Yeeeehaw, what a trip!
Sweet truck😎👍
mannn tripasauraus
Don't put rubberized undercoat on the truck. It locks in a lot of moisture in between the frame and actual undercoating and makes your truck rust even quicker. My suggestion to you is to bedline the under-carrage or just use fluid film and coat the underside of the truck every year or two.
Gotta love the gmt-600 body style Chevys I had 3 of them and loved them!
How should set your RUclips handle to something easier to remember.
Just get Waldo to fluid film it every November. She'll go another 20 years without fuss if you keep up with her. What a great truck!
Try some pb blaster surface shield, I think it's pretty decent compared to the stinky fluid film
I daily drive an 88 c1500 I love it and I know it’ll outlast me
@@M.TTT. pb doesn’t hold up as well
@@HODMEChannel ehhhhh idk, I'd have to see testing again, but it does well on my truck. Fluid film did seem to be runny at first, but then harden a little more maybe
@@M.TTT. yeah I use fluid film I have a buddy I helped put the surface shield on we are going to see how the trucks compare after an upstate ny winter. Either one is better than nothing up here in the north
Excellent cross country run. My 16 yr old Son bought exact truck just over a year ago. It didn’t drive and puffed stinky white smoke. He fixed lots and has been his daily for a year now. We are amazing you made it without issue.
I don’t understand how this dude doesn’t have more subscribers. I enjoy this guy’s content. Merry Christmas Waldo.
Thank you and merry Christmas!
seriously, minimal yeehaw. just a dude making stuff happen.
@@electrontube he’s a pretty entertaining dude to watch. I happen to like Hungarian Vizsla’s, (his dog Aspen).
very easy to understand why he does not.
@@ACommenterOnRUclips elaborate.
Your comment about Motel 6 being the cheapest place you ever stayed made me laugh. My wife and I drove cross country and stayed at Motel 6 every night because we had our mini pig with us(actually made the trip to get her spayed) and Motel 6 has a very lenient pet policy. Every one was very clean and had very nice staff. One of the best motel experiences I’ve had.
Driving cross country to spay a pig seems pointless. There are vets in every state. Also, why spay a pig?
@HenryScored cockroaches*
@HenryScored with regard to the stigma you mentioned, never heard of it. Grew up in a major tourist area with many hotels and the national chains like Motel 6 were generally all similarly clean and safe if mundane and budget-friendly. The only lasting idea of Motel 6 I've ever had is their Tom Bodett commercials where he said they'd "leave the light on for ya."
Super 8 also allows pets
Only bad experience I've had in a Motel 6 was because the previous guest smoked in the room when they shouldn't have. It was the one in Fife, WA right outside Seattle. Other than that, no complaints.
Beautiful truck! I drive a ‘93 C1500 with 218K miles and has served me well with no rust since I live in the south. Awesome video as always.
Nice seeing two great youtubers doing a collab!😊👍
I love these trucks. Swap on the 3/4 ton calipers, get the 0411 ECU, electric fans, and the fuel injection upgrade kit that replaces the factory poppet valve injectors.
Please tell me more about these parts! I've got a '99 K2500 Suburban that needs some fuel injection love, and what does the ECU change do for you?
I love the silver-blue of that generation C/K pickup. My uncle had a '93 model year single-cab.
Also, the pupper was very glad to see you. Always nice to come home to your pets after a long trip.
That truck's a beauty and so well kept. Love the color too. That's my favorite generation of Chevy/GMC trucks. I want to get a 97 extended or crew cab with 4WD.
98 has variable power steering like a modern truck and a little better tune on the engine. It feels a bit more sporty and GM tends to get things right in their last model years.
Driving coast to coast I always enjoy upstate NY. I used to haul loads for Starbucks / Green Mountian Coffee out of VT. Just something about the New England area is always beautiful.
Get KBS coating for anything you can see and then put Cor Ban 35 on it(used in aircraft corrosion prevention). After that you'll be set and never see rust again.
Wow, that truck is like a time capsule! So mint! Looks like a super fun road trip and I'm glad you guys didn't run into bad weather! I'll have to keep an eye on out on ARV's channel to see what he ends up doing with the new to him Chevy!
