Main music is DK Dokuro - Passport.MID (Sega Genesis 90's remix)
Today, I will be going over Daft Punk, the French house electronic duo consisting of Thomas Bangalter and Guy-Manuel de Homem-Christo, and their debut album Homework. They created the albums Homework and Discovery as well, and Human After All. This project has lots of songs such as Da Funk and Aroudn the World, both having music videos. Random Access Memories was a great album as well. We also find the secrets and hidden trivia sall around the album. Daft Punk really had an amazing run with full albums and weird music video. This was a fun video to make.
I do a lot of Daft Punk Instrumental AND hip hop Instrumentals, but this time I'm doing a music breakdown / discussion of sorts on Homework: The Dog Days Of Daft Punk...
If this video does well to me, I can continue this.
Not review, video essay, music video, playlist, or anything like that. An onlysmallbites original video. This is more of a vlog / talk video with nice drawings / art

The thing is, Kanye asked permission and credited them, Will I Am did not.
Yes he diiiid. CLEAR YOUR SAMPLES, Y'ALL!
Will.i.am just said "THIS IS A REMIX" a couple of times before the remix, thinking he would get away with it
@@martijnrolvers2878 Will. I. Am is an idiot 😂😂 lol
Sure. But I think the biggest factor was that the song from Will I am is shit. if it'd been better they coulda made a deal but that 'remix' is hot garbage xd
@@martijnrolvers2878 A source said that Daft Punk told will.i.am “our music is better without you”.
Also a fun fact: The equipment used for Homework is publicly available in a Japan issue they did back in the 90s.
Ah, yes! The one article that got me interested in the drum machines *and has ruined the album for me because everytime I hear a drum beat, I think "oh, that's a 909 kick with a Linn open hi-hat, but they're messing with the decay!"*
wait is that jsr music i hear in the background
lovin' that JET SET in the background
Just doing my part for jet set radio awareness
@@onlysmallbites I still listen to JSR. Love that funky music.
@@onlysmallbites what kind of person dont know some JSR amirite
Also fun fact (that I’ve heard by word of mouth) about Phoenix: Apparently Daft Punk’s favorite movie is a 1974 movie called Phantom of the Paradise. The love interest’s name in the movie is Phoenix, there’s a masked robot-esque character, and Paul Williams, who’d later go on to sing in Touch, wrote music and starred in the movie.
Wait actually? I'm a huge fan of phantom-inspired movies (phantom of the paradise derives from phantom of the opera-) so this was really cool to hear about!
@@shepsfield Yeah the movie’s real! My favorite character is Beef!
I bought the homework CD as a joke some years ago and its become a staple of my CD collection. Unlike discovery or RAM its something you blast in your car or by yourself.
Haha, that's really funny. It always be the ironic things. That was literally me with hip hop group run the jewels some odd years ago. Have any favs on it?
@@onlysmallbites My favorites are fresh, High fidelity, around the world, and Phoenix.
Yes, I know you were asking the other person and this was two years ago, I just really wanted to answer. 😅
@@lavender_angel8213To me are Daftendirekt, Da Funk, Rollin and Scratchin and Rock'nRoll
Why buy it as a joke?
i can't turn off my radio either :/
Underrated channel bruh... should have 20k views by now.
v true
Fun fact: "Indo Silver Club" was the name of their alias and "Part One" was the name of the disk. The two tracks on the disk were actually untitled. Also they started wearing masks in early 1997.
Indo silver club was a club in Paris
Ex Rex
They started wearing haloween masks since 1993 if i remember correctly

Have loved Daft Punk's music since I first heard "Burnin'". However, back when I had my brother's music library on my old phone, the tracks had numbers (and not names for some reason); it was only many years later when listening to the whole album online that I realized that I had the Homework album all those years ago with me!
Even if they're not making music anymore, Daft Punk will always be part of my collection.
One of Daft punks inspirations was the movie, phantom of the paradise. And one of the characters names was Phoenix
Omg I love Rollin' and Scratchin' . I saw Da Funk as a kid when it debuted, I thought he dog was related to McGruff the Crime dog. And Around the World scared me bc of the costumes so I really liked the Discovery. Love their music.
i wanna see the story behind Rollin' n Scratchin', which for some reason is one of my favorites
Rollin and Scratchin is one of my fav techno songs
My first experience I can remember with Daft Punk was seeing their album 'Homework' at the 'Blockbuster?' Music store in Victorville in 1997. You could listen to any album in the store as long as you wanted to. They would open it and you can listen in a half circle listening area. I read an article in a magazine at that time that stated they are way ahead of their time, and the full impact of this album will not be felt until years from now and they are setting a trend that people will attempt to follow. Groove Radio (now online only) played Around the World a lot and was a big hit. I really liked it and it was catch, but Homework didn't instantly connect to me, and while still a very good album, it was their 'homework' to their masterpiece Discovery.
Homework!! Rollin and scratchin!!! 90's raver right there! Been Daft Punk since day one!! Good videos Kid. Keep it up.
