- An example end-to-end flight from Dortmund to Frankfurt in the FlyByWire A320 Neo in Microsoft Flight Simulator - illustrating navigation, alitutude control, and talking a little about procedures, and where you might communicate with ATC.
Here's where you can get the checklist I mentioned:
ko-fi.com/jonbeckett/shop
I regularly fly online with a group that simulate ATC with a group of perhaps 10 pilots with ground tower, departures, sectors, approach, handovers, and so on. It's great fun, and a great stepping stone to the likes of VATSIM, should you be interested in pursuing that. Search for "MyAir Virtual" in Google :)

This is one of the easiest to understand tutorials to get people up in the air in the FBW A320. Thanks!
Thank you. Just a small note here. Usually we pull back the throttle to CL (climb) not just right after rotating, but once we see "LVL CLB" on the PFD (a primary flight display). In other words when we have reached the altitude when we don't need TOGA power anymore. If I am not mistaken it calls the Acceleration Altitude which you can see and manage on the Take Off Phase page in MCDU (THR RED/ENG OUT)
Great information - thank you.
Excellent that - thanks for sharing
Great flight. Your explaining through the flight is awsome. Well done!
Glad you enjoyed it
I love your english! I can easily understand every single word ! ❤
Another masterpiece in tutorials. Perfect pace and pitch. :)
Thanks again!
Fantastic !!!!!!!!!!!!! not into airlines but Jonathan makes it purely Entertaining and Educational
Cheers :)
Thank you for this tutorial. Subscribed.
Cheers :)
Great landing Captain!
It actually wasn't - I should have landed on the markers.
Only the Fenix has the internal modelled. Great video as always, congrats on the 10k!
Cool, thanks
I had the best schnitzel on this flight Thank You
Hahaha
Nice video, its good to see another person's procedure. I think you oversped because auto throttle doesn't engage with flaps down
Not bad for a free plane. Thank you ..fun video. I was hoping you were gonna touch and go about a hundred times on the way to your destination.
Now there's an idea for a future flight!
Thanks. I appreciate.
Honestly a lot of this can be used on other airbus aircraft given iirc the Headwind A330 uses FBW framework. Even in real flying the A330 and A320 share the same flight deck
Thank You Jonathan for this video. Helps me alot to get started in heavy flying the Airbus.
May I ask, are you using pre set-up camera views or are you "mousing" around? I find it difficult to quickly find the optimal views of different instruments etc. Maybe there is some third party app for this? Anyway, Thanks! David.
I use the built in views (CTRL+numbers) and mouse around.
Nice one.
Thanks!
Jonathan. Would explain how to show a SID, when you are using the full version of NAVIGRAPH. Thank you.
I did a video on Navigraph a little while ago - if you search my channel you should find it.
@@jonbeckett thank you.
Thx for this. How does LS work in the a320nx plus is that Frankfurt scenery an add-on?
A full flight in the FBW A320? Without MSFS crashing? I'm looking forward to this :)
I've rarely attempted to fly my NEO but decided to give it a go today. However, I'm not sure if there's some kind of add-on that you have and I don't, or what it is, but when you use the buttons to view the APU engine on that bottom display, my buttons are inoperable. I just looked through the Marketplace to see if there's something I missed, but don't see anything. So when I look externally at the rear of the plane, I don't see any exhaust coming from the APU. The only live buttons down there are pretty much the ENG and FUEL. ELEC and APU are inoperable.
I have the free FlyByWire airbus installed - Google it :)
@@jonbeckett Works like a charm now. Thanks.
John I doubt you will see this but do you not need to enter speeds and altitude in the airbus flight plan? Is it something the flight computer knows based on the known departure, arrival and cruise? I am yet to have a fully successful automated flight in the Flybywire. Keeping in mind I have just started this game a month ago...
It works it out. I often forget to populate the cruise altitude in the MCDU.
excellent video. Need some help though... Have Navigraph subsciption. Into what folder should i load the simbrief downloader into?, if I am using STEAM. I have a gen flt plan, but can't get it to load into the MCDU. Flybywire A320 neo. Thank you very much.
I have no idea - I don't use steam for MSFS. I'm sure if you Google it you can find out?. If you look in LittleNavMap in "Multi Export Flightplan Options" in the File menu, you can probably get some clues as to where to look :)
@@jonbeckett Got it . thank you.
I hope you are feeling better.
Not really - getting there slowly though.
