Rick wrenchin, skooby huntin, tatro coachin. I could watch this all night. I know how much work goes into uploading these video's....I just want to say thank you Tatro. I am so much more confident work in on my bowling balls now a.k.a amf's
I've grown up in backyard shade tree shops and been running these bikes since my 82 sporty, you can't have a more forgiving machine to learn on than a harley, they run with rods knocking valves not sealing and lack of oil so if burning up some pawls and seals is all that happens it's all good change em and run that shit till it blows and do it again
That’s probably why I’ve found that so many of the dipsticks are broken off. Is because the cable doesn’t run straight and wears the end of the stick off over time. I’ve probably found 50 of them broken off about where the cable would ride..
Ah, the joys of being a trainer! Viewers take note, when learning from those far more skilled than you are, don't assume your "way" is the best way even if it may work. Do study tech data first, in this case the appropriate service manual, but know that's a starting point. Every mechanic should learn different types of wear and what causes them. Learn to LISTEN and you'll learn much more. I've trained many aircraft mechanics and technicians and been trained by some excellent motorcycle and auto mechanics, machinists and weldors. I find Tatro's videos very fucking useful. BTW viewers should remember RUclips videos are not a substitute for tech data and study. If you own a Harley get the factory (NOT Haynes/Clymer/Chilton/etc) service manual AND the factory parts catalog whose exploded views supplement the manual. Those books are one thing HD does very well. Also learn to use internet forums for detailed info. RUclips does not substitute for forums. They're complementary. Learn HOW to learn. Knowledge is power.
all that is nice if you want to be stock. everything changes when you want to go fast. learning what works and why is what you need to do. yes, knowledge is power. tatro
Maybe get a couple of the old desk work lamps that are on a movable arm an mount one on each side of your work stations then you could just mount your phone or camera to it an adjust it easily an have 2 hands to work js they work great love the videos
I love these videos I banged a gear up on my 103 Street Bob so im rebuilding my tranny and i dont like bumming bears after paying a spendie repair bill.So wish me luck on my rebuild.Well wishes bikers
This was a great video. Would like to see more of I could make only one suggestion. Especially nubes like me. Say something like if that final gear is not seated all the way incase like my two stayed on the stem and not the case that you must set the damed thing or gears will not rotate. I believe that would help alot of people. However very entertaining and educational video.
Tatro I admire your patience with the bearded clam /5spd rebuild hope you still charged him full price for using your tools and misplacing them ;;I'm waiting to see future episode when it comes back in for another rebuild you would have had that done in 45 mins but vid was still very knowledgeable cheers
I dipped my tongue into a thimble of whiskey everytime the guy filming touched something more than once.....when he didn't need to.....and I'm drunk AF a third way through the video. Must be doing some good blow....or the worst case of OCD I have seen......

I gotta question for ya if you dont mind I got a 90 tourglide I beat the absolute shit out of this poor thing somehow could even think why but my dipstick to my trans said fuck you and broke off into my trans any reason u could think this would happen ? It's only aluminum so it didnt lock up or nothing never even realized it until I went to service my bike and well yea she still gets right along little round if the trans of course I just put all new seals in primary side of the trans because I was already bc I broke the belt lmao but that helped a whole lot I had mostly all the seals blown never really sealed but never really leaked mainly just seeping but it's a old evo probably never had any seals replaced in it got all sorts of performance shit s&s, dyna 2000i igniting havnt broke into the motor yet almost positive it's got a ev27 cam its s bagger cam she will get up and go thatscor damn sure shes a beast she will run eirh the big dogs just fine
28 minutes in and its painful to watch. Rick is like, "DUDE, I know what I'm doing!" While Tatro is just trying to get Rick to finesse this build... lol, who would you want to help you through this or any rebuild? Attention to detail gets my vote.
Tatro Machine that’s what I’m doing with mine, will I be able to get it back together? Idk but I’ll just keep chipping at it. Getting the clutch hub off my 89 was a nightmare.
Thats a fact....or someone needs to make.an informative video without the bickering snatching and grabbing and throwing parts maybe? Either way its a bad situation! Merry Christmas 🎅!
,With all the nice equipment and tools you have in your shop I am surprised that you don,t have and use the proper bearing tools for rebuilding Harley transmissions. Any good mechanic knows that you press or support against the inner race so you don,t stress or distort the bearing. How long do you really think those bearings are going to last? (Not long) Especially those trap door bearings after beating them back and fourth with a hammer. They are junk now.. I see the vid is over three years old. Just curious how long it was before it was back in your shop. Do charge them second time to fix your fuck? Do you charge them for all that fumbling time in the vid? If so shame on you.. I h
maybe you should keep your comments to yourself and not pick on your elders that are not quite all there anymore. he was payng his dues way before your were born. tatro
Rick is working on his own bike not paying some one an learning from a old school guy that not many of them left i woud love to meet a guy like tatro thats willing to share what he knows about H-D
Okay, i appreciate most shops that provide video's, here's the problem, i have checked a few of yours, the camera is always on the dog, the mechanics arm or the footrest when it should be on the job. way too much fast swinging around. leaves lots to the imagination, very little concentration on actually showing how the jobs are done and more on chasing around lie you'd rather not be doing the video but just doing it because you've got nothing else to do and you're gonna be glad when it's over. Sorry, got to find one of the others that puts the viewers interest ahead of their own. thx anyway.
you sure complain alot for getting this for free. the customer is paying the bill, not you. the customer is first and the videos are what you get. if you want to pay for the job and the production company to do the videos that you will get what you want. tatro
🤣🤣🖕 Idiot complains because this is how a real down home shop works. It doesn't have production value and some bullshit edm bargain value music playing in the background. BYE GUY!

Couldn't of said it better.
Watching this I felt like I was back working with my Dad 😀
Poor Rick leaking everywhere. Would love to hear some of his stories of road side repairs. Never though of using grass blades as temp gasket
Tatro: Rick what are you doing?
Rick: It's hammer time!
Good to see a video with Scooby, he was a great pup.
yes he was and he is in lots of them. look for the rat videos.

free or nothing.

I am so impressde by the ammount of inventory you got in your shop tatro.. and you seem to know where shit is :p
can't do any work if you have to stop all the time to get parts.

I think I'm actually more confused on how to do it but entertaining anyway.

If it wasn't for Rick, Tatro would make rebuilding a 5-speed look easy, the pair of them remind me of Statler and Waldorf.

Books = knowledge. Experience = common sense.
that about covers it.

I never use China, Tiewarn
what gear set did you install here? have you had any experience with the andrews or the rev techs?
yes, they all work about the same. every now and than you get a bad gear that you have to deal with.
tatro
Not sure what bike I want to get yet, but, can you put a newer 6 speed tranny on a older FXR (80'ish) EVO motor?
Rick is hilarious!!!
If you were left to work by yourself you'd have no fingers left.
Question if you pull the lip out the case removing the main shaft gear out the bearing on this same trans it the case junk or can it be reused? Does the lip have to be welded back in or will it work with out it?
Thanks for any assistance giving.
it is just without the bearing shoulder. something has the keep the bearing in place.
tatro
thank GOD that MR. Tatro is watching this man work on anything... this is scary video to watch...
Too bad y'all are not in Florida, I'd like to hang around with you old fuckers and learn some old school Harley.

Where's the hospital scrubs and latex gloves? Doesn't Cal. require them for motorcycle transmission assembly?