Coming from Minnesota, I'm with ARV as a seasoned winter driver. My approach on slippery roads is to pay attention to how my truck is handling, leave lots of following distance and no sudden moves when turning or braking.
Enjoyable entertaining content as always! Beautiful truck as well. Merry Christmas!
Merry Christmas!
I must say, the production value on your channel is TV show quality. The shots of Seattle made me homesick as I just moved away from the Northwest this year. You've definitely earned a subscriber, keep up the good work!
Good stuff, I enjoy your videos. I've got a 96 k1500 my grandpa helped me buy new when I was 16. I drive it every day and it's at 351,000 miles.Hope you and yours have a merry Christmas.
Thanks, you too!
Being in the US and Canada six times (relatives in TX and BC) I'd really injoy to cross the country to experience the vastness.
Once we traveled from Houston, TX to Florida. Somewhere in the Mississippi delta I took over the steering wheel after fueling. Travelling on cruise control we soaked up the landscape and I watched the fuel gauge to drop. Wait! What? Didn't we just fuel up?! Yea, 300 miles ago...🤪
The way you structure your videos and the calm voiceover keeps me coming back. I hope your RUclips journey treats you well. Happy new year?
Drove a truck for 28 yrs ....dont miss them road trips ....the only one i look forward to is driving 5 hours from my house in N Ga up to Durham Nc to our daughters house. Glad you had a safe trip have a happy new year
I absolutely love road trips, but they can be exhausting, especially for the driver. I love the scenery on that part of the country. We were actually in Seattle at the end of May and went on an Alaska cruise. Nice video as always, Waldo!! 👌
Great video! I've driven that route from Seattle to PDX, Boise, SLC, Evanston, Cheyenne, etc... several times. The drive can be pretty challenging in the winter, especially between Rock Springs & Rawlins Wyoming. Thanks for sharing your road trip!
Can confirm, that stretch of road is horrible. I can't count the amount of wrecks that happen there, but it doesn't help that this year the DOT here is HIGHLY understaffed..... and the wind just kept blowing away any sand/salt they try to put down.
That truck is beautiful. I love it. I'm not even mad it's being used. I'd daily drive that thing.
cool truck! Undercoating actually promotes rust, you should look into fluid film treatment. It will actually prevent rust.
I agree about Illinois. We use to joke and say welcome to the Soviet Republic of Illinois
Take it to Carara’s Rustproofing in Shrewsberry VT! I have a rust free 94 dodge ram that they have hot oiled every year.
I love the content man I’m happy to see your yt is growing so much
Thank you!
What a truck, nice find. Shout out to all the state road crews keeping the highways passable
That is a beautiful 26 year old pickup. What a gem of a find. Merry Christmas.
Aspen's little tail wagging so fast was adorable haha
Its his money and he can use the truck however he wants.
Thanks for the ride along enjoyed seeing the snow! But it's cold here in Florida with no snow! Happy holidays
As a 6th generation native Iowan I appreciate the kind words about our beautiful state!
As a Canadian I'm looking at those dry, clean, glass smooth roads and just envious as all hell. I miss interstate driving, some American folks don't realize how great your highways are.
It always shocks me when I go to Canada, we live 15 miles south of the border so it's not a geographic thing. Roads literally turn to hell at the border haha
That truck is too nice to use for a daily driver. That thing needs to be preserved for Sunday driving and parades.
Thanks for an early Christmas gift Waldo! 💕 🎄 🎬🎥
11:34 “watch out for this swift truck” 😂😂
I just restored my original 1992 GMT - 400. I definitely understand why he wants to use the every day truck. These are absolutely the work horses of the Chevy line compared to anything that’s come after. And I say that because I also have a 2003 Z 71 and a 2010 Z 71.
Wooooo yeah more OBS chevy stuff. Saw this on IG and was hoping the video would come out soon. 👍🏻
The grandpa running boards help a lot with helping stop salt from reaching the rocker panels
4:57 that's a beautiful shot.
That was fun, always love a good road trip. Driving through the mountains in winter is no joke. I have lived in MT and ID for 32 of my 52 years, and still get surprised by the road conditions at times. I have a similar truck that I bought 6 years ago with under 50K on the odo. I love it.
