Just a thought: If you're going to specifically highlight looping, you might want to pick a track that isn't just a kick and a snare. There's no audible difference between a 1-beat loop and a 16-beat loop.
Thanx man great video! For the past 6 years I've been a controller DJ and after watching this video a couple times I killed it at the club and it was my first time ever on the cdjs
lol wtf. I didn't even realize that this was you talking through the entirety of this video. But yes. Learned a lot! I practice every day for an hour when we don't have DJ's booked at the venue and am already starting to mix my own tracks for recording. looking forward to the rest of your series. Thanks Christian!!
Christian, thanks for the video. I've been dj-ing longer than I care to remember and only in recent years moved to CDJs (i am a vinyl dinosaur haha) but the functions on the 2000s I've just ignored and stuck to doing everything manually old school vinyl style. Learnt a lot from the video. Thanks.
To enable the needle search feature, make sure the deck is playing, press down on the platter with your thumb/hand and then search on the needle strip!
Young Chris! Edit: I stayed through the video for the lol but this video is genuinely very informative, so much it's even better than some tutorials of today!
I'll make a video about it tonight, but the easiest way is to hit the instant 4 beat loop button below the in/out loop buttons then immediately pressing the loop out button (it will start flashing) then pressing the [32] on the needle strip. Have to do it before the first 4 beats loop though, because the automatic loop is set for 4 beats until you press 32.
It depends on your budget, I'd first of all recommend trying as many different setups as possible by befriending other DJs and learn the different types of setups. Then, depending on your budget, set your sights on your own players. I'd recommend the Pioneer CDJ350 players and whatever mixer you can find in your budget.
It's still wild to me that "the art of DJ'ing" now assumes track analysis and that all the equipment has embedded support for beat quantization. Looking forward to your rekordbox deep-dive; curious whether it has good support for tracks in which the tempo changes, and how the 'nudging' feature on the CDJ hardware interacts with those situations.
Hi Mate! If is playingback and I want to select my cue point without affecting the playback, how can I do that? What is the difference marking a cue point and a hot cue? Thanks for the tutorial, it is really good!
Hey, just a question, I saw that before you make a loop your have to press play, is it possible to activeted the loop on the four first beat before you hit play ? My question is for all the cdj from cdj 2000 Thank you
how do i set the loop even b4 i press play on the song, while its paused on headphones. do i just go to that spot click in? and will it set? how do i extend it while paused also?? i wana mix at open deck nights without having to bring my controller. so i dont currently own cdjs
hi mate, there is one thing i would like to know i have this cdj but virtually pioneer can you tell me how to add folders of music and how to search them? i do know how to add a song but not how to add folders of songs.
In rekordbox you can either /2 or x2 the bpm of a track..especially usefull now when a lot of dj´s go thru a various amount of bpm thru a set, me included. Is this possible to do on the fly on the cdj? Let´s say a dubstep track is originally set to 70bpm, but you might want it to show 140bpm..or the other way around. If this is possible, it would be great if you could share your knowledge about that :)
Hello. Cool video for some CDJ basics. Thanks. I have a question though, what would be the quickest way to set an (almost instant) 32 bar loop? Thanks in advance. (=
Hey man, great tutorial! Just one quick question. Can i somehow possibly get all the cue points from vitrual dj (computer software) into a USB and then transfer them onto the CDJ?
hey that was really cool back there, so i bought one of those pioneer cdj 2000 and i don't know how to create effect like echo.......and i would like for you to show me how do you mix songs in the next video thank you have a good day
hello christian I got a question that is killing me maybe you can help me is the regular cdj 2000 almost the same as the nexus or the difference is huge because I'm trying to figure out get a pair of the cdj 2000 used or go for the xdj 1000 used or new?
Question about the saving to memory of a cue point. When you save it to memory, is that saving it to the memory of the CDJ, or the track itself on the USB. For instance if I save that cue point and then pull that track up in rekordbox after rentering it into rekordbox after using the CDJ, will it show up? Thanks, Ryan
just a question. i’m reasonably new to djing. was wondering if most djs if their doing a double drop in a set or something, do they have cue points already set, like a cue point let’s say 15 bars or something from the drop on both tracks. is that a common thing?
Yep, move the track to that point in the song, hit the loop in button. It also functions as the set cue point button. Then you can store that cue with the memory button.
Looserdoll Cue points automatically save to the rekordbox database on your flash drive. You only need one as long as the other decks are connected via LAN
How do i exit the "browse" tab? I select a track but they don't show the full waveform in the middle of the screen and i can't leave the "browse" menu no matter what..
Which is this "recordbox software" you talk about? Is there any specific program to save the hot cues for the CDJs or...? Which would be the most recommended software? :S Thanks
Let’s recommend this after 7 years
let's recommend this after 11 years
Without these videos, my first time on cdjs last night probably would of been a disaster. Thanks a lot man! Really appreciate the great tutorials.
Very helpful!! Finally, someone who does not take 30 minutes to explain a basic concept. Well done, and thank you for posting!
Just a thought: If you're going to specifically highlight looping, you might want to pick a track that isn't just a kick and a snare. There's no audible difference between a 1-beat loop and a 16-beat loop.
Why did this pop into my comment section. Dude you were so young.
yea lmao looks so different :D
Thanx man great video! For the past 6 years I've been a controller DJ and after watching this video a couple times I killed it at the club and it was my first time ever on the cdjs
+oscar88orellana i would love to be a Dj.