Hi Jonathan. Thanks for these videos. I tried to push and pull the buttons like you did, but it doesn't seem to work. Do you have to hotkey the pull and push ?
Have you got the cockpit set to "Legacy" controls ?
@@jonbeckett No I have them on Modern. My layout or the screen shows that I have to press the left mouse button then click the middle button to change modes.
Sorry another question. I am struggling to get to grips with the aircraft especially getting it to maintain selected speed and altitude on AP. Looked at various RUclips videos but some are very old so can be confusing. FBW support recommend using their documentation as this would be current but I like to view videos as well. I see that you have small windows of various things such as the flight, simbrief, navigraph so you are able to switch between them. How did you set that up as I find myself getting lost trying to switch views.
Press ALT+TAB in Windows. Hold ALT down, and press TAB repeatedly (left side of keyboard). It's a Windows native function.
adding to that, I feel my mouse doesn't click properly as to turn things on or off. Example is I can't get the dot to appear or disappear from the speed, heading, or even the ALT. I was thinking maybe my mouse isn't configured properly for these to act as all the videos I see, I don't know....LOL again, maybe user error and not figuring it out but I've got a handle on many of the other planes I fly...
Danny
I think you may be talking about the legacy mode in the interaction system settings. I'm in legacy mode - without it, the simulator is a nightmare (dumbed down to use XBox controllers)
hi great vid, but your printed checklist link doesnt work???
It should! I'll check it again soon.
Did you use the stable versione of FBW?
Yes
Please help me, I must be going crazy trying to figure the auto pilot to work properly. I'm sure it's user error but I've been watching tons of videos and for whatever reason, I can not get it working properly. One, my auto thrust keeps moving up to togo after take off and bringing it down to climb...I then simply monitor my speed on my own making little adjustments. Honestly, not sure you can even help with that, but what I really need to know is the actual clicking on the Alt hold and VS. It all seems to work but only when I am cruising and I can monitor the speed manually making my own corrections but it's never at a constant single speed. All that being said, and all what is happening, I can't get a decent decent and land with ILS and letting the computer control me down. I've been having to manually land as I know where the airport is...not even sure if you can help, but I am getting frustrated as I am not figuring it out as simple as these videos are saying...It's just not working the same as I see it happening... I write you, as I see many of your videos so I figure I'll try asking for help....lol
Danny
Difficult to figure out what's going on - sorry.
One thing I have never understood in the Xbox version of this is how to 'pull' the airspeed knob if I want to select a manual airspeed. Can you help?
It depends what "control scheme" you are using. The XBox has a special method where the controls light up as blue - I don't have an XBox, so can't really help - I bet somebody else will be able to help though.
@@jonbeckett Thanks. I should have mentioned that I use a mouse for the cockpit controls.
Which version you used flybywire my autopilot not engage when I engage blink and turn off any solution?
If it won't engage you have a problem in the FMC. Make sure you have filled out all the data and removed any discontinuities.
@@jonbeckett in my mcdu show GPS primary lost any solution
Its not flybywire but flybyPIXEL
Hi, the link to your checklist doesn't seem to be working.
I just updated the link - ko-fi.com/jonbeckett/shop has all the checklists I have ever made :)
Question ? Why does the NSEW keys have a square on the key
North South East West - when entering coordinates, it's a hangover from earlier control units that had a numeric keypad.
My mcdu dosen't show the correct SID, so I don't know how to insert it. Does anyone know if I can do it any other way?
If you are not showing the correct SID, you have different AIRAC data between your map, and the aircraft. The easiest way to solve that is to get a Navigraph subscription.
you did not use Simbrief, I think
Probably not.
Turn on those auto brakes max
There was a lot I didn't do that is regarded as "proper" procedure - this was just an example really. I could have left it on autopilot and done autoland - even though they are *very* rarely done in the real world :)
28:33 , not a chance .. 99.99% of impostors (individuals wearing a uniform pretending to be pilots) would engage the autopilot at the gate if they could. 500 ft is considered a late engagement. P.S. remeber my offer to coach you into setting up a free Head Tracking System ;-)
Heh- I'm going to look at head tracking, purely so I can start doing DCS videos. Dogfighting is about 200% more difficult without head tracking of some kind.
Hello, How do you manage the throttles during the various phases of flight?
After TO I set them to CLIMB....if I want to increase or decrease speed where
should they be set to? Thanks
Leave the throttles on CL. The throttle lever in the airbus is a switch. At CL the autothrottle takes over - where you can then set speed or use vnav
OK, GOT IT !