Lmao I just watched discovery and then as soon as I finished THIS CAME ON MY NOTIFICATIONS! HAHAHAHA
It was the same scenario for me because I was just getting into Daft Punk and then they retired. Their music is awesome, and they’re like my favorite artist now. Hope to see you upload more of this stuff, as I’d definitely watch it :)
The day that Homework was released was also the same day I was born. And I became a Daft Punk when I was a teen
Da Funk is my favourite daft punk song of all time, it goes soooo hard
Fun fact:it took daft punk a whole year for daft punk to come up with lyrics for around the world
Dude I can’t get over your avatar vibin every time you play sum bops
This album was able to slay me especially the remixes.
I traveled my path right next to their music until ram and had to drive back to the old libraries, and realize that damn these guys sound like the music I listen, but these ones have something in them.
But then again I never were music nerd.
DP music does not sound good with games I play, but it's the music I might find ways to write poetry.
Lapfoxtrax/Halleylabs provided me with music to game with. They have some brainwashers, like "nailgun".
Definitely one of the most underrated channels, Easily my fave channel
Homework is my favorite Daft Punk album. It has all those scritchy itchy scratches sounds idk why lmaoo
I like rollin and scratchin. I’m just waitin til you do a video on the live concerts.
Damn your editing is on point, it's rare to see this kind of quality on a channel so small
Hope your videos continue ton blow up
Great video! For about six weeks solid, aged 15, I would get home from school and switch on MTV to watch the 'Around the World' music video. I had definitely seen the video for 'Da Funk' but this one grabbed my attention, and from that moment I was a Daft Punk fan. My vinyl copy of 'Around the World' has been played too many times to mention!
I'm not into EDM but these guys influenced a shot ton of people
Absolutely love your videos ☺️ yeah, it was Homework that got me into Daft Punk, I remember buying the CD when I was 14!
brooo rollin and scratchin/ rock and roll go so hard
The algorithm has blessed you man! Keep going and keep up the good work :)
I love seeing this channel grow :)

1'000 subscriber i love your work man keep it going 🖤
Keep up the good work Man! Won’t be too long till 5k subs
fun fact: Alive is a final mix of the new wave on the new wave single (hence the name "ALIVE new wave final mix").
I didn’t like Rollin n Scratchin at first either, but it really grew on me and is now one of my fave tracks on the album! It sounds like an epic boiling tea kettle. I have to agree about Rock n Roll though. It’s the only DP song that I can’t listen to. It hurts my ears and gives me a headache. I’ve forced myself to listen to the whole thing one time and I felt like I was going to go insane 😂
I feel like I found a diamond when I found this channel! I subbed immediately on your discovery video and love this video all the same
well hey, that's great to hear thanks for sticking around. Got any fav songs off this or discovery?
Please do avideo about the wierd avant garde movie of theirs: electroma
this was great
Yo! Thanks for making another vid!
I love your channel you def deserve more subs
I feel this video is gonna have like 3000 likes in the future, the real big triple
Human after all let’s go
Thanks to fatduckboi making, The last Daft Punk video to 50 likes
Da Funk is my fav DP track of all time, and one of my fav tracks in general, it's a nice piece of Acid House with the hip-hop flavour.
BTW, 2:32 that long haired man is the Tom Rowlands from The Chemical Brothers
Also, Daftendirekt is in fact just thw part of Live Mix of "Da Funk", later taken as the separate track
Also, the Indo Silver club was released before they signed to Virgin on Soma, and the Album Version is in fact Indo Silver Club part2
I've come around on this album. The only parts I don't like are the 7-minute torture fests that are Rock'n Roll and Rollin' and Scratchin'. Everything else bangs.
wait.. only 1k !!! u deserve hella more...
I'll be watching your RUclips career with great interest. You got a gift.
Dude gratz for your suscribers, i m part of them so...
Nice Jet Set Radio OST dude
Glad I found your channel; the daft punk videos have been great!
Thanks for tuning in. Got any fav punk songs?
@@onlysmallbites You really can't go wrong with most of them, but I've always been partial to Digital Love on Discovery. It's got that touch of whimsy that makes it such a joy to listen to.
Great content my dude! New sub
This album is my number one favorite.
Yo you deserve the subs!
This is an amazing video! Lots of good things here! As the homework junkie I am (I play the vinyl almost everyday LOL) I knew pretty much all of this, however there were some rare stuff ive heard only a couple of times. Theres a lot of fun stuff that u didnt even touch! Not in a bad way of course but lots of fun stuff like the elton john sample in Phœnix or Karen Youngs *Hot Shot* sample in Indo Silver Club. Even Indo Silver Club in it of itself has two parts, the LP version was actually part 2. Daftendirekt was actually the beginning of Daft Punks Daftendirektour, which is where it shares it name. Daftendirektour is actually where the Alive 1997 snippet came from, Revolution 909 was sampled by the Gorillaz DARE. Alive was the New Wave jus sped up and remastered pretty much. I know alot of stuff lmao.....also I love Rollin n Scratchin and Rock n Roll haha. Keep working that grind man!
