- Hey everyone. :) Got some stuff here. Hopefully, I can make some more footage soon. Get a little more in depth about the machines you haven't seen before. Bringing that roller back to life was a cool adventure. As I've said many times I love old Briggs engines. The rototiller is even older I believe, and possibly cooler yet. :) I do need to clean the carb though. :) It was a bit hit and miss. Ah, there are a few other things I need to show you all too. Anyway, hope you are all doing awesome. And sorry for any hardships you have had to go through.
Excellent Tom! Lots of interesting projects. Always look forward to seeing what you're up to with the old equipment and your garden.
Be well Man
Dan
Thank you sir :) There are SO many projections going on. And unlike the old days they actually lead to stuff cool like cucumbers and such. haha. I'll try to document it better.
Tom! Wonderful to hear from you buddy. I love your videos.
ahhh, thanks. :)
Glad to see some stuff still kicking!
haha, thanks man :) Yeah, some things are still kicking for sure.
Hey, Tom. Nice to hear from you.
Thanks. :) Nice to be heard.
Hell yeah, another video from Tom!!! Made my mediocre day a whole lot better!
haha, thank you sir. :) That may be my most realistic goal. :)
Been waiting forever for a new video! Hope things are good with you!
Thanks man. I'm glad that people are still interested in seeing my videos. Seriously, haha, about to be 16 years in... That's a few years.
4:54 I got the same wood splitter. needs a longer and heavier gauge tongue it will bend if towed on the road and the ram hits the back rack on an atv. split anything though.
Awesome man, thatnks for that info. It gets treated pretty gently, its my cousins. And he bought it new, paid a lot for it, so i try to take care of it when i'm using it. Definitely splits some shit though :)
i remember the first video 15+ years ago man time flies!! look forward to another 15 years
Ha! That's awesome man, thanks!
Good to hear from you Tom, been missin videos but glad your still kickin. Hopefully you can get back to making some more
Thank you! Yeah, I hope i can keep making some new videos too. :0
Bro we’ve been missing you, glad to see you back in action. I have a couple Wisconsin engines I’m getting rid of I thought I’d see if you wanted them. Im in Iowa
ah thanks man. :) Looks like Iowa is 1053 miles away. Which, technically the Bolens 1053 is powered by the Wisconsin TRA-10D engine, so... that's fair. But working at a job today, I realized the mileage from there would be further, Likely putting it into the Tecumsech powered models, and yeah, Thats a NO go. Those Tecumsehs really are junk at least over time. haha, but yeah, thats a bit far to travel for some cool engines. Please don't junk them, try to give them away for free on marketplace or something. They are worthy engines.
thank you, was watching your mercedes videos. Looks like you got 2 of them right now
Thanks for the comment! Got a bunch of Mercedes videos. Right now there are 4 Mercedes here. 71 220 diesel, 1978 300sd turbo, 84 300SD, 2006? 320E wagon 4matic. A 1974? 240SD just left last week. Automatic sadly.
Hell yea brother, been waiting on you to post a video
haha, yeah, more to come for sure. :)
🙏
surprise surprise a new video from tom. hope things are going well with you
Hey man. :) yeah... I'm really hoping i can get back to putting out videos pretty consistently. once a week at least would be nice.
Loong time since u been here🙋♂️
ain't that the truth. :)
No worries dude! I just picked up a 66 Rambler american wagon 500 bucks 31k miles, im at my Ozark place busy as all get out. Glad to see you posting!
Ahhh man.... I'm so envious. Growing up there was a, I think 64 rambler sedan in my driveway, and man, the look of that thing is so baked into my brain. I love wagons like crazy so that's even cooler. I know your busy, but if you get a chance could you shoot a minute or two footage going over it, showing the engine and all. So cool.
@@tommartyn Tom hit me at my mail my username all one word at g I cant upload here my bandwidth and phone both suck.
Good to see ya. Hope it's all getting better. Really wanting to see those old ATC videos!!!!
with any hope :) And nice to hear from you. :)
Awesome bud glad to see you 👍👍
Thanks man, as always glad to hear from you :)
Glad to see you're still around, got a bit worried when I checked back a while ago and all the videos were gone. Looking forward to new ones!
Thanks man. Don't know if you saw the last few videos, but I went through whats been happening in one of the last videos, possibly called Conversation With a Bolens.
