I'll be honest, as a young man with depression and a history with alcoholism (10 months sober now and no bad thoughts) this hit a little too close home. Thank you and Hatty for doing these awesome models and your efforts on educating about these issues. Stay safe boys, we're all gonna make it, pinky promise!
Thanks so much for making this video. Im a therapist in essex and we have some of the worst rates of men ending their lives in the country. It really is so important that men destigmatise talking about how they feel and getting the help they need. Thanks again
Being a single father is rough, co-parenting is rough... the weeks without my kids are rougher still. I got into Warhammer to occupy my time in the evenings after work while the kids are gone and have been watching your channel for around 5 years now. Glad you got a good reaction from your littles with the new facial hair. My youngest gets upset when I trim my beard, I haven't seen my face going on 15 years.
Hey Guy, thanks for raising these issues. Recovering alcoholic, attempted ending my own life this time last year. Psychiatric hospital, medication, relapses, but hey, it's a year later, still here. Keep up the good work my friend, love your work as a fellow Essex lad :)
I have suffered from depression long time and have been open about it. Offline and online at various occasions. Once I got a reply on one of those occasions from someone thanking me for talking about it because it helped them. Men, we need to talk. About those things. Talking helps. Even it's only there to show you: you're not alone! So thanks Guy for putting this out there and make it seen. Cheers.
I’m homeless and watching painting minis like your videos actually helps me keep some hope as I’m a very creative person who love painting like this and this is my only outlet for it as I can’t afford any of it
I really love how the mini painting sphere has embraced Movember. There are a lot fewer socially acceptable hobbies involving creativity, self-expression, and quiet reflection for men than women. It's important to have that sort of space in your life. Look after yourselves, lads ❤️
White Scars, Iron Hands, and the Raven Guard definitely deserve more love. They're all such extremely cool and unique chapters. Im hoping the Khan himself and Corax will return from their warp escapades eventually.
Guy, I really appreciate how open and REAL you are about things while diving into toys and allowing yourself and all of us to escape from the darkness of real life to enjoy some communal crafting, painting, hobbying, and nerdy joy. COVID was a dark time, and definitely triggered the depression that I’ve always struggled to keep just barely at bay. Finding Warhammer, painting, your channel and a few others like Black Magic Craft and Goobertown Hobbies helped me find a creative, quiet space where I could get some solace. Rock on! 🤘
It really feels like Guy recognises his position of relative privilege and uses it to help a lot of people, and he doesn’t try to present himself as a saint. He’s a good man from what I can see
Great work for a great cause. Thinking back to 2020 when I first watched your Speed painting Ultramarines video, which inspired me to think maybe I can try this painting thing for myself rather than just watching other people do it. Thanks again.
It's nice to hear someone express genuine concerns and care for mens mental health awareness. Thank you ,Guy. I also feel like the Khan would do the same for his sons. He would want them to be at their best to be the fastest they can be.
Now that’s a small world: one of my favourite exo planet podcasters being mentioned on my favourite mini-painting RUclips channel. Someone please tell me the odds!
Very happy my friend Dan recommended your channel for when I started collecting Warhammer models in September/October. Thank you for doing a charity model marine for Movember. Stay strong mates, I know it’s cliche but you’re not alone. Much love from across the pond.
Shweet! Absolutely huge White SCARS fan, so it's awesome to finally see one painted up on this channel, and for a fantastic cause no less. Very nice work on the Khan there, looks damn good!
I suffer from major depression disorder. I’m a suicide survivor. I do therapy, take my medication and I am still here! No one should struggle alone talk about your feelings, go to therapy. Do the work you can get through dark times. Also to quote Scott hall “bad times don’t last but bad guys do.” Much love to all.
What do you do when you've done a lot of therapy, tried a lot of meds, rang every helpline etc and nothing works? I rang the Mind info line and told them everything I've tried and asked them what next and they had no advice for me, just feel completely hopeless.
Guy, I am currently painting up my Leagues of Votann that I got last year for Christmas while I listen to your videos. I don't do a lot of painting over the course of a year, I usually just do it when I need to relax. And this time's no different. I've recently started on a new medication to help with my depression, and it's caused some distressing side-effects for me while I'm at work. I can tell you with certainty that the videos you upload to RUclips of yourself painting a toy (8:30) do help to a degree with this process of mine. Your videos are so, SO relaxing. If I couldn't listen to your videos while I painted, I think the next best thing would be some slow, night time jazz. Point being, I hope that you value yourself and these videos you make as much as I do.