Another Homework fan, nice! This is probably the album I listen to most, and as the title implies, is actually great for studying. The baselines are soothing and powerful, the chords are rough yet slick, and the samples fit in so well. There's just the right amount of funk, techno, hip-hop, and acid to keep the beat flowing. Every track is unique, and the album doesn't feel like an obligation to listen to. Discovery is the more popular one and better made in some ways, but Homework has such an infectious energy to it, in part because it demands a more acquired taste. This is the kind of deep house and technofunk I expect! Timeless.
alive 1997 was recorded at birmingham, UK. Daftendirektour was at the mayan theater
Homework was the first album i heard by them
I heard a good analogy a daft punk’s homework
Discovery feels like it’s far into the future
Homework feels like it’s far in the past, but in a good way.
5:27 They also sampled Armand Van Helden's "Mecca Toast" for the drums and kick. They added delay to give it some impact.
Ayyyyyyyy
Please do the Roulé and Crydamoure (Daft Punk's Side Projects)
i can feel this guy becoming famous
Fun fact: the original da funk/rollin n scrathin single was originally going to have a song called drive instead of da funk. Drive got a release in 2011 instead on a soma compilation
Gorillaz also sampled the same street crowd sample.
I can't listen to both songs without paying attention to the one guy who just says "Suicide!" clearly.
These Jet Set Radio songs in the background...
Goat
These guys will be talked about forever
In the same way that Dave Brubeck's "Time Out" was so influential to American jazz via its shuffling of tempos, time signatures, and cultural tributes, I feel Homework does the same for much of modern house and electronica today. There wasn't anything like it at the time, so catchy, energetic, bloopy, and ecstatic. Daft Punk took a mostly niece genre of techno, (a genre that had limited appeal since its dawn in the 70's), tweaked it with their brilliance, and made timeless tracks that were universally beloved, (even by those who previously disliked electronica). Quite literally, they put the DANCE in Electronic DANCE Music. Listening to it today, Homework has not lost its touch and never will. If anything, the passing of time and watering down of contemporary EDM has only made Homework that much more infectious to the human ear. Not Daft Punk's most popular album, but it certainly is their magnum opus.
Fair enough, glad to hear this album had such an impact on you. I agree, they really were innovators in the genre and made songs that really felt like a restart of electronica. Have any fav songs on it?
@@onlysmallbites The best track on the album I'd say is Indo Silver. The mixing is flawless and the power rivals any of their live songs. One of the greatest club bangers I've ever heard. High Fidelity and Revolution 909 are also highly impressive. I have a soft spot for Fresh, but my personal favorite track off this LP is Rollin' & Scratchin'. It's one of their very first tracks and it's still one of their best. Each of the 4 versions are absolute bangers in their own ways. Rollin' is one of those songs where every note hits perfectly and the energy never dies. As much praise as I have for Homework though, it barely contends with the likes of Alive 1997! What's your favorite track off Homework? Discovery?
Dnag he grew almost twice in three days
Homework is probably my favourite dp album.
Noooo too many channels have already fallen to the allure of being a weird Darth Punk channel we can’t afford to lose you
I was 6 when this album came out lol and remember at school everbody hates the album
nice
when you didn't know Hunnid-P and Daft Punk went so well together until now
Please do a video on their live albums! I will even help with graphics.
Do you watch fact fiend? Awesome video and animation style. Like music codebullet. Love it
I'm not subscribed to FF, but his videos will pop into my recommended from time to time and if it interests me, i'll check it out. Good stuff.
6 days later and this man hit triple his goal in likes....
as he should
Human After All is so underrated
I got introduced in 6th grade from a reading article that mentioned harder better faster stronger and I got hooked immediately
Now that's funny. Now that you've experienced the Daft, got any new fav songs?
@@onlysmallbites It would probably be "Around the World/Harder Better Faster Stronger" from alive 2007, they have so many good songs especially from alive 2007 its so hard to chose lmao
Yoooo
More subs for you
I want more Daft Punk videos forreal! idk talk about their feet!
Can you please consider doing a video all about the TRON: Legacy soundtrack? I’d Derezz to see that covered :)
Whats the name of the main background song
Fun fact: Alive is one of the best techno songs ever made
My dad listened to Kraftwerk and Popcorn, and during my preteen years Eurodance was huge, but when Daft Punk came along, I was 13, and it blew everybody's minds. I was too poor to buy the album but there were many singles on the radio. Da Funk, Around The World, Burnin', Revolution 909, probably Rollin' and Scratchin'... it was amazing. People that hated dance were into Da Funk and ATW ! There were a few Da Funk type sounds soon after, but no one could do as well. Stardust set a more achievable standard, and being the success that it was, a huge wave of filter house followed.
Wow rolling and scratching played on the radio that's an interesting radio choice
Burnin is good too.
can anybody link me that clip @2:32 where Thomas is talking to Tom from the Chemical Brothers.
you are such a gamer
Can I get a heart from small bites
*_4:22_**_ I felt absolutely nothing cause I love both equally_*
Now we need ram
Damn 5k now...
Long Live Daft Punk ❤️💖💞
New thumbnail is way better
2:40 i thought i was the only one that thought da funk sounded "hip hop-y"
THOMMY AND MANNY 😭😭😭😭
Are you gonna go back to videos like this
