At the end of the day, pretty much any landing page service will work. The reason this was a big deal is that its free for artists that use DK, so it gives people an alternative over ToneDen which is also free. Personally I tend to use Hypeddit, although recently i've been using my own custom coded web pages so I have more control. Use whatever landing page service you prefer.
Hi Andrew, great videos as always! I dont have any of the conversion events options available in my business ad account that you have in this video. I cant seem to set it up either. How do you get them? Big thanks!
Hello. When I try to create a conversion event. i do not see any of the custom event choices like I see in your video. All I see under Data Source is Event (not Conversion Event) and only have All URL traffic as an option, with no list of the HyperFollow custom events to add. Can you help?
Hey Andrew, just tried setting up my pixel as you showed and nothing is happening. I also dont really know how to setup the pixel properly, do I have to do the "continue pixel setup" and connect a website?
I keep trying to set up my pixel, but it just asks me to embed a code somewhere on a website. I don't have a website tho. Is it talking about the hyperfollow website?
@@AndrewSouthworth thank you! I just saw your toneden v hypeddit v feature fm video too. And yeah I'll be going with hypeddit. Once money rolls in, I'll hope over to feature fm
When I try to create a custom event, I can't select any of the events that show up in my test events section...how do I get them to show up so I can select one of them from the dropdown?
I made generic click event with BandLink. I'm not aware of parameters list of Distrokid page, but BandLink release page has list of parameters and one of them is event_type (view, click). And you can set click without specific url/label so it will fir any click to the platform. I believe it should be feasible with majority of custom events.
Unfortunately DistroKid's Hyperfollow can't work in a conversion campaign at this time since it doesn't support custom domains. I've been told its coming eventually though.
Hey Andrew, I love your content! I've been facing a problem everytime I put pixel id and go to save changes an invalid URL pops up. Could you please give a way around this?
Hey andrew, i seem to be having a problem where the custom conversion events aren't showing up when I click on the conversion event in the custom setup, all i get is "all url traffic" what do I do?
Actually, my issue has just been resolved! Seems you need to trigger those conversion events, so activate your "event" - in my case I needed to click the Spotify presave option on my Distrokid hyperfollow landing page - and then refresh the page and that should be visible in your conversion events.
I have this same issue and I cannot find a work-around, please help @Andrew Soundworth

