

Good Morning. Born and raised in Brooklyn. Grew up talking the No. 2 Train when it went to New Lots. Then got off at Atlantic Ave to transfer to the M train when it went to Coney Island Brought back memories also use to take the Franklin Ave Shuttle back in the mid 70's going to JR High School out in Flatbush Ditmas JH School( out here they call it "Middle School) The NY Daily News and the Post along with the radio stations 1010 wins and WCBS 880 and TV station WPIX used to keep me connected. Now it's your videos and they look great on my 50 inch Roku tv and they are relaxing. Thank you and also the Transit workers. Historical comment- the Q during the early MTA was split into QT(via Tunnel),and QB(via Bridge),and those were the former BRT/BMT local/ Express lines on the Brighton line! Also when the old elevated lines were in operation, there was overhead trolley operation, and combined streetcar terminals! That was long before Stillwell Avenue was born! See the ERA book,on the BRT/BMT prior to 1940,interesting history!! Thank you 😇 😊!

@57:12 to the left of the track, that is probably the old underpass from the original 1904 IRT station above, I don't believe it goes all the way down to BMT track level but about half way or so. Either way, that's why the tracks "split" a bit so they can accommodate it. I also think you can see the extended BMT mezzanine above, which has long been covered up and forgotten.

Another good vid on the (Q)uincy line. I have operated on this line quite often last year. It's a good but pretty long line on the Brighton line Section. On some days I wish I was on the B train passing me as I was stopping at on the local station. It does get better once you're in Manhattan after you cross the Bridge it goes a little faster. It does go very white knuckles for me when it's fall and leaves on the tracks you have to operate the train so carefully that you don't slide out the station!!

I think I know why the Second Avenue Subway is the IND Second Avenue Line and not the BMT Second Avenue Line despite connecting to the BMT Broadway Line as a continuation of the latter’s express tracks via 63rd St. When the full line opens, its southern terminus will be Hanover Sq and served by the upcoming T train. However, there may be a possibility of the line extending further and connecting to Brooklyn via a new tunnel and link with the IND Fulton Street Line at Court St which is a continuation of the line’s local tracks and has been converted to the NY Transit Museum. This would mean the museum would have to permanently close down but it’s the only reason for the Second Avenue Line being IND and not BMT that meets my eye.

Thanks for posting the Q route, was really looking forward to seeing how they did the SAS extension. Thought it was worth mentioning how COMPLETELY UNNECESSARY that 1-shot GT timer signal is near 49th St (57:53 in the video), and then there's a two-shot GT signal a couple hundred feet after it as it approaches 57th/7th which seems redundant since 57/7th already has a 1-shot GT in the middle of the platform. Case in point, the LOCAL train overtakes the Q as it's pulling into 49th to stop because the Q has to slow down so much for that 1-shot GT. What is the point of these signals slowing the Q down?
It is purely straight track for 90% of that stretch from Times Sq/42 to 57/7 and there was no obvious switch near that GT signal to protect. Unless I'm missing something or there's another good reason, then ladies and gentleman this is a perfect example of why our subways are SOOOO SLOW. Unnecessary grade time signals slowing trains down.

There are literally LOTS of abandoned stub ends of tunnels and elevated structures; those two tracks were removed because they represented "overcapacity". This also goes for several miles of express tracks that remain unused to this very day.

There’s no reason for the MTA trains to be running this slow. For example this Q train literally runs in damn near a straight line its entire route and idk why it’s runs so slow from Atlantic to dekalb. The Manhattan bridge is understandable

Looking forward to a system that is not only the fastest, but the cleanest and most efficient; the system is slowly making the changes with the resources they have.

Those timers on the express at 49st and again at 57st are unnecessary. Continuous straight track.

Fair point you make as you are entitled to your opinion. We can only hope that as they continue to do the necessary work to improve the system, they can eventually find ways to speed up certain areas.
