    This was super helpful, thank you! I was wrestling this process for a sign up conversion ad a couple weeks ago and was totally lost. I got the ad running but only one custom event. The time delay is exactly what I needed to know. Perhaps I overlooked it but you would think FB would mention that right away instead of all the other jargon that isn’t easily comprehended for someone that isn’t a professional marketer or web developer.

    I'm trying this now (Jan. 2023) and it seems you have to have a website URL as an event in your pixel. I may be wrong but I cannot select a conversion event and getting stuck. Does anyone know anything about this? Any help is appreciated. Thanks!

I signed with a Label that seems to be good because they had a good playlist but it seems to be only playlists that doesn't really care about it . I had few other organic label option..     My custom conversion still show inactive after clicking on the page. Fb requires rules now so I set a URL for "spotify". Aggregated Event Measurement is automatically turned off but when I try to turn it on it goes to a page saying I need to upgrade to a business account, which I already have. However, Facebook won't let me connect my ad account with this business account. Got any advise?

    So I followed this exactly with ToneDen and the action that the pixel recorded was “View Content”. When I got to the step of creating my own custom conversion the only even that showed up was the “View Content” event. Is this the correct option for a toneden user?

    Great stuff. Any other service you recommend that allows you to track Spotify specifically? Or do you think we can still succeed with conversion objectives if we just use a 'Click to view' standard event from all the buttons getting triggered? Thanks Andrew

      Thanks! There isn’t really a better way to track Spotify itself, the closest we can get is with a landing page and conversions. So that brings us to ToneDen, hypeddit, feature fm, etc. there are other deep linking options like artisthub and url genius but I haven’t had as good results with those.

    can you make an updated video on this please? Facebook appears to have changed requirements for verifying a pixel, you're now forced to input the pixel code manually or use a partner.

      You can just close that window, and then the main window has the Pixel ID which you can copy and paste into your landing page service. Make sure to follow the IOS14 rules as well, covered in other more recent videos.

      You have to force some data onto the pixel by putting the ID on a site. Then you go into business settings and verify your domain, add conversions in events manager etc.

    Hey Andrew, thanks for a great tutorial. Can you tell me why when creating a custom conversion and using 'View Content' (as I am using ToneDen) as my Conversion Event, I am being forced to use a 'Rule'. If I try to hit the 'X' and close the 'Rule' as you did, it doesn't close. It also opens with the 'Rules' section already open, whereas for you, the rule section was closed, so to speak. Looking forward to hearing from you!

      Hey guys. Super late comment I know. I had the same issue. I just put my rule as URL does not contain the key word "chococochcohcochcohc". Essentially just a random word that I know definitely won't be in my url

    What should I do if my smartlinks aren't showing in the 'custom events' section when trying to create a custom conversion? I've refreshed, left it overnight, and tried different browsers. No matter what I try my links aren't showing in the 'custom events' section. The links are all tested and working perfectly well in events manager but still no luck! Help!

      Just in case you haven't gotten an answer yet, no. You set up the pixel once and you are good to go. I would get a different pixel if you are advertising for two different projects. The pixel/ad account kinda learns who your audience is so if you are advertising for a metal band and a lo-fi beat project on the same pixel it will have a hard time figuring who to target.

    I've copied the FB pixel but there is a red error mark that reads Your pixel hasn't received any activity.
    This can happen when the pixel base code isn't installed correctly on your website. Finish the pixel installation on your website, including adding events, to start seeing activity.

      If you're sure you put the Pixel on the page, make sure you turn off any ad blocking extensions in Google Chrome. You could also try triggering the link by sending it to your phone, or other people.

      It does but you can’t set up custom domains on it which means you can’t use iOS 14 domain level tracking.

      Unfortunately all you can do is appeal and wait. If you contact support and ask, they'll just tell you to please wait more and that they can't do anything about it. But make sure you have that appeal submitted, you probably had to do it when you uploaded your ID.

      Nope! This is a once time setup, aside from copying your Pixel ID onto every landing page you make.

    Would you be able to make a specific video for custom conversions for featureFM? Since it’s required to use a pixel on Facebook business account, it seems to complete the pixel setup on Facebook you have to put code into the header of your website, but I don’t think you can do that on featureFM or just your purchased domain. Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thank you!

    Tried exactly same but now on Facebook the rule field is mandatory and this custom event always not triggered and inactive. Tried with hypeddit, all domain is verified and normal events are triggering correct…

    At 6:00 minutes in your video you receive that error saying you've already used that custom conversion. I'm getting that too, but I have different Hypeddit's for different songs. I guess each landing page doesn't have different conversions? In other words, it's all the same action/click regardless of the song/hypeddit I'm sending them to? You don't have to create separate custom conversions for each song landing page? Just trying to understand that part. Thanks!

      You can keep using the same custom conversion for each song, as long as you didn't specify a unique URL/Parameter in the conversion. You COULD make a unique custom conversion for each song, but theirs no real need to. I just use the same one for every song.