Cheers for a positive video (not that you arent normally positive). Just a big hug for dads that need it. Consequence and circumstance are all subjective, don't neglect youself. reach out for help if you need it.
As someone that has struggled with mental health issues, I am grateful of this channel, it has helped me in some of the darkest moments in my life. Thank you for everything Guy.
Guy looks exactly like my brother. It's always funny to see guys face talking with a British accent, because me and my brother are from Alabama, so u can imagine how we talk... lol. Love the content. Thanks guy!
Gute Arbeit !
Ending the video on such a positive note after tackling the why of Movember (very professionally, mind!) was a great choice - chuckled at the twins' reactions to the "Magnum Pork-Pie" look. Thank you for using your reach for such a good cause!
Oh Guy. I've been strictly building for models for like two months now and the sheer amount of mould lines I've scraped with the back of my xacto is insane. Those skulls though? I feel your pain.
Thank you for taking part in this cause. As someone who suffers from mental health issues, it means so much to hear that other men deal with it and that people from all over the world truly do care. Beautiful work as always, Guy! Rockin 'stache, bro!!!🤘
I suffer more with depression than anxiety. While I was getting the christmas decisions down, I found my oldest brother's GW and started painting many years ago, which helped loads
While I don't mess around with Warhammer stuff, painting miniatures is my stress reliever. I do Battletech and use the time painting to relax and recover from crazy days at work. Working in a jail can make for some dark moments in life. Recently, things were going wrong at work that kept me from being able to actually work and it was taking me to a dark place because I could not provide for my family properly. No one asks a man how their mental health is. They always ask how they are and if a man shows weakness, we are thought of as defective and weak. We have to maintain an aura that betrays what is really going on inside. Painting, playing games, watching others paint...these help with the darkness and brings me back to the light. Fortunately, the issues at work have been resolved, I am back working, however, those dark thoughts still haunt me from time to time. I still paint, every day, even if for just a few minutes. I am glad that you are doing things for men's mental health. Not enough is truly said or done because, as I mentioned, it makes us seem weak, fragile and defective....things that women and other men see as failures. The man who maintains and pushes forward is stronger than you can imagine. Thank you for doing your part!
Fantastic video as always Guy and such an important topic. By the way for removing oil/enamel washes I highly recommend makeup sponges. I found that cotton buds leave fibers on the model and they're generally a pain to use. Makeup sponges can also be cut into useful shapes.
Love the old school single model style once again. That Blood Angel Captain is pretttttty nifty. Maybe a you vs Hattie (sp? so sorry!) and then auction them????? Please???? I'd be easily convinced to drive prices up. You were one of the first painting channels I followed and I'll always support your stuff, Guy. Love you and your channel!
I'm totally gonna loot that spongestick idea. Also: Important subject you're tackling there, I'm a 38 yo father of three, and Gork dammit there are days when the answer to the question "How do you tackle all this stuff?" is just "I don't, sometimes I just don't because I can't." I'm in therapy for about 2 years now and it's helped me enormously, so did going to the gym. Hang in there ladz, you got it. Embody your inner Ork, yoo'z neva beaten, always anuva chance for a propa scrap out dere!
As someone suffering from Dysthymia (persistent depressive disorder) and Asperger syndrome I fully support that society is speaking more open about mental health issues in men. Sadly the "real men don't cry" attitude is still strong with most people, that definitly needs to change! The model itself looks nice, just dont like White Scars. But probably an awesome model to kitbash a proper and good looking Inquisitor Coteaz^^
guy i been watching your tube for a long time. aside for your content being amazing , must say your one of the most kindest genuine placid guys iv ever seen online, your kids seem to have a great dad, much respect to you and i truly wish you the best in life,
I mean this in the kindest, sweetest way but guy with a moustache looks like someone I would run into in the IT department of a semi-large corporate firm