One piece of advice with reviving these low mileage trucks. You probably already know about the GM fuel pump issue where it is cooled by fuel so it's best to not let the tank get below 1/2 or so.
But, I was in the middle of a 3K mile road trip with mine when I started experiencing a stumble under load. Long story short, I was having fuel pressure issues caused by a split in the 3" long chunk of rubber fuel hose that connects the pump to the metal lines exiting the tank. This took a long time and much head scratching to figure out. With age and modern fuel blends, that hose had swollen, hardened and split. The earlier trucks (mine is a 91) had no fuel pressure test port or OBD, so I took a gamble and pulled the fuel pump. New pump and MODERN hose chunk installed and the problem was gone. Didn't really need the new pump, but it was relatively cheap, and I did not want to do that swap again anytime soon.
I owned a 96 and 98’ 1500 both with the 5.7. Mechanics dream truck. Parts availability is high at junk yards and auto parts stores. Very reliable if you don’t get rough with the transmission. Easy to work on a lot of room under the hood. Fuel injection system give the 94-98s better power and reliability than the carbureted 88-93 trucks (look for the chrome side mirrors to know the difference from a glance). I know a Native American man that works as a train mechanic. He travels all over the country for his work in a 96 with 5.0 and manual transmission. The truck looks pretty good for a truck with 3,000,000 miles on it. (Yes he’s had to replace major components over the years.) it has some big dents and paint is wind sanded off.
very nice of you to take that pete davidson/jay baruchal lookalike with you
Waldo, great video and truck. Glad it was a safe trip back home, Love the pups at the end. Merry Christmas to Waldo and his family. Love Ya'll bunches.
Thanks! Merry Christmas!
About to do almost the same trip in a 23-year-old Toyota minivan (Same route, just starting in Utah) and I am pumped to see your trip! Thanks for posting! Hopefully my trip goes as smooth as yours!
Wow that truck is a museum piece.
you should consider oiling it periodically instead of undercoating, my understanding is undercoat can trap the rust in and do more harm.
What a guided trip of America. 3000k miles? Thats 3 times the length of UK. 60 k truck, previous owner should be proud of the care and attention spent on the truck. What a welcome home. happy Doggies. Thanks for the vid ..Later
Love me a road trip, even vicariously.
Great video, Waldo!
All the best from northwest Georgia.
It’s the wind of the open plains blowing you sideways on the ice that gets ya!
You had it right the first time. It's Or-E-Gun. NOT Or-E-Gone.
Merry Christmas Waldo from across the pond. Keep up the great channel! 🎅🇬🇧
Waldo, I literally get excited everytime I see you have uploaded a video!!!
Have been binge watching ur vids last couple weeks love the flatbed builds ur doing what I always wanted to do great work Waldo
Never too late to start chasing your dreams
Noooo, not undercoat (if we're talking bed liner/rubberized undercoat). Use something like fluid film.. or even used motor oil (although that one has its environmental issues).
Aside from that. One of these days I want to make a family tip out west. All the pictures/videos I see, its beautiful out there.
Yeah, fluid film (or similar) is what we meant by undercoating 👍
Great content delivered on Christmas eve. Thanks again!
Merry Christmas to you too. Thanks for all your videos this year and looking forward to more of the same in 2023.
Waldo simply best in his explanations what he is doing step by step. Where every process he undertakes is understandable even for non mechanical inclined people. Job well done Waldo. Kept up the great work. Favorite project was your flatbed bed rebuild. This truck is one of GM best ever made . What’s known as hard to kill. Won’t be disappointed once you get her back home! Had a GMC 1995 2500 Suburban and a Toyota 1989 4Runner Both are still running strong. Amazing what consistent maintenance will do for a vehicles longevity with 7k oil changes. Dont forget to change out your transfer case fluids they get neglected so often been my experience. Great find kept up the great work.
Your explanations are second to none.
Smartest thing you ever said watch out for that swift truck
stevie wonder institute for trucking ;)
So cool to see you start off in my hometown!
Considering Waldo thought Froot Loops were cheerios says he’s color blind
Good buy you bought that horse you ride that horse brother 🎉
You were not overpacked. Remember Murphys Law. If you didn't bring it, you sure would need it.