@@alexdell6837 Hey I had the same issue, all I did was what Joey described. I triggered a "Click Spotify" by myself (make sure its the Hyperfollow page WITH the pixel already firing by checking via the PixelHelper Chrome add on) and then refresh the Events Manager in FB Business Manager. It then appeared.
Yo Andrew, after running the test and getting a list of custom conversions, that same list doesn't appear in the drop box when I'm trying to make a custom conversion, is there a step not shown in the video to get to show up? I only see View Content.
Make sure you use the custom events to make a custom conversion, then wait like 5 minutes and it should appear in your ad sets to use as a conversion event.
They now have an event for clicking any of the buttons called 'clickOut'. So if you click Spotify for example you get two events 'clickOut' and 'clickSpotify'.
Nice one Andrew! I was hoping they would sort this out. I'm gonna test this out for my next pre-save campaign. Thanks again for great information. On another note If you ever fancied doing a collab together on something, as I really dig your production on 'Red Light' and 'Neutron'. Maybe doing a EDM remix of one of my singles? Or if you need any top lines for any of your unfinished tracks? Anyhoo food for thought. And no worries if you don't think it's a good fit. Thanks again for the info man!
for the love of me i cant figure this out. i followed the steps you did, but when i want to make a custum conversion event, i dont get the list that you do with options as "clickspotify", i only get: all the URL traffic. what am i doing wrong?
Love your content! Question... When I click into "Conversion Events" it doesn't have a "clickspotify" option like it does in your video, it only says "All URL Traffic". How did you get "clickspotify" to appear in the dropdown?
@@AndrewSouthworth got it ! Thank you! By the time I ended up coding my own webpage (similar as LinkFire) which will fire the standard ViewContent event from facebook on my call-to-action button when « play on Spotify » is clicked 😉
Thanks! ToneDen passes over event parameters which you can use to make custom conversions for specifically Spotify or Apple Music, although most of the time I don't bother.
one question: my new song's gonna be release on 9th of October. For the moment i'm creating a video view campaign to find my target audience. Would you suggest after 2-3 days i chould create a pre-save campaign based on the data ive collected with video views campaign ( such as people who watched 75% of my video ad ) ? I watched your 22 min pre-release video, i know u covered this but i didn't actually see the process of adding pre-save campaign to that. btw i love ur videos, the knowledge you share is golden
We are doing the same thing with an Oct. 21st release but testing ads with another released song first. What has worked waaaaayyyy better than just retargeting is to make a custom audience based on 95% video views and then make a Look-Alike audience based on that (you have to wait for the custom audience to fully populate). The trick is, though, you have to have 100 results in one country to make a Look-Alike audience. The way to do that is to just focus on one country (like Brazil) with your video views campaign until you have 100 95% video views, then expand to other countries. We did try retargeting and it burned through all of the results in one day with no conversions. We are going to try retargeting the 50% views with another video view campaign with a different ad, but so far, it has been way less effective than making a Look-Alike campaign. Andrew has a video on Look-Alike campaigns where we learned this approach. We have three LAL adsets now that are below $.10 per conversion. They work like magic.
@@Katishan me too hyperfollow campaigns are not that effective for me either. I'm going to wait until Andrew does one to see how his results look like before I try it.
@@onyxxproductions8187 one thing confusese me. i've been running a video view campaign for 4 days now. and ive gathered nearly 1800 thruplays. now, when i go create a conversion campaign i want it to target the people who made these thruplays. yet, when i pick the ad from custom audience, the 3% view section only shows around 50 people ... whats the deal here ?
@@SonOsman So, thru-plays are around 80% of the video views video. When you make a custom audience based on video views, you have to choose 25%, 50%, 75%, or 95%, so you can't look at thru-plays. You have to change performance to video engagement to see how many results you have for each percentage. So, let's say you have 2000 75%. You can retarget those 2000, but they won't all get the ad at the same time. Some may not be back on their device for days, or ever. Because of this, we only did Instagram stories for the video views campaign (and focussed on prosperous, first-world countries). People are much more likely to check Instagram every day. You know which of those 2000 were retargeted by your "impressions" number. Having said all that, we retargeted 3195 people who watched 95% of the first video and only 87 of those people watched 95% of the second video and there were no conversions. Andrew has been saying he has stopped retargeted video view campaigns because the results aren't good and it is actually more money than a cold campaign. We turned ours off after this. He does retarget the pixel with good results. We haven't tried that yet. We had much better results from making a Look-alike audience based on the 95% video view audience. These are different people, but most similar to the first group that responded. But... you have to have 100 people in one country to make a look-alike campaign. Also to note: We and many other people (according to comments in another video) did not see the conversions from the free ToneDen smart-link translate to streams (after hundreds of conversions in our case, some had thousands). We just switched to Hypeddit for this reason. It's only been active today and we copied all of our campaigns because the result types were different than ToneDen, so it will be a few days before the campaign optimizes.
Fantastic video and breakdown my dude! Gonna implement this method and see how it goes. But just wondering: when you created your FB Pixel, did you use the partner integration or install code manually? I'm lost af on that particular step.
@@AndrewSouthworth cool sometimes you say you running ads for multiple songs at once , I wondered if that affects your analytics trying to keep track of each song???
@@AndrewSouthworthCool, I Just tried this and it was working when I tested it and it was green when I created the ad but woke up the next morning and the custom event turned red again. Have you ever had this happen? Doing a pre save campaign by the way.
You can't see it in the stats on the HyperFollow page, that is true. But if you set up all the custom conversions you could track that inside FB ads event manager.
Did anyone else experience a ban on their ad account after switching to HyperFollow for their landing page? I think since it makes people log in to Spotify sometimes it may not meet Facebooks requirements for landing page standards :/
Its been happening to a lot of people but its not from HyperFollow. It seems like FB adjusted their sensitivity for their banning algorithms. Luckily people are getting their accounts back but it basically just wastes a week of your time waiting for their appeal process.
@@AndrewSouthworth Okay phewww, let's hope it's that because this Distrokid setup is fantastic and I really want to keep using it. My only concern is that FB may continue to ban the ads because now my account is probably on a list. Thank you Andrew

