Ok so today Robert Plant may have some misgivings about how he sang in Zeppelin's heyday but I tell you he was THE best rock voice then, so much power, range, emotion and soul. Planty hitting those high notes may not be everyone's cup of tea but it hits me in ALL the right places and gives me goosebumps. No one in rock could touch him singing.
I would argue that Paul Rogers ex Free, Bad Company was as good , no IMO, a better singer than Plant. The latter relied on too many baby baby baby , howls , shrieks, wails etc
@@andrewarthurmatthews6685 Roger's was definitely good but for me, not better. I don't think Plant relied on shrieks or wails, he sounded fantastic without them as well, he didn't 'need' them, they were just one part of his repertoire.
Agreed. THE best. Anybody can scream and shout. Robert Plant wailed with an intensity that ran through you like a freight train. Raw, emotional, pleading and the juxtaposition with the soft circumspection is very dramatic and unparalleled m.
The song was included on the first studio album. It’s called “I Can’t Quit You, Baby”, a song written by Willie Dixon. This is a cover song, which was actually first recorded by Otis Rush.
The 'Hammer of the Gods' & yes, even so long after their heyday, they still reign supreme ! Yes, there are many who copied them, but none of them reached anywhere near the heights of these 4 musical magicians.
Odd it sounds like Jimmy is palm muting throughout parts of the solo. 3:55 in particular Unusual for this song. Never heard him do that on any other live version (or the studio version). He was always changing things up I guess. Just sounds odd here.
Jimmy Page could play the phone book and it would be nothing less than Phenominal !!!!!!! Thanks for posting these early blues gems!
And John Paul Jones' rendition of the phone book on keyboards is phenomenal, especially the 'Smith's!!!
BRAVO
What a cute ! Plant has a very good performance singing blues songs

One in a million voice. Plant and Greg Allman.....no one could touch either one. Best Blues voices of any white man that ever did it.

Yeah, it's one thing to copy it, but quite another to come up with it in one's own mind.
