Love the fact you drive these trucks untested just go for it thats what its all about. Nothing better than cruising these old Chevy trucks state to state.
I was gonna guess about 8mpg. My 88 454tbi, th400 with 4.56 gear gets about 8 empty and about 6.5 with my 5th wheel. Empty I can run about 210 temp at 70. But loaded it likes 60-65 to stay around 210-220.
when you said do you have a number i said its 8 and a quart of oil mine always used to get 8 loaded or empty didn't seem to matter and a quart of oil. i used to have an elcamino and it smoked like a freight train but ran great, my buddies would say your junk is smoking. i would just shrug and say it's not out of oil.

At 18 I learned to drive on my dads 1964 GMC 1/2 ton, 3 on the column. Later in life I owned a 1980 Chevy 3/4 ton Scottsdale.

Check your pcv valve and hose. If they are stopped up you are going to push oil past your valve cover gaskets.

Turbo 400 with that three speed average about 55 to 65 max, you can run an over drive unit separately and comfortabley run 70 mph