    Question:
    I created two different links (2 different songs) with Hypeddit. The first one went as you showed but when working with second one, it shows in "Test events" automatically the name of the former conversion I created. The link itself works, it leads to a right song, shows a right time stamp but in Test events it shows the name of the earlier custom conversion.
    If I now create another Custom conversion... how can I be sure that it actually applies for the right link and not for the link I used in the first custom conversion?

      So I think i'm understanding your question correctly... basically you can use the same custom conversion for every song. Facebook tracks the URL they send people to and what URL fires the conversion event, this is how they know which campaign caused which result.

Question though (and this may illustrate a glaring gap in my understanding)-- whats the difference/benefit of running conversion objective vs just traffic to an autoplay spotify link? The hypeddit click just a play and not an auto follow, right?

      The difference between traffic and conversion is how FB identifies the intent of whoever is engaging with your ad: traffic optimisation means people (based on their FB activity) who are most likely to click a link (could be by accident or with very low intent), whereas conversion captures people who are most likely to make an action beyond just clicking a link (which in this context would be view content). Hope this helps!

    my event manager is empty so i don't have a pixel code to pick. is there a step i'm missing?

      If you don’t have a pixel there there is probably an option to create a pixel. Once you make it you can skip the setup and you’ll get to the place where you can copy the number.

    *Question about your course Andrew!* Should I buy your course to get a solution on the following very niche nitty gritty issue?: My test events don't work, even though the pixel events are firing according to the pixel helper extension and the Hypeddit Smart Link Visit/Click events show in the Pixel/Conversions API panel on the Overview page. Facebook and Hypeddit support haven't helped solve this. I'd pay for a consultation with you but you're not available before my release on 25 march! I've followed the instructions on your videos and elsewhere online but no luck. So would there be trouble shooting support to get to the bottom of this if I join your course?     Great video! I often have 100+ clicks on my smart link before I even start the conversion campaign (there are 0 clicks to Spotify). Is that normal?

      Thanks! Before you start the conversion campaign? Unless you're sharing it publicly somewhere you shouldn't have any page views on it aside from your own.

      Same. I just typed in "Hypeddit" for the rule. It looks like everything is probably working fine? Although I'm getting more Link Clicks on Hypeddit's side than on Meta's side. Last 7 days on Meta Ads Manager I have 49 Hypeddit Smart Link Clicks but on Hypeddit's Side I have 58. Idk if that's an error or something @@jdturner

    Hey, I was watching one of your older videos where you used a Spotify Logo in the Video ad to show the audience that they will listen to it on Spotify. Could it be that this now violates the Facebook-Ad-Guidelines since my ad account got deactivated and this is the only reason I can come up with since one Guideline is: "No use of a play button, etc that is not clickable". A spotify logo in the video could explain this. Have you had any troubles with this in the past? Thanks!

    You just earned yourself a new subscriber! I have an issue: in my case, I wish to track every click I get from spotify link after someone lands on my toneden page.
    HOWEVER, it doesn't appear as a click (with the tag logo). The event comes out as "View Content”.
    Does it matter? Since page view of spotify= someone clicking on spotify? I checked the parameters and it says "content_category: stream"

      For ToneDen 'ViewContent' is the conversion event that represents a click to Spotify or any other music service. If you wanted to customize this further to specifically track Spotify and not any other service you could make a custom conversion that uses ViewContent but uses the ContentName Parameter for 'spotify'.

      Honestly i'm not 100% sure, their language kind of implies that but sometimes i've been able to launch a campaign using it immediately and other times we had to wait the 72 hours.

    Forgive my confusion lol. So if I'm running multiple campaigns to multiple hypeddit landing pages but I'm still only seeing ONE hypeddit smart link click conversion, will this work for all of the landing pages? Or will I need a specific conversion event for each landing page? Thanks so much!!

      You can use the same Hypeddit conversion event or custom conversion for every single Hypeddit landing page you have. You can even have multiple campaigns running with different Hypeddit links using the same Hypeddit conversion event and it will work fine.
      Facebook tracks the ad ID everyone comes from so there is no confusion between the links or campaigns.

    Hi Andrew, I use CD Baby as my distributor and when I release a song or an album, they automatically make a page similar to the one on Hypeddit on a website called HearNow. Will that work as well for Facebook pixel? Do you have any idea about this?

    Been going at it all day and finally close to getting it i think... I got through everything in this video and the ios14 one.
    Now when i am making my ad and setting the conversion event, I pick the custom conversion event we created, and i get this error "This event hasn’t been prioritized for iOS 14.5. Ad sets using this event may not be delivered to people who opt out of tracking on iOS 14.5 or later devices."
    Is this just bc i didn't wait the 72 hours?

      It sounds like you didn’t go to aggregated event measurement and assign your event to your domain. That’s where I would start.

    This is giving me a headache. I set up a facebook pixel and when I try to run an ad campaign and use that pixel. It says its inactive. I don't know how can I use it 😅
