I met him when I was starting a singing career, age 17. He told me to judge my success on the balance between how many people in the industry were supporting me/offering employment and my own self belief-the balance should ideally be 50/50 but when things get tough the self belief should be sturdy enough to compensate. All in all, some of the best advice I've ever received. A fantastic person in real life and a very talented performer.

I've been lucky enough to meet Bobby Morse a few times, even played a round of golf with him - pre-Mad Men in the 1990's. He is such a nice, decent guy. One of the best speaking voices ever - he was perfectly cast in the show and the way they sent him off in that episode where Don imagines Bert saying goodbye in a song and dance gets me every single time I watch it. A truly superb series

Robert has been a star since I was a kid and went through a long spell out of the limelight. To see him do "Tru" in the 90s (available on RUclips) in his later years was so great. His Tony award for that show illustrates how beloved he was by the NY theater community. And he seems like a genuinely nice guy as others pointed out here. RIP Bobby Morse.

  • @Jonathanbroder

Saw him on the street in NYC near Lincoln Center around 2011. I rarely stop people like that but felt compelled to. He was the NICEST guy. Up, happy energy. So TOTALLY willing to take a moment and talk to me. Even let me take a selfie with him. Really great guy. Hope you see this Mr. Morse and know how much I appreciated that.

Met him in '85 when I was in my early 20's. Was having lunch with a doctor-friend in L.A. and Morse came over to the table (he knew the doctor). He smiled at me then said, "Hi, I'm Bobby - you have the most angelic face I've ever seen!" I would have gone with him anywhere after that line....

But lets not forget TRU and his Tony! He has had a lot of luck later in life. He's a fine man and deserves his success. He threw out his back once helping me move a TV. Love ya Bobby! Luke

Robert Morse had and has the kind of Talent that you immediately notice. He
originated Barnaby in Thornton Wilder's THE MATCHMAKER (the forerunner to
the musical HELLO, DOLLY), followed it with a hilarious take-off on the young
Hal Prince in another comedy hit, SAY, DARLING and more than held his own
opposite Jackie Gleason in the musical TAKE ME ALONG, from O'Neill's AH,
WILDERNESS. These three roles were the lead up to HOW TO SUCCEED IN
BUSINESS WITHOUT REALLY TRYING -which Abe Burrows wrote for HIM!
Morse's career since has definitely had its up-and-downs, with two definite
theatrical ups playing the Jack Lemmon role in the musical of SOME LIKE IT
HOT called SUGAR and, in his 60s, essaying Truman Capote in a one-man
show. Now in his 80s, MAD MEN displayed his genius all over again. Bravo,
Mr. Morse - a true Talent and Force in ever-changing show business.

I thought they missed a great inside joke in the first season when Don & Betty attend "Fiorello!" at the Broadhurst, but Don says he didn't like it. For most of 1960, Morse was a 29-year-old playing a teenager in "Take Me Along" next door at the Shubert, and it would have been funny had Don expressed total amazement that anyone would be expected to believe "that old guy" was a new high school graduate.

Not quite put the right way - he was a HUGE success in the 1960's and then yes, like many actor's careers - he had a long dry spell, then he did TRU onstage and he was back in the public eye and worked a little bit more but yes getting Mad Men was a huge boost to the third act of his career and he hit it out of the park

I wondered what happened to this actor. Saw him a long time ago in "Oh Dad, poor Dad, Mother's hung you in the closet, and I'm feeling so sad." He was a moma's boy in that film. I might have seen "How to Succeed in Business Without Really Trying" back then too. I do have a DVD of that film. He had a certain look, way of carrying himself, as in someone who can walk and talk and bring a humorous angle to just how he goes about, how he lives, and it hasn't gone away. There's nothing phony about the man. Can that be said of many actors?

To think it was a 60's series - just so ahead of its time. Such a shame people back then didn't appreciate how great it was. Robert Morse was hysterically funny and also lovely in it. He sang so well it melted my heart to hear him sing those beautiful songs. He and EJ Peaked made a great great couple. I wish they would release the series on DVD/Bluray but looks like it's just impossible with the copyright issues of the songs they used.😢