Yo if you have a contact at Distrokid can you please ask them about getting better with royalty releases. I had my withdrawal initiated for over 5 days just waiting for it to release. They should really offer some sort of paid service where they promise to get the funds transferred within 24 hours of you initiating the withdrawal.
He Andrew do you recommend this over toneden. Just asking because I remember I saying that toneden had a really nice feature where it doesn’t take u to a landing page but right to Spotify , because the thing with landing pages is you lose a lot of traffic or something like that. Just wanted ur insight on that. Great video btw
Toneden only takes you directly to Spotify if you are paying for their follower campaign (which is an eye watering 100 bucks a month not including your actual ad budget) and using just their landing page obviously won't do that. Found that get nearly as many follows using normal ads with a landing page as long as our ad encourages them to hit follow.
We just switched from ToneDen to Hypeddit and it messes with your result totals when you change result types because there is only one result column. We ended up copying the campaign and switching the conversion event so we could still see still the results from the previous campaign to compare.
i cant get the overview page to work it says to paste a code into the website but how its not even my website can you do a video on this the instructions are so confusing on fb
Hey, first want to say thanks for all your help. Second, if I was to use the spotify presave conversion button for a presave campaign, do you think I would get as many conversions per day as just a typical View Content conversion? The reason I ask is because if I can get just as many, I can rack up a ton of new Spotify followers (the nice byproduct of the spotify presave.)
In general doing a pre-save campaign will cost roughly 10X more per conversion, which is why I don't bother with it. There is just so much more friction for a pre-save, or an auto-follow type event.
Andrew Southworth I see what you’re saying. I almost wish spotify could integrate a pre save function into their platform because I feel like that is the only way we can get the costs of a pre save campaign down. Because at the end of the day, the real followers is the most important stat imo.
@@42recordsstudios Yeah I wish Spotify would add a lot of things haha. On the flip side though, people that follow on their own free will are much more engaged than people who are tricked into following you by clicking a button. Those people still have value to your music for sure, but not as much as someone who goes out of their way to follow you because they really want to stay updated.
Hey Andrew.Do you know if people end up automatically following you after clicking thru to Spotify similarly to how they automatically follow you when you use this feature as a presave?
They won't, but if you do it as a pre-save they will. Anytime an app takes actions on behalf of the user the Spotify API requires that the user logs in, which ends up causing a lot of friction and drastically increasing the cost per conversion.
I've done all this correctly but the custom events don't show up in the list if I want to select them from the custom conversion window. All I see are the two Hypeddit events as that's what I used before deciding to move onto distrokid's hyperfollow. I'm going mad! Checked and rechecked over and over and it's been an hour.

Hey! This is awesome! I can't find where to set up the custom event though.. its only giving me the standard options.. has this changed with all of the new updates?
I have the same question!
@@PierreJamesMusic if I were you I wouldn’t use conversion events for FB adds now. I would just do traffic objective. I’ve learned a little on the past 2 years haha
Since I saw your comment I figured I would update you on my thoughts haha
the biggest blessing ever!!!!! YES!
This might be a dumb question, but let's say I have a pixel installed on my website; do I need to create a separate pixel just for distrokid? Or can I use the same one?
You can use the same one.
so would you recommend doing this hyperfollow, over just toneden?
At the end of the day, pretty much any landing page service will work. The reason this was a big deal is that its free for artists that use DK, so it gives people an alternative over ToneDen which is also free. Personally I tend to use Hypeddit, although recently i've been using my own custom coded web pages so I have more control.
Use whatever landing page service you prefer.
Hi Andrew, great videos as always! I dont have any of the conversion events options available in my business ad account that you have in this video. I cant seem to set it up either. How do you get them? Big thanks!
did you work this out?
VERY VERY HELPFUL THANK YOU ANDREW
Hello. When I try to create a conversion event. i do not see any of the custom event choices like I see in your video. All I see under Data Source is Event (not Conversion Event) and only have All URL traffic as an option, with no list of the HyperFollow custom events to add. Can you help?
Once you trigger those events for the first time they usually take around 30 minutes to show in custom conversions as an event.
This video is an absolute lifesaver. Thank you for uploading!
Its not working on for me neither. I tried to paste the pixel hyperfollow is not sending any events
Did you do this before or after release? Thx, your videos are super helpful, subscribing!
Would you still recommend distrokid hyperfollow or hypeddit?
I prefer hypeddit, can setup a custom domain on it and is has more tools available. Also pretty cheap at $9/month.
@@AndrewSouthworth thank you! I just saw your toneden v hypeddit v feature fm video too. And yeah I'll be going with hypeddit. Once money rolls in, I'll hope over to feature fm
Finally!
holy shit that's so helpful my guy! I couldn't find the custom event anywhere because I didn't create one haha
When I try to create a custom event, I can't select any of the events that show up in my test events section...how do I get them to show up so I can select one of them from the dropdown?
Never mind, answered my own question by waiting for about 10 minutes. Everything took a bit to show up.
I made generic click event with BandLink. I'm not aware of parameters list of Distrokid page, but BandLink release page has list of parameters and one of them is event_type (view, click). And you can set click without specific url/label so it will fir any click to the platform. I believe it should be feasible with majority of custom events.
Is this still applicable today?
Unfortunately DistroKid's Hyperfollow can't work in a conversion campaign at this time since it doesn't support custom domains. I've been told its coming eventually though.
Ooooh this is exciting! Thanks for this Andrew
I am currently trying out your Marketing methods. What is a considered a good cost to conversion ratio?
$0.10-$0.20 is pretty great, $0.20-$0.30 is decent.