🤘
Good to see you back. I’ve been watching your vids for almost 10 years 🤘🏻
Awesome man :) thanks for still watching. :)
Great to get an update from you. I like the woodstove and it is great to have a selection fo hardware for when you need something quick. I really like your Bolens line up
Thanks man the wood stove saved me who knows how much money in fuel oil this winter. And it's just a nice activity to light it, throw logs in, all that. Thanks man :) The bolens lineup makes a lot of random people stop in. Pretty cool.
Good to see you back on here man your videos are great!
Thanks man, I appreciate it!
Hey Tom good to see you .
Hey, nice to hear from you :)
Thank you for the update. Where do you sell the syrup. Looks great.
haha, hey. Sorry its just for hand outs to friends. Not for sale. I think the cost in propane to boil it down would be way more then what it could cost to sell it. especially since i burnt about 1/4 of the whole production. Really hard to Know its about to burn. Got to watch it really closely for the last hour or so.
Awsome to see an update man... been watching you for a long time wish to see some old romping videos again hope all is well for you
Thanks man. Definitely hope to get more up sometime. I think at the moment most of the videos I put up will just be of working on stuff, or showing stuff I worked on. Hope all is well for you too!
Hell yeah Tom's back!! That roller kicks ass man! Those Briggs never die. I think that has the horse shoe coil. Neat setup, I think they now make aftermarket coils for them. Or I could be wrong but I think you could run the ignition off a round kohler coil and a battery and bypass the horse shoe.
Hey man, never heard the Horse Shoe Coil term before, But could be used to describe this. LUCKILY, this coill seems to work perfect, and aftermarket ones are super cheap. :) But yeah, the round kohler coil, I am guessing you just mean a regular 12v coil that all car companies used for like 40 years or more :) Yeah, i love to stick with magnetos when ever i can. I don't want to be dragging a battery, switches, and ect into this self sufficent 5hp briggs life. :) I'm so glad i have a place, where i can get old basically scrap dropped off, and then bring it back to life like this, and actually use it, and give it a purpose again. I'm very lucky. :)
@@tommartyn I agree, magneto's are the way to go with this stuff. It just popped into my head this this ignition does have a name. Its called Magna-Matic. I think it was a good design but I don't think you see it as much on Briggs made after the 50's.
Just looked at a picture of the magneto in the manual, I forgot what it really looked like! It really reminds me of the early honda bike alternators. I guess magnetos probably do actually produce AC power come to think of it. But yeah, the part that goes on the crank shaft, with the windings mounted around it, very cool. :) You could probably run the power from the windings to a separate mounted coil somewhere. Would be neat to see how many watts that puts out too. I wonder if you could run other things off it. When wisconsin went to Solid State Ignition they had a huge stator under the flywheel, running to a little box, and then to a 12v coil. and i bet that thing made far more power then the coil alone used. I wonder if it could be harvested for AC power, run it through a regulator... :) Stuff to think about.
@@tommartyn Yeah I think you're right since it does have a magenetic field it would generate AC with a coil. I'm not an expert by any means but it makes sense. It does remind me of a Honda system like a CT70-90 etc. Briggs was ahead of the times with this. I think they could have done alot more with it. But I imagine they moved away from these to cut cost of course and make a smaller ignition system. I recall working on one of these engines and it really seemed like it made nice spark and started easy. I don't know if its just me but I was impressed.
It's good to see a new vid from you man..hope all is well
Hey man, things are what they are. :) Thanks for sticking around even when there aren't any videos.
@@tommartyn I've been watching since the beginning man..i will be sticking around for new vids.believe that👌
Hey nice to see a video up from you.. I actually just checked 3 days ago..had a feeling maybe you were going to upload a video .
heheh, spidey sense was tingling. Thanks for checking in every once in a while to see if i'm still doing it. I've got a lot of cool small engine stuf i'm pretty excited about lately, so hopefully there will be a bunch of videos.
🤘🤘
wooo!
Good stuff. That roller is fricken sweet man. Cell phone camara footage is mint man. Looks good to me. Take care my guy.
Thanks! Yeah, the roller was a good free gift for sure. Just used to to roll my driveway after getting new stone the other day. Works awesome.
Thanks for the update! Any chance you’d throw up any old videos? Specifically the trx125 into the ATC110 video. Always love the content.
Hey man. :) Awesome idea. :) I'll do that now :) I'm really surprised more people don't do it. The trx125 is literally crap. that engine in the trike frame is a million times more fun. I don't remember there being much to it except there was something about the wires in the wire harness not being long enough.... Which is basically a non problem. :)
I appreciate it. I have the engine sitting waiting to go into mine, however it is cursed with the bent shift arm so I need to address that prior to getting it in there. Big fan of all you do and again glad to see a new upload!