It's a very easy mistake to think painting white means starting from a white base coat. Much like you don't paint a model JUST the deepest black and nothing else, you need to start at Less White and build up to a white highlight. Really love the way the sponges created the almost textured effect on the armor here. Very nice.
I am a fan of the White Scars (novels, general aesthetic and tabletop play-style), but as always wanted to do my own thing with Space Marine-side of the 3rd Edition 40k box I bought twenty years ago, so my bifurcated Dark Angel-ish green and orange boys with their yellow helmets and dark brass aquilas were born. They hail from a warm rainforested world so not as many bikes and a more South American/Amazon Jungle-kinda vibe, but everything else is pretty much the same. I feel a bit conflicted. I bought a couple of those Chibi-style Space Marine figures to paint over in my scheme. (You know, for the planet's Rio-style Carnival parades--every chapter of marines needs a mascot.) So I got a White Scar and a Tome Keeper marine off of ebay after the price on the blank, Sprue-gray marine went through the roof, figuring they would be easiest to paint over, but now I kinda don't want too except to grimdark them up a bit. Well... maybe I'll still paint over the Tome Keeper. 😉
I have to say that the mustache started out looking very biker-guy from the Village People there for a minute, but you pulled it out in the end. Cheers!
in amongst all the lovely comments just to say i'd stick to proper artists solvents for diluting oil washes, i use them a lot and i discovered early on straight 'white spirit' that stinks can damage the base coat even through varnish and it'll break up and slide off, and might be why his leg fell off. the fancy stuff still has a hint of that smell so you can still sniff it all you like, just like in art class! shit, just me..?
I find 2:3 mix of oil to spirits does well for an oil wash. I am also going to look at using a makeup blending egg for removing excess oil paint when it has started to dry :)
Nice video to highlight a great cause, one often ignored and or downplayed.. Awareness is the first step so here is hoping it helps/pushes someone to help. Enjoy Blasphemous great game and it has a sequel if ya want more. Now I realize surprised I have not seen any mini's close to it, well maybe a few things from the recent Trench Crusade stuff.
Thank you for this both the model from one of my favorite SM chapters, and the great cause! I'm a woman and am excessively left-wing, and even I recognize that claiming men do not have societal issues that need addressing just inevitably leaves nowhere for a lot of men to go but the man-o-sphere and its sexist, racist, and capitalistic grifters
Wonderful video Guy, thank you for helping to raise awareness... If I may ask, how is it with your living situation? You mentioned some issues with your landlord and a desire to get your own place some videos ago.
If you have a mould line like that one on the power pack, where there isn't much detail but you will struggle to get your knife to all of it. Instead of damaging the part with your blade, simply put some plastic glue on it using something thin and firm that's not plastic. The glue should dissolve the edge and you can then push any remaining bits down to get a smooth edge.
8:35 Just to share a bit of a personal story too. I've been out of a job for a pretty long while, but luckily, I am not the type to sit still. So I've been keeping busy. And it isn't like I am going to be out of a house or food on the table. But, there are still some part of some days when that looming dread will rear its head. And I think it took me a long time to realize what I felt may be depression, anxiety, whatever. It just didn't occur to be that was an option.
Great video! I've suffered with depression and anxiety my entire adult life and things often feel hopeless. Despite people saying help is out there its actually incredibly hard to get the help you need, I still haven't found anything that helps. Where did you get the super thin files from? Been looking for something similar. And what the hell was that dinner?!
kind of a shame you posted this video at the end of the donation drive/month & not 11/1😕. semantically, i thought the idea is to keep the stache / not shave for all of november. but more importantly, a lot of people (such as myself) get their paychecks 1st of the month, and would've been able to give more without it chipping into their christmas budget.
Thank you so much for painting a model for Movember Marines Guy!
Well done on 10 months! I’m a ex heroin addict with almost 11 years clean and I still work at it most day! Keep it up dude
well done lads :)
Youre doing great
Imagine being guy and having Ciaphas fucking Cain commenting on your video
dead ass tho congrats on the sobriety.
Sometimes when I jokingly say “Painting the Tiny plastic men keeps the depression away.” Sometimes it doesn’t feel like I’m joking.
Goddamn I felt that
Thanks so much for making this video. Im a therapist in essex and we have some of the worst rates of men ending their lives in the country. It really is so important that men destigmatise talking about how they feel and getting the help they need.
Thanks again

