- It occurred to me today that I had not written up a functional startup procedure for the FlyByWire A320 in the past - please find a link below to go through this video as I walk through the checklist!

I've come to prefer your delivery over most others.
I'll never be an expert. I would need a spare life to do so.
Having your soft voice in the background really does help me, so I just wanted to thank you.
I've been a music teacher for several decades and understand the importance of both voice and information.
You provide a great healthy dollop of both.
Big thank yous,
Barty
Cheers - thanks for the nice words! :)
Just Awesome! Thank you for setting me straight on what needs to be done.
*FYI: Your FBW Checklist does not have the MCDU>PERF>TRANS ALT of 6000 on it (Page 3). And: PWS to On, after ENG Section (Page 4). Plus: Arm Auto Brakes to Max at the end (Page 4)
I'll review it soon and update it :) The FBW has improved a lot since I first wrote it.
Thanks again, Jon!
Your videos are a cut above the rest! Having stuck with the CJ4 for which all of your videos helped. I have finally put my big boy pants on and promoted myself to airliners and wow this has helped no end! Keep ip the work thank you so much
Glad to help
Jonathan, been watching a few of your vids lately. You deserve waaaay more subs mate. Your videos are clear, intuitive, educational and exceptionally well paced. You explain things and provide little insights here and there to help explain WHY we are doing what we are doing. Also, you're authentic AF. As an example, when you ended this video, you noticed something unexpected. As opposed to ending the video and telling people to like and subscribe, you endeavoured to cut yourself off and quickly highlight what occurred and why - thus turning it into a mini lesson. These little things, make everything far more digestible and real. Happy New Year, and I wish many more subscribers to you, friend.
I hate it when people record videos, and you see the cuts where they messed something up - and it's magically fixed afterwards :)
@@jonbeckett HAHAH Indeed. Btw, If you ever want to record an a32nx IFR cruise to landing scenario, I'd be all over it. Finding it hard to find a good, clear vid of the full process. Thanks again.
Awesome guide, thank you!
Always clear and well explained! Thx Jonathan!
You're welcome :)
Fantastik job and I like Your Startup Precedure
Cheers :)
Great video again Jonathan.
Thankyou!
Love the fbw32nx i think im addicted to it! 🤣
I have FBW and the Fenix and have to say Fenix is the more immersive of the two, unfortunately I tend to use FBW more as it's sympathetic to my pc and frame rates particularly over longer flights 2hr+. Both though are infinitely better than the sandbox level MSFS A320.
Yep - agreed.
Thanks for the video I might try it out this weekend. The closest I've been to an airliner is the cj4 and that barely seems close.
Good luck!
with the brand new E2 version of the Honda Jet out yesterday - the Vision Jet - and what will be the new Longtitude jet
next month - I am now covered for the smaller End - you have just confirmed my choice to upgrade to the larger tubes
- and it is free. - you have also tempted me with the Free 310 - thanks Jonathan
I need to take a look at the Honda Jet again.
@@jonbeckett It is good - very good - i am well into the 310 thanks to you and iNI - but failing to get the 320 into
Managed from Selected and vice versa------- you thought the 737- 6 was tiny - try the new 318
Really good
Are there any good websites (or youtube videos) that describes each part of starting up the A320, not just "to this, flip that", but also digs in to why this is done. Whats an APU, how does it work, what does the switch do for "pack", what is even packs? Etc etc? =)
Should the auto throttle have kicked in or was it an error in the FBW logic?
Brilliant tutorial. I will see if you have done similar for the Fenix.
It was a mistake by me. I left the throttles fully forward for too long.
This was *not* a tutorial. Check the real A3XX pilot RUclips sim channels for correct operation tutorials.
@droge, dude, why don't you take a chill pill, and watch, what you like.
Awesome tutorial !! thanks for your help and effort, just a quick note, on page 4 there is a typo, it should say "Overhead panel Ctrl+8" instead of "Ctrl+5"
I'll fix it next time I get a chance :)
Thank you so much.
Cheers
A wonderful video as always. Please can you make a video of how to do an approach and landing sometime? Thank you 😊
I think I have in the past? If you do a search for ILS and A320 you'll probably find it?
@@jonbeckett thank you, I’ll have a look. Keep up the superb work with all of these videos!
Hello Jonathan, Keep coming back to this video.. Autopilot did not pick up flight plan, on my flight last evening. Any idea, as to why my Managed mode will not engage? Looks like a full hand, whenever I try to pull/push in on the knob. Thank you
It will be because the flight plan is not complete or has problems.
