I will need to re-do this video...I found out from a friend that Minwax Tung Oil is NOT really Tung Oil! I will have to buy the real Tung Oil from Hope - 100% and refinish my Bokken and Jo ( bo staff ). I'll post another video of the refinishing. Sorry about that: Stay tuned...

Your dog is awesome! The sanding scratch sound in my ears through in ears hurts my most inner audio sensitive senses, however, as with all things, I tend to practice myself with it - guess in this case it’s resilience against first uncomfortable sounds.
Ok sorry for writing so much about nothing really, have a great wonderful day and greetings to that dog!
    Cheers

What if I want to get rid of the varnish and do an oil polish by hand instead

Just a single coat of tung oil; is more than one coatrequired? Onto the bare and unfinished wood? Wgen is a maintainence coat required??

Hey quick question, how often do you refresh the coating?

Just fyi… I re-did mine a week later with the “real” tung oil 2 weeks later (after posting this vid). Anyway, regarding your question… There is an ongoing debate on this… it has been six years since I applied the real tung oil and have not reapplied any… the oil from your hands (sweat and all)… keeps it nice and lubed. I say do as needed. Some would debate that It does NOT even need oil at all - as it is not needed. I personally like to apply to all my wooden weapons (initially)…If you think it no longer has the same feel… slickness, lightly sand and reapply oil. Damp a cloth with it. Then wipe the boken and jo to remove sawdust - wood dust and any contaminants - clean the wood

I'm not allowed to treat my weapons this way. Untreated weapons let the owners just penetrate the wood.