That moment when you and your friends are watching RUclips and your friend puts on this video and all of a sudden your own weather hit pops up.
A very good road trip in the winter.
This was a fun trek Waldo. What a great truck. ARV was lucky to have ya agree to go along. I luv'd all the scenery B roll.
Old crappy thick black diesel engine oil is the best undercoating you can get.
beautiful truck-a treasure
!
Really hope you guys enjoyed Seattle and the rest of Washington, I always love seeing people visit. You guys thankfully missed the storm that we got hit by, it got pretty bad.
As a rule, I won’t subscribe to auto RUclipsrs who don’t wear seatbelts, not cool
Good truck. Cute how you pronounce Oregon like ORA GONE. 🤣
I recently went to the PNW for the first time.. I could not beleive how rust free the vehicles are there to be so far north... They dont salt the roads.
6:16 beautiful view of the road and sunrise behind the mountains
I own one just like it with two exceptions. 1. Mine is a K2500 2. Mine is white.
It spent the majority of its life out in Arizona and has been in my possession since 2012. As far as I know it’s never seen road salt. The seats are probably the most comfortable of any car or truck that I have owned. Parts are relatively cheap and it’s a simple truck to repair. 14mpg is about as good as it gets in the K1500s. A C1500 with the same engine can get as high as 17mpg.
I get the feeling you enjoy having the winters off?. Your content is great for guys like me. I enjoy it and have learned a thing or two.
Beautiful truck.
Commenting for support!
Pretty cool to see all the mountain passes in the north western united states, that I drive through all the time.
Unbelievable. Just right on the road for 3k mile trip for 20+ old truck. Super!
I drove my 14 sierra with my wife and son right through the Dakotas, Wyoming and Montana in November as the snow and ice hit. Didn't stop me. Made it interesting
Nice to see a northeastern collaboration!!
These old gm trucks are awesome in the snow.
Beautiful Truck, If people hate on you for using the truck as a daily driver just tell them it is for sale and triple the price you paid, That will stop the comments, thanks for sharing
I didn’t watch the video. Just wanted to comment that of course it will. One of the most reliable trucks ever made.
I bought a 1994 Chevy suburban Silverado 4WD brand new. Today I still have it and it has 157K miles. It still looks good and runs good. I'm often asked to sell it but it is just too handy to have.
I would drive that truck across the world 900 times and I bet it still runs just fine. One of the best trucks ever made
I liked the outtakes at the end, RUclipsrs don’t do that very much. 👍🏻😎
I drove I-80 with a friend in 1976, in the early summer. Nebraska was boring then, and covered in corn; we drove non-stop from Palo Alto to Chicago (taking turns sleeping, sometimes while not driving). My wife lived in Omaha at the time, but she was 15 at the time, and we didn't meet for 7 years. A couple of years later, a friend of mine drove from Palo Alto to his soon-to-be-in-laws house non-stop, by himself. Took him 66 hours, and I never heard what he thought of Nebraska; he was hallucinating a little, from lack of sleep and a diet of Mountain Dew and chocolate, by the time he got there.
Merry Christmas, Waldo. Nice truck, looked like a fun trip. Thanks for the video!
Man just loves sitting in cars and staying days out on road 😂
Great trip and nice to see Aspen again in the end!
🤣👍👍👍
When you spun right around. The song in my head was. Just some good ole boys, never meaning no harm.
I lived in Laramie WY for two year for trade school in 02/03, the wind are not a joke up there neither is the snow.
I'm glad you dodged all the weather blowing around recently!
Verified grandpa here. That is a sweet looking truck.
I follow the Rural Vermonter. That there is a gorgeous truck. My favorite bodystyle of Chevy truck. Great buy.
That truck looks like a gem.
Hello from the Netherlands .
Merry Christmas 🎄 and a Happy New Year
thanks for the video Waldo.
Sincerely, Hollandduck
damnnn spun out
Merry Christmas. Nice truck. He got lucky finding that one. Glad you had a good trip.
You and ARV need to take a trip to Florida in the winter next time. Find an 'old farts' car with low miles, in good shape and low miles and bring it back to VT.
Anyone else waiting for Steppenwolf to starting playing?