Nessa looked like she was one of the data brokers being discussed in the ad spot. Too guilty, too suspicious. Excellent video!
Nessa would never. She's a good girl!
Data borker?
Beautiful video mate. I've struggled in the past with mental health issues myself and it's so nice to see people champion these causes. ❤
White Scar for charity? Missed opportunity for a pun:
Cause'arro Khan
coarse hair-o khan

16:13 "What was noise?"
"The sound of progress, my friend."

Dude, everything u have to go through is meant to lead to something greater. We all were for eternity bound together by Love throgh space and time.
It really feels like Guy recognises his position of relative privilege and uses it to help a lot of people, and he doesn’t try to present himself as a saint. He’s a good man from what I can see

Suffering from depression myself, I'll just type an ❤! Stay safe and greetings from germany!
Thanks for helping out such an important cause and speaking openly about it.
Magnum P.I.? More like Ned Flanders 😂
OMS! They're using contractions! How time flies
Guy is just one of the most wholesome humans on the planet
I'm absolutely not, but thanks! Haha
@MidwinterMinis no, seriously, you only make videos which make others happy and raise alot money for charity too!
Agreed
Now that’s a small world: one of my favourite exo planet podcasters being mentioned on my favourite mini-painting RUclips channel.
Someone please tell me the odds!
almost exactly my HH whitescars recipe, except I airbrushed it instead of sponging. your sponging gave a fantastic effect!
Thank you for raising awarness Guy. Sadly a problem alot of people dont want to hear about.
With only the moustache you look like Peter from Deadpool 😂😂😂. Sick ‘tache though
ik right
Very happy my friend Dan recommended your channel for when I started collecting Warhammer models in September/October. Thank you for doing a charity model marine for Movember. Stay strong mates, I know it’s cliche but you’re not alone. Much love from across the pond.

Lovely video for a worthy cause. If you play with oils again, foam eyeshadow applicators work better than cotton swabs.
Guy looks exactly like my brother. It's always funny to see guys face talking with a British accent, because me and my brother are from Alabama, so u can imagine how we talk... lol. Love the content. Thanks guy!

@Guy Have Fun translating it with Google. :D
Guy never listen to the people bringing you down in the comments what you're doing is amazing and people really look up to you
For the Khan and the Emperor.
Soulblight Grey Shade is excellent for painting White Scars over White Primer (quick and easy).
Ending the video on such a positive note after tackling the why of Movember (very professionally, mind!) was a great choice - chuckled at the twins' reactions to the "Magnum Pork-Pie" look. Thank you for using your reach for such a good cause!
Another belter Guy!!
Salutations from Belfast Northern Ireland 🇬🇧
Guy is such a nice person loved meeting him a while ago and the causes you support just lovely.
Oh Guy. I've been strictly building for models for like two months now and the sheer amount of mould lines I've scraped with the back of my xacto is insane. Those skulls though? I feel your pain.
Just imagining Hatty colour grading footage of her colour grading... Woah... Trippy...
Great video and incredible mini👍👍👍
Greetings from Chile 🇨🇱
Thank you for taking part in this cause. As someone who suffers from mental health issues, it means so much to hear that other men deal with it and that people from all over the world truly do care. Beautiful work as always, Guy!
Rockin 'stache, bro!!!🤘
I suffer more with depression than anxiety. While I was getting the christmas decisions down, I found my oldest brother's GW and started painting many years ago, which helped loads
One of ur best minis tbh!