Yeah I’ve done a bunch of videos on it. Search my channel videos and they’ll come up

Hey Andrew, I love your content! I've been facing a problem everytime I put pixel id and go to save changes an invalid URL pops up. Could you please give a way around this?
did you buy the hypeddit pro brother?
Yeah I use the pro version.
Hey andrew, i seem to be having a problem where the custom conversion events aren't showing up when I click on the conversion event in the custom setup, all i get is "all url traffic" what do I do?
I see the same! There aren't any options in the "Conversion Event" drop down aside from "All URL Traffic." Has anyone remedied this?
@@AndrewSouthworth Nice one, it's there now :)
Thanks a ton for keeping me current on marketing, Andrew.
They now have an event for clicking any of the buttons called 'clickOut'. So if you click Spotify for example you get two events 'clickOut' and 'clickSpotify'.
Yeah it’s great! Super glad they added it.
Having the same issue! About to use hypeddit instead.
Love your content! Question... When I click into "Conversion Events" it doesn't have a "clickspotify" option like it does in your video, it only says "All URL Traffic". How did you get "clickspotify" to appear in the dropdown?
Thanks! I actually replied to your comment in more detail here in a new video: ruclips.net/video/eMJggcXx-QA/видео.html
The big question is will you choose this over the others or no?
hey andrew wondering if you could make a video about the new spotify radio app and how artists can take advantage of it?
Hey! Is it still working with IOS14? I assume a verified domain is needed right?
Yeah but unfortunately HyperFollow by DistroKid hasn't added custom domains so you'll have to use something like ToneDen or Hypeddit.
@@AndrewSouthworth got it ! Thank you! By the time I ended up coding my own webpage (similar as LinkFire) which will fire the standard ViewContent event from facebook on my call-to-action button when « play on Spotify » is clicked 😉
Great content! Question: Is the custom event function available with ToneDen too?
@@onyxxproductions8187 how have the switch to Hypeddit performed? Did you manage to understand why Toneden did not convert? Tnx mate

Fantastic video and breakdown my dude! Gonna implement this method and see how it goes. But just wondering: when you created your FB Pixel, did you use the partner integration or install code manually? I'm lost af on that particular step.
Thanks! You really just have to copy your FB Pixel ID and paste it into whatever service you're using, in this case DistroKid's Hyperfollow.
Great move distrokid we needed this and thanks Andrew, question do you use the same pixel for every song you drop?
Yeah I use the same Pixel for all my songs, and other stuff too.

woah that's huge. super easy to target say both apple music and spotify in the same campaign/landing page now.
You cant see the different clicks to Apple, Spotify etc like on Hypeddit smartlinks page though.

Nope you can use the same Pixel for everything associated with your music project.
see that's what I mean. music project or music ARTIST? cause it looks like you're using the same one pixel for every campaign u run.
even if I'm running multiple campaigns at the same time? I wanna run a campaign for an EP, and a whole different campaign for another single not on the ep at the same time. I cant create a custom conversion event for the new single because its identical to the old one. fb wont let me.

Also great video as always man!!
So helpful! Right on time!
ME TOOO!!!!!!!
If I'm using CBO $10 a day, how many ad sets should I use at once?
I'd probably launch with like 5 ad sets.

THANK YOU ANDREW
has something changed because of apple 14 becuase I tried to paste the pixel hyperfollow is not sending any events for me anymore
@@AndrewSouthworth gotcha! thanks for the insight and great video :)