controller djs switching to cdjs kill it on cdjs I hate controllers but love my cjs
lol wtf. I didn't even realize that this was you talking through the entirety of this video. But yes. Learned a lot! Oh man i have a gig in 2 hours on a cdj2000 and its the first time i didn t bring my numark and your video is perfect to know little bit about it 😁👍🏿
Hope your gig went well!
oh god :D you were so young :D
Christian, thanks for the video. I've been dj-ing longer than I care to remember and only in recent years moved to CDJs (i am a vinyl dinosaur haha) but the functions on the 2000s I've just ignored and stuck to doing everything manually old school vinyl style. Learnt a lot from the video. Thanks.
RUclips recommended this to me now, video alone shows how far we have come.
Oh my god young boi Christian
Thank you!! I just bought a cdj 2000 and this helped a lot 🙌

Thanks for making this video. This is the first time I've understood why there would be a cue button separate from hot cues. Good explanation.
This video taught me exactly what i needed thanks man it was very useful and very well explained
Good to go back to this as a new user as the tutorials for the new ones nexus2 don’t give you the basics of cue points and looping nice one
The track is called WOW - Yves V & Felguk

I didn't wtf is going on here till I watched this. Thanks a lot!
Cool to see that christian still reads comments from his older videos lol
Ahaha came across this old gem, Christian looks completely different now ahah
for real lol i was like...what? christian jackson..but...he looks so different! lmao
Wow, young Christian looking fresh!
I like how you go into the details very deeply, like the meaning of the LED flash-rate. In fact, many DJs don't know about their meaning exactly.
The best value of time spent. Thanks!!

it doesn't indeed!
Is there a way to adjust the search/fast forward buttons so that they skip 8bars or 32 beats at a time?
THANK YOU FOR SIMPLIFYING THIS BRO!
Lovely tutorial, takes the controler DJ straight to the CDJ
This is pure gold.
So loop in to start loop, loop out to finish how long you want the loop to be, and then the exit button on the right to take the loop off
Hi Mate!

Really nice, straightforward video. Dig it!
If you are playing with usb stick will the Cdj analyze the track so you can get a clean cut loop
Is the Button that allow you to switch cue to cue work with the Hotcue too ????
thanks :)
how do i set the loop even b4 i press play on the song, while its paused on headphones. do i just go to that spot click in? and will it set? how do i extend it while paused also?? i wana mix at open deck nights without having to bring my controller. so i dont currently own cdjs

Good catch!