The man who maintains and pushes forward is stronger than you can imagine. Thank you for doing your part!
Using the putty to add facial hair on that mini head worked really well! It looked totally sculpted and fit the theme perfectly.
Fantastic video as always Guy and such an important topic. By the way for removing oil/enamel washes I highly recommend makeup sponges. I found that cotton buds leave fibers on the model and they're generally a pain to use. Makeup sponges can also be cut into useful shapes.
Watching to see how you do the white because this is how I want my World Eaters to look
Those oil washes really makes the final miniature look Blanche-esque.
Moustache surprisingly good. Keep it for a few months!
Guy if we’re all being honest, as much as we love your huge projects, I’m sure most of your fans would watch anything you put out :))
Wow looking forward for the collab with HfH, love both of you!
But probably an awesome model to kitbash a proper and good looking Inquisitor Coteaz^^
really enjoyed this video of showing the day along with the painting. Neat idea
guy i been watching your tube for a long time. aside for your content being amazing , must say your one of the most kindest genuine placid guys iv ever seen online, your kids seem to have a great dad,
much respect to you and i truly wish you the best in life,
Strong Ned Flanders look at the end there sir!
That TTcombat red paint is really vibrant and fun!
I mean this in the kindest, sweetest way but guy with a moustache looks like someone I would run into in the IT department of a semi-large corporate firm
Love the video by the way could you pls show off you ork army like you did with your necrons I really like your death skull scheme on them.
great video Guy, mental health issues are 100% real, I struggle every day, and finding someone to listen is hard.
Really Channelling those dad vibes with that mucstash
I have to say that the mustache started out looking very biker-guy from the Village People there for a minute, but you pulled it out in the end. Cheers!
This guy opened up about his family because of a month this is a great man here
in amongst all the lovely comments just to say i'd stick to proper artists solvents for diluting oil washes, i use them a lot and i discovered early on straight 'white spirit' that stinks can damage the base coat even through varnish and it'll break up and slide off, and might be why his leg fell off.
the fancy stuff still has a hint of that smell so you can still sniff it all you like, just like in art class! shit, just me..?
Great fun video, also nice to know that Hattie is part of midwinter.
I find 2:3 mix of oil to spirits does well for an oil wash. I am also going to look at using a makeup blending egg for removing excess oil paint when it has started to dry :)
$45... for one sprue of plastic? Uh huh. That was plastic, mind you.
Well done on supporting Movember!
GUY SUDDENLY TURNED INTO NED FLANDERS?
All jokes aside, great video, you're awesome!
12:27 timestamp for when Ness sees a small fluffy dog. Very important.
Speaks volumes that this is the first time I'm hearing about movember
Nice video to highlight a great cause, one often ignored and or downplayed.. Awareness is the first step so here is hoping it helps/pushes someone to help.
Enjoy Blasphemous great game and it has a sequel if ya want more. Now I realize surprised I have not seen any mini's close to it, well maybe a few things from the recent Trench Crusade stuff.
I love my White Scars. I use oil as well to make em nice and grungy.
Makeup smudge tools and glasses cleaning cloths are a great alternative to cottonbuds for removing the oil wash, and don't leave wispies.
Great tip!

Oh wait, looks like you just did that. 😅
"Magnum pork pie" the self burn, epic.
not gonna lie, going by the title, i was excited to see guy do a howtobasic take on minipainting.
this is better.
Brilliant details.
Fantastic vid. ❤❤❤❤
Thanks Guy, really struggling at the minute, think it’s time to find help

And I think it took me a long time to realize what I felt may be depression, anxiety, whatever. It just didn't occur to be that was an option.
I painted a white scars kill team a few months ago but I’m gonna go back and do it with a similar scheme to this one absolutely love it.

Magnum pork pig got a laugh out of me 😂
Super cool seeing your filming setup, what focal length do you use for the painting shots?
The Keshig approve of this action.
I love this video, keep it up!
