When I was a kid about 15 years old a strength coach told me, "a house is only as good as its foundation." I have never ever forgotten it. That was some very sound advice that applies to many things in life.
"Also dont build a shack on top of a solid foundation, or else what's the point?" There is the idea of living within your means and the tiny house movement in relation to it and next to this is the rhetorical question essentially asking if you're building a shack, what's the point?
Chase Chewning When I was a teen I worked out in my bed room. I would place the bar between the backs of 2 chairs to get under it. After 3 months of lifting like this I gained 30 lbs. and my parents bought me a gym membership. Those were good times.
+ Dardan M because no one thinks of obvious things until someone does, like the wheel, native Americans hadn't even thought to domesticate and ride horses until Europeans arrived doing so.
I tore all of my major ligaments in my knee aged 21. I had twig legs back then. I've started squatting for a couple months now, and the physical benefits are life changing. I remember limping around at a snails pace with my head down, now I squat 315lbs with my head up and proud. Squats are truly the best exercise!
He didn't state a timeframe. He said at 21 he tore his knee ligaments. It might have been years between then and squatting 315. And Peter Caires, look into the new method out there for reattaching/regrowing ACL injuries using adult stem cells. It's 100 percent.
I read a quote from Paul Anderson many years ago where he said "In my life I've done thousands and thousands of squats, and I hated every one of them". That's dedication.
Not at the gyms by me. We have an old basement dungeon gym in the area. Chalk, racks, rust everywhere. I moved by another gym I went to had a ton of bodybuilders and that rack was always taken. I started lifting at a time where I was the only kid in the gym. The guys would tell me I'm training with them. Learned you always start with your compounds first. Rarely ever used machines or cables. Maybe here and there for a finishing movement.
SO true that when your squat gets stronger everything else gets stronger as well. Got my squat up to 315lbs and finally got my bench up to 225 lbs which i couldn't reach in almost a year.
+josef woodend I would agree with that strongly. I have moved away from the bench and towards the overhead press....It's been over eight months and I am waaaaay stronger. kinetic chain. Who knew.
+Joseph Cho The bench press is a compound exercise, thus it does not work the chest only, but the triceps, the shoulders, even the upper back if done correctly. The overhead press also works more muscles then just the shoulders and the triceps.
Bruuh i dunno...correct me if im wrong but something about a man talking to another man about his sexual desires (he wants a bigger orgasm) to another man seems gay. besides, whats that dumb shit have to do with this video???😞
in india we did squats from ancient time we called them baithaka, and we know that it's good good for lower body, in akhadas still wrestles do this around 2k to 3k per day

I love squatting. It forces you to grow at your lowest point. Plus the principles of doing a full range squat can make you become successful at anything.
Paul Anderson was my favorite at the squat. He dug a hole in his yard to stand in and left the barbell on the ground level, to make it easy to workout legs every other day by himself with weights up to 1,000 lbs. He loved the squat and was great at it.
David Torres I would say you get sore because of weak ligaments and tendons. That is directly related not doing high volume. In fact, Louie Simmons (the godfather of powerlifting) has his gym (Westside barbell) do 200 reps a day of triceps extension and/or leg curls to build the ligaments and tendons. They never have injuries and have one of the strongest gym's in the world.
jay Day Those people who complain about bad joints are the same people who you'll see overload the leg press with 9 plates and add an extra barbell loaded with 135lbs

I started squatting about 5 months ago and I’m at 285 for 7 reps on my last set. I tore both ACL’s and had major meniscus damage so I’m taking it slow. I do no let than 6 reps on my 4th set, and when I reach 10 reps I add 10 pounds on my 4th set

Anyone here actually squat every day? What kind of volume, % of 1rm, and long-term progression do you do and do you do them before or after your other lifts?
I squat everyday except Sunday, because my gym isn't open. Every day is a slight variation, I do front squats with a pause, without a pause, with and without a belt, back squats with and without a pause. Every day is a one rep max or near a max. I feel like this would not be sustainable without a high calorie intake, I personally eat 4000-5000 calories a day and I don't have any injuries or pain. My squat max has gone from 255 to 300, my deadlift has gone from 317 to 355, sumo deadlift from 355 to 405, and I pr'd my split jerk after not doing it in 2 months. I highly reccomend this program
Brian Chambers Is this kg or lb? I've been squatting daily for 3 weeks now and I'm hitting 330lb as a daily minimum, and 345-350lb more and more often, soon to catch up to my 370 lifetime best. I am chasing that 405lb and think it might be in reach in a few more weeks. I don't eat over 3000 cal typically.
Brian Chambers I am eating enough to maintain bodyweight at husky 205lb (was 170lb 2-2.5 years ago), getting fatter isn't going to help me much at this point, my lean bodyweight is pretty static (I am done with noob gains).
Squat is the most ancient exercise known to man. Since time immemorial wrestlers have been doing squats not just for competitions but for other tasks like serving in the royal armies or as bodyguards for the king and the royal family. The foundation of wrestling is Squat. Ancient civilizations like Babylonian, Egyptian, Iranian, Indian and Chinese have all had and still have squats as the basis for wrestling and physical education. 20th century's greatest wrestler Gama Pahelwan also known as the 'Great Gama' of India used to do 5000 squats a day for his training.

