  • Days after the horrific massacre in Uvalde, the National Rifle Association is kicking off day two of its annual convention where Republicans are rejecting calls for stronger gun laws. As demonstrators protested outside, former president Donald Trump says he will still speak at the event because “now is not the time for politics.” NBC’s Garrett Haake reports for Saturday TODAY.

Oh America, people from other countries mourn the death of your children. But here you are blind to the main reason why death came to them. When you are supposed to stand beside your people, you are blatantly standing against them. If you think you are free, you are not. You are a prisoner of the wrong ideologies that even in front of a bleeding child you are blind. The cycle begins again, debates will arise again, the issue will die down again, nothing was done to solve this problem again, and children will die again. And again. And again. You have caused a lot of death in other places, the least you can do is protect what is yours. Yet here you are doing nothing, completely blind, looking far ahead of the horizon and not at your headless child bleeding profusely right in front of you.

And Fox, CNN, and ABC are also on youtube. So, I am pretty much aware (not entirely that is why I asked some people as well) of what's happening here and there. I am from the Philippines and America's situation now still shocks me you know? Since I was a kid, we Filipinos mostly consume anything American from movies, music, news, etc. Heck, our second official language is English, and growing up we have this mentality of "Wow! America is amazing! America is a dream place. I hope I'll be able to go to America." That's what most people from other countries like mine thinks. But now, hope you won't get offended, but I don't really feel like going there now that I can afford to travel. I know you have a beautiful country, the places are amazing, and most people a warm and accepting. But safety-wise I am scared to go there and that is coming from someone who is living in a country where some foreign people were kidnapped (this was years before, not currently). Legally or illegally people a getting shot and that shouldn't be happening because you are not in the middle of a war zone. America is not getting invaded, but people are getting shot here and there and children are dying where they are supposed to be safe living in one of the most powerful countries on the planet. Not to mention heated disputes between people whereby one draws a gun and shoots on an unarmed man be It a neighbor,or amongst family or a cheating wife???What about fluke accidents with children??? "Defensive uses of guns by crime victims is a common occurrence, although the exact number remains disputed (Cook and Ludwig, 1996; Kleck, 2001a). Almost all national survey estimates indicate that defensive gun uses by victims are at least as common as offensive uses by criminals, with estimates of annual uses ranging from about 500,000 to more than 3 million per year (Kleck, 2001a), in the context of about 300,000 violent crimes involving firearms in 2008 (BJS, 2010). On the other hand, some scholars point to radically lower estimate of only 108,000 annual defensive uses based on the National Crime Victimization Survey (Cook et al., 1997)." (Copy-pasted from p26-27 of Obama's 2013 "Priorities for Research to Reduce the Threat of Firearm-Related Violence ")
You can find "studies" that show anything you want. It doesn't make them true. A neighbor of mine's father came to visit from China and while walking though the neighborhood, he was attacked by two viscous dogs who tore open his shoulder, neck, and removed his left eye. Luckily the son ran out of the house and shot one of the dogs and the other ran off. This situation did not involve the police, is not included in any statistics, and was not covered in the media.