Nice video, it works!
Hello. Cool video for some CDJ basics. Thanks.
I have a question though, what would be the quickest way to set an (almost instant) 32 bar loop? Thanks in advance. (=
Thanks for uploading.
I just got TribeXR DJ simulator on Steam for virtual reality.
Hey man, great tutorial!
Just one quick question.
Can i somehow possibly get all the cue points from vitrual dj (computer software) into a USB and then transfer them onto the CDJ?

hey that was really cool back there, so i bought one of those pioneer cdj 2000 and i don't know how to create effect like echo.......and i would like for you to show me how do you mix songs in the next video thank you have a good day
Are the cdjs set to quantize loops so it syncs flush or is there a setting you have to change?
hello christian I got a question that is killing me maybe you can help me is the regular cdj 2000 almost the same as the nexus or the difference is huge because I'm trying to figure out get a pair of the cdj 2000 used or go for the xdj 1000 used or new?
I have the cdj 2000 not nexus theres anyway to have a bigger waveform?
This helped a lot thank you

excellent verbage and smooth steps
Excellent!! Loved it
Man, you're really awesome! You got a like and a sub
Thank you for this. Learning to play on CDJ's really soon, and this video is a great start.
Wow this really helped me. Thank you !
Nice video!
Ten per track plus three hot cues
Thank you. Appreciate your expertise.
Hi. Is the CDJ-2000 the only model which allows for saving cue points to memory, or can other models do that also?
do you need blank cd to use the cdj or can you load tracks straight from the mac into the cdj???
Great informational resourceful video...superlike
Unfortunately this is not possible, only the hot cues can do this live without playback interruption. Kind of a bummer!
Nice tutorial!
great turorials!
Is it Possible to set the in point of a loop before the track is playing ? Cheers.
Yep, move the track to that point in the song, hit the loop in button. It also functions as the set cue point button. Then you can store that cue with the memory button.
Christian Jackson beauty thanks
I know this was made a long time ago... but your cdjs don’t have a ‘sync’ button... how would you do this on these ones??
great tutorial
Super helpful thank you!
Dope vid. Shot!
Thanks that was very helpful
is it possible to memorize the cue points in the memory stick, the one I got all my songs on, or do you need a memory card for each cdj?
Looserdoll Cue points automatically save to the rekordbox database on your flash drive. You only need one as long as the other decks are connected via LAN
Great tut!
What Mixer is this obvious pioneer as noticed some fx, near the right deck if these are fx's many thanks
djm-900 nexus
thank you very much.
great video!!
So no visual beatmatching???
How come I cannot jump to a que point using the left right que call button??
please, could you tell me how to start a track directly with a loop ? what if i want it looped from the very first beat
man need some help ,how to unlock needle search?!Thanks
I prefer MA Christian tbh
Please make a full tutorial on how to..like know the basics and etc.
HOMMIE SLAPPING ON THOSE BUTTONS SO HARD
You are the best tanks for your videos 5 stars
your an awesome tutor!
amazing man
How do i exit the "browse" tab? I select a track but they don't show the full waveform in the middle of the screen and i can't leave the "browse" menu no matter what..
The full waveform is only a feature on newer CDJs. The 2000s don’t have them.
Which is this "recordbox software" you talk about? Is there any specific program to save the hot cues for the CDJs or...? Which would be the most recommended software? :S Thanks
Andy Lojik ah okay, thank you so much! :D
*Just imagine, people were doing this back in the 80s and 90s with vinyl records without RUclips OUCH*
thanks man for this tutorial......
What is the button for cutting a loop on a NXS 2000? since the loop cutter button there is gone
+Jordy Beckers use the loop half/double button. Also known as the cue call forward/back buttons
