  • Yes, you read that number right. The world's most expensive Civic just got the best audio setup you can imagine. I sent the car up to Sound In Motion all the way up in Boston to get it all done the right way. This is the first part of the series where we go through the subwoofer build.

    While I am not in any way a "civic" guy, I absolutely love this series! In my humble opinion, you are either a car guy or you are not. Car guys like cars - anything to do with them. That being said, You dont owe us an explanation (you really dont owe us anything) as we are here because we love cars and enjoy what you do and how you do it! I would not worry too much about those who judge what you do with your time, business and money. Negativity simply isnt worth it. Thank you for all the effort and time you put into creating content that actually helps others who do not have the time to invest in researching everything. For many of us, making time to do the things we enjoy is a real struggle and having someone that takes some of the tedious side of things out of it affords many of us more time to do what we like to do rather than what we are obligated to do.

    I've been in and around the car audio scene since the 90's. I was absolutely hooked the first time I felt my heart skip a beat. I've designed, built, installed, and tuned more systems than I can count. I'm a bit OCD and attention to detail is #1. While there is without a doubt value in the equipment used on this build (~$12k), the materials, the fit, and the finish are sub-par for $13k. I'm just not seeing work worthy of $475/hr. There are faster ways to build more efficient and less costly enclosures. A sound off video doesn't compare but without it we're left to wonder... What about tuning? Distortion metering? Gain levels? SPL? How was the box tuned? In the end your happiness is all that matters. Love the content!

    • @joeshaft
      @joeshaft 3 года назад +3

      less than sub par. woeful for dropping that amount of money on it. lovely 3 ways and the install is so poor. all the people in the comments with no idea and just drooling because he said it cost 25k. cheapo 14 gauge cable into the "subs" and I actually laughed about his "thundering bass comment" . Not from those subs fella. Also one amp looks like doing everything so there's definitely not a lot of power for the system at all. Those door builds and kick builds were just the worst. I can't believe how bad they were, and even more criminal for 25k. They saw him coming and took him for a mug. They're laughing all the way to the bank. The sub box construction was nicely done and thats about it. Compare this to a decent installer like PS Sound, or Soundman or Mark at Caraudiofabrication, miles apart in quality of install. painful to watch this garbage, and then see all the
      sycophants in the comments with their tongues up his arse. I'd love to see the state of the tuning that this guy would even attempt after it if this is their level of install. garbage.

    I just upgraded radio, 4 speakers, got a sweet subwoofer box and dynamat and it quickly added upto $3000aud in my $5k car. When you do it gradually you think its cheap but when you add it up I can see how quickly it adds up.
    To start off with I had a 10 inch sub, then went to a slim 12 inch but quickly wasnt enough, so went to a dual 12 inch ported box. It start of simple but becomes complicated, my radio had no RCA output so I changed to pioneer, then the car rattled from the bass so I went all out with dynamat, then I had no easy way to turn bass down so I added a bass knob and volt meter, which means new RCA's, the wire I needed to be really flexable and car audio specific power wire aint cheap, also I went from 12 gauge, to 8 gauge then 3rd wire upgrade I went to 4 guage which my amp neeeds. I pulled door panels off maybe 10 times until every rattle was gone which wasnt good for the plastic.
    I could stop but I still have cheap pioneer speakers with no amplification, so technically I could easily match the price of the car by changing to premium speakers, with amplification. I get bad voltage drop so change to a larger more efficient amp and upgrade alternator and add a second battery. This would easily take it upto $5000 just for a basic stereo which is reliable and strong, but nothing impressive at all in terms of SPL or sound quality.

So I wanted to have a car that sounded almost as good without the budget he spent. I used JL slash amplifier fiberglass W3 enclosure that I built and JL XR seps. I realized car audio wasn’t going to be a career so I switched to banking. Love what your doing with the civic. 24 G’s for this build? Looks like more of the build went towards the shop then the car.

    I personally like the sound of Audison better, but Mosconi is great too. Great build!

    SIM is located less than half a mile from where I was born. Almost a mile away from one of the loudest and hardest hitting cars I have ever heard. It was an 85 Civic DX hatchback(the low one). Plate #ALLMTX. I still remember the build in that tiny two-seater.

    Omg!! This is amazing and reminds me of my IASCA days. Difference being mine was fibreglassed into the wheel well on my SiR. Making me want to put it all back in, wonder how well it will handle on the road course with full audio. LOL

    I have an ex model of this model and just did a B16b type r swap, and you just did my dream sound system. I love the stealth. A question I have though is why didn’t you guys do the 6x9 speakers that go in the rear deck?