ATG gains How can you say that squat or dead lift is more functional than the other? If any of you are like me I say RESPECT THE LIFT BECAUSE IT WONT RESPECT YOU!
Jon Wichman well I work a hard labor job and in my experience deadlift has helped me the most but it is also proven to be more functional. No where did i say the squat isn't beneficial.
If you weigh 350lbs, lifting your body weight isn't impressive. Cyr has a gut like he is preparing for winter hibernation, and he has a double chin. His body shape is a circle. If Cyr went to the same body fat as Sandow, the playing field would be even and Cyr would lose significant strength.
typedeaf Oh Wahhhhhhhh! Cyr was the strongest man of his day and Sandow tried everything to say he wasn't. I could careless about his shape anymore than I do Brian Shaw.
And I am telling you that comparing a fat mans lifts to a skinny mans lifts isn't an equal comparison. Everyone knows that when you bulk you gain strength, and when you cut, you lose it. So strength is relative to size, and specifically body fat.
typedeaf I'm telling you that Sandow tried to make the world think he was stronger than Cyr... sheer strength, nothing to do with size relatiivity. He was stupid and egotistical.
Squat everyday? Oh hell no. That'll kill my motivation for gym in 3 days. And thank God I came from a country where we bike from point to point so my legs r thick af even when I kept skipping leg day for the past of 20 months.
+Commander Erik People who don't squat or train legs heavy don't have properly thick legs unless they're fat. Only compared to people who don't squat.Thinking that bike rides gives you thick legs is like thinking unweighted push-ups give you a massive chest or arms. It just won't happen. Resistance is needed, not just volume. That being said, you may have thick enough legs for an aesthetic look, because it's easy to get kind of a pear-shaped look like powerlifters if you focus heavily on the squat. That does not mean your legs are thick in the grand scheme of things.
Squats as an exercise dates back to essentially every culture. Before cars and trucks, people have to pick up and carry heavy loads. Modern society somewhat forgotten that humans used to move a lot more than we do now.
When I was a kid about 15 years old a strength coach told me, "a house is only as good as its foundation." I have never ever forgotten it. That was some very sound advice that applies to many things in life.

So you relentlessly train your core like a gymnast?
So you became a real estate agent?
Yep 😉
Thank God we invented racks! I can't imagine tying to drop and catch 300+ pounds on my back and go immediately into a squat. Great video!

My favorite exercise The Squat. It doesn't just build muscle it builds character.
I wonder does that improve your handstand
The squat exercise is like the ultimate workout. Works the whole core. Definitely great for the legs!
I tried this program ( squat everyday) and it's pure agony physically and mentally, but rewarding...

Anthony Smith Dude the deadlift is more functional then the squat more muscles are being worked look it up man it isn't new. Deadlift is king!
I agree then in your specific case, it would be more beneficial and functional
6:20 the magazine cover featured a woman squatting with her heels lifting up from the ground
0:55 Mutant baby?
Who's the guy in the middle at 7:08???
Its easier to wear pants so....
Fascinating video, thanks!
Louie Cyr made Sandow cry like a baby.
yup I think Cyr challenged Sandow
Thanks for sharing, I Love it!
Squat everyday? Oh hell no. That'll kill my motivation for gym in 3 days. And thank God I came from a country where we bike from point to point so my legs r thick af even when I kept skipping leg day for the past of 20 months.
Haha
+Commander Erik People who don't squat or train legs heavy don't have properly thick legs unless they're fat. Only compared to people who don't squat.Thinking that bike rides gives you thick legs is like thinking unweighted push-ups give you a massive chest or arms. It just won't happen. Resistance is needed, not just volume.
That being said, you may have thick enough legs for an aesthetic look, because it's easy to get kind of a pear-shaped look like powerlifters if you focus heavily on the squat. That does not mean your legs are thick in the grand scheme of things.
+perman07 you don't have to squat to have big legs, yes it would speed up the process but it's not necessary
Squats as an exercise dates back to essentially every culture. Before cars and trucks, people have to pick up and carry heavy loads. Modern society somewhat forgotten that humans used to move a lot more than we do now.
