I have 3 blind birds. They are wonderful birds, they just require warning before touching them in order to be comfortable. :)
I always start with voice commands- usually “beak” which tells them when I’m about to touch their beak. They also don’t generally do well with other birds, because other birds usually don’t understand they can’t see, and spook them easily

Aww what a little cutie. Adopting pets with any defects or disabilities is great. If a person has enough money to provide the health care and vet appointments then they are awesome addition to the family and usually very loving. My budgie boy has had a terrible case of scaly-face mites and it left his feet deformed - he is missing claws and those he has are not bend right. The previous owner didn't care and got rid of him as soon as his condition became too apparent.
He has a bit of a trouble climbing or holding onto some things but otherwise he is doing alright now, all mite free and happy. We just have to make sure he cannot slide down or fall behind any furniture because he cannot climb back up.
    EDIT: love the budgie blanket!!!

especially from a young age, even if you lose one of your senses, overtime the mind instinctively contributes concentration and focus to the other senses that you still have making it possible to adjust, especially when your born without the senses entirely. Like hearing, sniffing, taste, touch, and other background processing in the mind. Its not too late for this bird to visualize the world around him, and enjoy it. Thank you for adopting this cockatiel!!
It breaks my heart to see how many special needs birds are just left alone.
I personally jumped at the chance to adopt a one eyed Budgie, because I knew no one else would take him.
He had an incident with his mother as a very young chick where she pecked his eye - There's no eye left, but the lining of the eye socket still produces fluid.
Avian vet and I both decided that surgery to remove the lining is way too risky for such a small bird, so for the rest of my little birdy loves life, I need to bathe his eye area in saline solution twice a week to prevent infections.
It's a huge commitment, but one I'm willing to do if it means he gets a happy life.

The effort you have put in, with the video angles, the sounds, the slow shots, the information, absolutely fantastic, it was pure organically done and so cinematic. It is incredible what you are doing, I watched the whole video and I will sleep in peace knowing you exist who blesses such birds, the trust they have in you is clearly seen, you are truly blessed and thank you so much for giving such souls as big as ours as important as us a chance to live a amazing life

I had a kestrel that was blind in his right eye. He was a remarkably good flyer despite this. Sometimes when flying him, he would come in too fast on to the glove and smack into it. I don't think he realized how close he was. Hard to judge distance with one eye. His handicap had caused serious problems with trying to catch prey. I ended up keeping him for about 10 years until he passed away. I'll never forget him, he was the sweetest bird, kestrels are just oversized meat eating parakeets imo lol. He hung out with my cockatiel too, she liked him but the Kestrel didn't care for her lol. He was a bird of prey but since they were about the same size, he didn't mess with her.

Thanks for rescuing her. As she’s originally an Australian 🇦🇺 species, what about Sheila (Aussie slang for girl / woman) or from the Harry Potter theme what about Lily - Harry’s mother’s first name.
I too can’t resist a rescue. I have several. A white budgie called Sirius who can’t hold his head up properly - vet says a nerve injury - pet shop would have sent him back to breeder - he’s very happy and well cared for and now has a friend called Dumbledore. Regulus also white, whose leg ring was far too tight, we bought him, got the vet to remove it and treated the wounds, he’s very “zen” a calm quiet boy. A small green fellow whose cage mates had just been sold, he was very distressed calling for them and throwing himself at the glass front of the cage, we bought him and now he has friends again and is called Dobby. Luna was bleeding to death from a blood feather cut through as someone clipped his wings, he was shivering in the corner of a cage, we thought he was doomed but with budgie intensive care he survived. Others came to us because we couldn’t leave them suffering from severe mite infections. We have a bird room and a lot of happy birds who seem to think my bum is a great perch when I’m bent down cleaning their cages!

I remember my very first pair of birds. One of them had "abnormal" feet. The other one would bully him for it so I had to give it away. I kept the one with the messed up feet because I thought it made him unique in a way. After he died I then wanted to take care of birds who had some type of disability.
