A friend of mine told me about Steve Hughes right at the peak of an awful mental breakdown I had at the end of 2022. His humour and stories regarding his personal experiences with having a mental breakdown kept me going through that tough time. One of my favourite comedians for that.

Once saw Steve Hughes in the Slade Rooms in Wolverhampton. It was a wild ride.
Jesus was supposed to be a carpenter but couldn't pull a nail out to save his life!
In fairness he would've had to use the nail bar with his teeth, and unless he was reeeeallly double jointed he wasn't pulling that out of his loin cloth with ease anyway.
In ancient times, wise people probably said things like "pain doesn't need to be suffering" to those who needed spiritual support.

Saw you down at the Factory Theatre years back and some of your material wasn't registering with the audience (rant about energy efficient light bulbs) but it was spot on and ahead of its time. Also saw you looking jet-lagged in the Townie one night with your suitcase at your feet and you gave me that "mate, I'm fucking tired please don't talk to me" look and I obliged.

Listened to about 10 hours of you in the last month, and i've become very curious about how you now feel about the thing above and beyond all things, God.
Once you believe in supernatural phenomena, aberrations of reality not yet able to be accurately measured, simulated, replicated or sometimes even postulated, then the thing beyond all things starts to make sense, combine that with the bible accurately laying out the downfall of an advanced future society and an eventual global war between people, those still in the image of their creator, and those that have the "mark of the beast", who act immoral and defile their bodies, and it really starts to seem like Christ was real as a physical manifestion, energetic projection in human form, of this thing beyond things, God.
Ahhh, but the concept of atheism is not that "(g/G)od doesn't exist"... only that the evidence of God or a god is insufficient to warrant a belief in him/her/it/shim/they/whatever. It simply means "without god," meaning that our existence is not dependent on a supernatural autonomous being or beings; at least, not until there's sufficient evidence; and if there ever DOES become evidence of a god, that god will sure have a lot of explaining to do for the immoral mess it has created.
As an atheist I'm very surprised. A heavy metal guy who makes pro-gay jokes is a huge Believer?

Where in this did you get that he was a huge believer? He may or may not be, but the joke is pointing out the irony of outspoken atheists gesturing at "science" who don't actually understand the science and approach it like a religion.

The funny part is that religious people will use science to prove a point, but only if it suits their narrative. Science never denied god, it simply asks for some evidence.

An atheist wouldn't say that tbh, sounds more like an edge lord. The correct response would be "'there's no evidence for a god or gods". It's not up to atheists to disprove a religious persons positive claims for a deity. They make the claim they are the one burdened with proving their claim
