I met him when I was starting a singing career, age 17. He told me to judge my success on the balance between how many people in the industry were supporting me/offering employment and my own self belief-the balance should ideally be 50/50 but when things get tough the self belief should be sturdy enough to compensate. All in all, some of the best advice I've ever received. A fantastic person in real life and a very talented performer.
I've been lucky enough to meet Bobby Morse a few times, even played a round of golf with him - pre-Mad Men in the 1990's. He is such a nice, decent guy. One of the best speaking voices ever - he was perfectly cast in the show and the way they sent him off in that episode where Don imagines Bert saying goodbye in a song and dance gets me every single time I watch it. A truly superb series
The scene where he came back as a ghost dancing in the hallway with the office women almost had me in tears - I'm a grown man. It was perhaps the most beautiful moment in the series. In real life he seems just as enchanting.
Robert has been a star since I was a kid and went through a long spell out of the limelight. To see him do "Tru" in the 90s (available on RUclips) in his later years was so great. His Tony award for that show illustrates how beloved he was by the NY theater community. And he seems like a genuinely nice guy as others pointed out here. RIP Bobby Morse.
Saw him on the street in NYC near Lincoln Center around 2011. I rarely stop people like that but felt compelled to. He was the NICEST guy. Up, happy energy. So TOTALLY willing to take a moment and talk to me. Even let me take a selfie with him. Really great guy. Hope you see this Mr. Morse and know how much I appreciated that.
Met him in '85 when I was in my early 20's. Was having lunch with a doctor-friend in L.A. and Morse came over to the table (he knew the doctor). He smiled at me then said, "Hi, I'm Bobby - you have the most angelic face I've ever seen!" I would have gone with him anywhere after that line....
I was so happy to see him in this TV show when it came out, he's always been a favorite of mine since I was a kid. I actually met him in 1981 or 1982 when he was visiting his home town and needed to rent a car. I was the rental agent....lol my first meeting of a famous person. I told him I was always a fan and he thanked me nicely. :O)
I knew Bobby back in the 70's when he missed out on the old Polaroid commercial which he got beaten out by James Garner who appeared with Bobby's old friend Mariette Hartley. Sad time for him. But lets not forget TRU and his Tony! He has had a lot of luck later in life. He's a fine man and deserves his success. He threw out his back once helping me move a TV. Love ya Bobby! Luke
Robert Morse had and has the kind of Talent that you immediately notice. He originated Barnaby in Thornton Wilder's THE MATCHMAKER (the forerunner to the musical HELLO, DOLLY), followed it with a hilarious take-off on the young Hal Prince in another comedy hit, SAY, DARLING and more than held his own opposite Jackie Gleason in the musical TAKE ME ALONG, from O'Neill's AH, WILDERNESS. These three roles were the lead up to HOW TO SUCCEED IN BUSINESS WITHOUT REALLY TRYING -which Abe Burrows wrote for HIM! Morse's career since has definitely had its up-and-downs, with two definite theatrical ups playing the Jack Lemmon role in the musical of SOME LIKE IT HOT called SUGAR and, in his 60s, essaying Truman Capote in a one-man show. Now in his 80s, MAD MEN displayed his genius all over again. Bravo, Mr. Morse - a true Talent and Force in ever-changing show business.
I thought they missed a great inside joke in the first season when Don & Betty attend "Fiorello!" at the Broadhurst, but Don says he didn't like it. For most of 1960, Morse was a 29-year-old playing a teenager in "Take Me Along" next door at the Shubert, and it would have been funny had Don expressed total amazement that anyone would be expected to believe "that old guy" was a new high school graduate.
@@i.e.presents638 his first wife was Carole D'Andrea. They married in 1961. Second wife Elizabeth Roberts (he called her Libby which I always thought was cute) in 1989.
When I was a kid in the 90s i heard mom give a shout and I ran. She was reading the tv guid and it said that H.T.S.I.B.W.R.T. was coming. Even thoug it was going to be on a 1 in the morning mom didn't mind me staying up to watch it. I am so glad she did. i loved this man's acting and the movie still to this day. Oh and those letters stand for How To Suceed In Buisness Without Really Trying.
Not quite put the right way - he was a HUGE success in the 1960's and then yes, like many actor's careers - he had a long dry spell, then he did TRU onstage and he was back in the public eye and worked a little bit more but yes getting Mad Men was a huge boost to the third act of his career and he hit it out of the park
in jack frost 1979 you made one of a kind good job you did it iam happy about it

I wondered what happened to this actor. Saw him a long time ago in "Oh Dad, poor Dad, Mother's hung you in the closet, and I'm feeling so sad." He was a moma's boy in that film. I might have seen "How to Succeed in Business Without Really Trying" back then too. I do have a DVD of that film. He had a certain look, way of carrying himself, as in someone who can walk and talk and bring a humorous angle to just how he goes about, how he lives, and it hasn't gone away. There's nothing phony about the man. Can that be said of many actors?
@@shawnmulligan2894 There are a few full episodes now on here: ruclips.net/video/HdmUoFyVAVw/видео.html He was sooo great in it. So funny and charming.
@@lauramalek3128 Same here! I liked his performance in H2$ but then I watched a few episodes of That's Life and was completely blown away. To think it was a 60's series - just so ahead of its time. Such a shame people back then didn't appreciate how great it was. Robert Morse was hysterically funny and also lovely in it. He sang so well it melted my heart to hear him sing those beautiful songs. He and EJ Peaked made a great great couple. I wish they would release the series on DVD/Bluray but looks like it's just impossible with the copyright issues of the songs they used.😢

Wow! What wonderful advice! He is definitely a sweetheart, met him a couple of times myself - has always been a favorite of mine.
That is really good advice
This just sounds like good advice in general, no matter what industry you're in.
"Don, my boy!"
Saddest damn line of his entire time on the show.
Wow. I thought I was the only one imagining him saying that while I watched the video
😢😢 just watched that scene, this is my first watch of the show. My heart dropped.
He's the best guy in the show.
Every time he opens his mouth he steals every scene.
"You sold your birthright so you could marry that TROLLOP!"

@@i.e.presents638 THAT series is worth watching
Yes, by far the best scene in the entire show. Just beautiful.
I've met him too. Without a doubt, Robert Morse is the kindest, most gracious man in show business. He's also hysterically funny!

Robert is such an icon. Everyone there should be bowing down to his brilliance.
Love Robert. His acting skills are second to none. He *is* Bert Cooper.

I miss the past, this was only 2010
FANTASTIC ! Thanks for sharing !
I just read Robert Morse's filmography on imdb. The poor man. This really was a big break, and he's fantastic as Bertram Cooper.
The poor man?! Have you ever read about his extensive theatrical career?

+Lori Reece He seems very grandfatherly
Awww! He's awesome! Love the story about his meeting with Matt Weiner, lol
Robert Morse is a treasure.
the end shows how comfortable he was with crowds
@shanejensen He was the voice of Jack Frost in one of my favorite holiday movies ever! I've always loved him for that!
Bert Cooper commenting on Lane and Pete fighting "This is medieval". Just gold.
The release of that movie is, chronologically, not that far away from where the Mad Men timeline is now. Kinda funny to think about.
RIP to a legend