@@jonbeckett @HGR693 You need to switch the sim to 'Legacy Mode' flight controls for the FBW A32NX in order for the up/down indicators to show. :)
Thanks fir the video and explanations. I found That I was unable to switch the heading or the altitude on the glareshield to 'managed' mode, and after takeoff the AP wouldn't engage., so the aircraft wouldn't fly the flightplan. It seems i forgot something, as everything else worked as you described. Any thoughts?
Difficult to say without seeing what you did.
Great video. Are you using dx11 or dx12?
DX11
Guys from FlyByWire are recommending dx11
Is the TNT just for the UK. if so what is the "TNT" for the U.S if you could answer please
Hello Jonathan, FIGURED OUT THE HAND issue . Now I do get a down /up arrow. ??? At what airspeed or Altitude, should I engage the Auto Throttles? Thank you.
Auto Throttle will switch on automatically in the Airbus. Autpilot typically not until several thousand feet.
Thank you.
Interesting, how to set FBW A320 for RNAV approach? Thank you.
Anyone else lately having issues with the plane not following the flight plane or the altitude ajustments not working ? oh and I'm using Navigraph and Simbrief. The Plane will follow like at the end around the approach. It doesn't seem to act like the Salty 747-6 which I fly now because the A320 seems to be faulty. LOL that print out in the end was hilarious.....I got to try that :)
Late to the party, sorry. Yes, I am having the same issues. Even though I am a Navigraph user and my AIRAC is being updated in MSFS the plane is following something different than the flight plan. Scratch head here. My work around, which is silly, is to use the MSFS World View to create my FP and use it instead of SimBrief. The World View FP in the MCDU is correct, including SIDs/STARs so the FP is golden and the plane follows the route properly. I just need to hand-enter the rest of the data that this video covers.
Awesome! But I think you just forgot to retreat the flaps, that's why you were given the warning
Such a consise guide, great video thanks Jonathan. New subscriber here 👍 I am having an issue with fly by wire A320nx with the rudder. It is not working correctly and makes the aircraft uncontrollable. No issue with any other aircraft including the default A320. Any ideas?
Have you calibrated the rudder ?
@@jonbeckettlooks to be an issue with the toolbar pushback add on, after removing it is much better. Haven't touched any configuration for rudder and haven't map tiller to anything yet
@@patm1617 Yeah - I tried toolbar pushback many moons ago - I have a vague recollection that none of the pushback add-ons work nicely with the 737. It has it's own pushback functionality hidden in the FMC.
Nice
Interesting - on watching back, the aircraft accelerated straight through 220 knots and set off the alarm - taking no notice of flap position. The real issue there was I didn't raise the flaps quickly enough to deal with the target airspeed for the climb out. Again - I *should* have reviewed the climb profile in the MCDU performance section.
Keeping you on your toes! 🤣
It is hard to talk and explain things while flying. Nice job, though.
Remove flaps before pulling back to CL.
I downloaded this checklist early this year - has it been updated of late?
I don't think so - the checklist doesn't go through the ATSU / AOC menus, which is where most of the changes have been as far as I'm aware.
@@jonbeckett I still use it with no issues so it's been very valuable - cheers! :)
Do you use the stable or experimental version?
Stable
I might as well return to FBW beause FENIX seems to be broken on my end!
I have no issues with the Fenix - strange :/
How is it broken for you?
@@jonbeckett I got the issue fix. I am on their discord and its confirmed to be a bug! I found the work around the issue. I am relieved!
@@caribbaviator7058 Its considered polite to offer the fix for fellow flyers who might be experiencing something similar? ruuuuude.
You know that you are an avation nerd when you have a Hand written a320neo checklist XD
But hey I can starr up the a320neo without even needing one so im also a nerd
I really like this plane but the rudder is way too slow, went in to the grass like 5 times
Erm... the nosewheel steering on the big jets IS slow. It's up to the pilot to anticipate and control in time :)
Why my autopilot dont turn on please replay
There are many reasons why it might not turn on. The most likely is that you don't have a fully programmed flight plan - or you have discontinuities in the flight plan.
@@jonbeckett oh thank you now ITS working. there was discontinuties in my plan
ADIRS - " The plane knows where it is coz it knows where it isn't" /s
Thrust not throttle, it’s not a prop 😂
I've been flying too many aircraft recently lol
pity its no use to an xbox user.
I never said it was.
@@jonbeckett Tbh, there are a lot of things you didn’t say. However, msfs is your title and it is a sim for pc and Xbox users, so believe it or not, it is implied. You could add ‘for pc’.
