I've had a WL 10428-A about a year now. It's a lot of fun for the money, but I love crawling and it's not really a crawler. It does climb better with some strategically placed weight, and packing the front differential with heavy waterproof grease (which effectively locks the front end but leaves enough play you won't break axles.) And put some oil in the shocks (out of the box they have about a "drop" of oil in them.) But the low RPM control is not smooth for real slow crawling, it wants to burn out and go fast. And the controller is not the best for crawling, you need to "double tap" reverse to get it into reverse, which is not good for crawling where you may need to "rock" it back and forth. But it's great for bashing so you don't accidentally hit reverse and strip gears. Other than that the controller is really quite nice. Because of how it performs, the incentive is to use the throttle rather than skill, to bash or rock bounce rather than crawl. So I only get about 10 minutes out of a battery, where my crawler trucks will get 30 or more minutes out of the same battery. --- If you hear something "rattling" inside under the driver, pull the body off. Most all of these out of the box there is double sided tape under the receiver and ESC but they were never pressed down onto it to stick them in place. I have never broken anything on mine, but replacement parts and aluminum "hop up" parts are easy to find for these. Most Vaterra Twin Hammers hop up parts work on it. All in all I give the 10428-A a thumbs up. It can take some abuse, I've never broken mine (though I'm not really much for bashing.) If you shop around, or catch them on sale, you can find them for about $120 USD.
I recently purchased my first vehicle ever, ended up buying a Traxxas slayer pro 4x4 nitro, way beyond my level but wanted to throw myself right into the hobby and you and rcsparks studio are the reason why I’ve finally decided to get into the hobby. Keep up the great work and vids
Kevin I highly recommend buying a Traxxas summit they are great cars expecialy because you like crawlers but if you upgrade your summit to brush less it amazing. I personally have a summit of my own and it has been upgraded to brush less and runs on 6s it goes 60 miles and hour and can still crawl. You should get one

Make sure you can still fully turn the wheels, you were rubbing on the 12428 when you put bigger tires on it, obviously compare with the 12428 with locked diffs

hello kevin talbot i would like to know what the best RC crawler i can buy from 1/10 scale under 160 euros i have seen a lot of your videos and the wltoys seem to be robust. Since I bought a jjrc q39 for my 6 year old daughter I felt like having one for myself, I love the look of wltoys 12429 but it's 1/12 scale and I wanted a 1/10 .. what would be the best buy? Thanks for your time and I love your channel.
If you have the budget for batteries and a good charger too, then get an X-Maxx. I love it. Super tough and easy to work on. Runs a long time on 2 good 4s lipos.
No lol if that were true then real crawlers and Jeep's and stuff would be set up that way but their not, they are set up like this with a solid rear axle and most have solid front and rear.