Man , been forever since i seen vids from y. Lot has changed alot since i last seen it
For sure man, it's pretty different.
Heyyyyyy!!
hahah! :) Hows it going?
Hey Tom glad to see you Still around dude I'm having a pretty ruff life ATM but that aside I actually found a old Briggs paperback manual ... I can send to ya when I get a Lil more straightened out ....
Thanks man, I appreciate it. Really sorry to hear things are shit at the moment. Hoping it all gets easier for you really soon. I'm glad I'm still around too. :)
🙏🙏🙏🙏🙏🙏
hey lookie, an upload from the one and only Tom Martyn! glad to see you still gettin on and goin on. hoping everything has been decent and is going well for ya. doesnt matter if or what ya post, just as long as you are doing what you need to do for you... but I do hope to see some more stuff from ya! take care!
Frank! :) :) Very good to hear from you sir! :) Things have been going honestly very well for me. I was always worried about where i would be at this point in my life. Kind of a constant feeling of hoplessness. But things are really going well. And thanks. I really hope to make videos more frequently. They may end up mostly being about old engines and stuff, but thats ok.
So glad to see an update Tom! I hope you're doing well. Will you re-upload the old romping and Bolens footage sometime in the future? Would love to see that stuff again! Take care man :)
Hey man, Yeah I'll get some of that back up soon hopefully. And We've been doing light duty versions of that again lately. Pretty damn fun.
@@tommartyn That's awesome man! I'm glad you're still enjoying these old beasts!
hey man! are you ever gonna put the older videos back up? i miss them lol
Thanks! I probably will soon. I like going back through them everyonce in a while and checking out the old stuff too. :)
@@tommartyn i look forward to it man, also, what field cars are still left?
Hey Tom, I don't remember if I commented when this first posted. I really like the clip of the TW200 and the Toyota crossing the rickety bridge. Love the old Briggs, too.
Tell me, what do you think about the Wisconsin-Robin EY27? I have one and have a chance to get a couple more, cheap. I think they're Japanese made.
Sorry for taking a while there to respond. yeah, the rickety bridge crossing clip looks more and more questionable every time i watch it. So i've never had the luck of having one of those Subaru/Fuji Heavy Industries small engines. I've never heard anything bad about them though. And yeah, If they are cheap they are probably a good way to go. I don't know if parts for them are as cheap as for the honda's, but they sold so damn many of them i'd imagine they are pretty available. I feel like i'd trust the subaru engines more then the kawasaki engines. Seems like the kawi's had a lot of problems over the years. Though i don't think subaru ever got into the larger 2 cylinder engines. Also, help all is well for you buddy. :) My buddy sean just did a timing chain and guides for Adam TW. Thing is super quiet and happy now! :) The XR80 just got reclaimed by its previous owner... :( But it was always enevitable. And we had so much fun with it. I think around 40 people rode a dirt bike here for the first time on that thing, and it always made people smile. Now his son will grow up with that to learn on. Kinda can't beat it. I've got the XR100. but that really isn't the same.
@@tommartyn Thanks for getting back to me. Yeah those little XRs are great bikes. I have a couple of them for basically parts bikes, and an XL70 that I put one of those Chinese 125s on. Amazing how much abuse it will take.
I have three more TW200s besides my first one, since I talked to you. I decided to buy a brand new one, then a couple weeks later I had a chance to buy a running 2007 TW, a "supposed to run" '87 and a spare engine, all for $1500 so I jumped on that. I'm thinking about putting an XT225 engine on the '87.
Wow, 1500 is a crazy good deal. And yeah, I hope you do the 225 swap! :) My buddy Adam was talking about maybe putting a 225 top end on his. I haven't looked into it, is it just a bigger bore or is it a longer stroke?
@@tommartyn It's a longer stroke. I think maybe the bore is slightly larger too, but not much. You can bore it to get up to 260cc or something like that. What's better though, is that the 225 has a six speed transmission that is still wide ratio like the TW, so you can lower the highway rpm while retaining the creeper 1st gear.
There's a guy on the TW200 forum who makes a spud shaft that allows it to work in the TW frame, and I have one of those and a 225 lower. Just got to get a jug and piston now. The TW head will work.
good one
Thanks :)
Next time I’m there can you run me over with that roller Tom
Yeah man, come on. You don't even have to ask. :)
Yeaaaa buddy
Welcome back tom can you upload the 1972 celica video back
Thanks man. Yep, I'll get them back up.
