I live in Bakersfield in the hood. I hear gun shots almost every night. Its rare when you don’t. And a man was shot and killed next my house within 5 months of us moving in back in 2012. Where’s my protection. My family’s safety? I use to come from school around 5 when it gets dark and i would sprint home. I would be texting my parents from work that i am okay while SPRINTING HOME. I want to be able to walk home calmly without worrying my dad or mom who are at work. I want to be able to walk my streets without having to be paranoid. When my sister or brother leave i want to know they are fine. Change needs to happen.
I have chills. We support you all over the world. Nothing justifies violence and no one deserves something like this to happen to them. Respect you for standing up for yourself and for America.
No matter what side of the debate of gun control you affiliate yourself, there's a few bits of common ground. One huge swath of which is the domino effect caused by negligence and failure to follow through with clear issues and obvious threats indicated by Nikolas Cruz prior to the Parkland Shooting. There's nearly universal agreement that issues regarding his history of behavior and mental illness should have kept firearms out of his hands, if only the authorities had applied existing laws and restrictions (even if David Hogg prefers to downplay these contributing factors by the local authorities). Yet there are folks in Florida and elsewhere with a lack of foresight that would initiate a repeat of the circumstances. I cite this because of the parallels, and it's representative of the ongoing problems and perceptions involved. Roughly a year ago, student John Benjamin Haygood was picked up at his school for an outstanding warrant that his family actually is confirmed as having known about. Police were critisized for arresting him but actually did a thoughtful job of not allowing he or his mother to draw them into a confrontation or power play that would exacerbate matters. JB is mentally disabled. While his mother missed a determination hearing, he is considered to be autistic, and his behavior is characteristic of an Oppositional Defiant Disorder and a Conduct disorder. His arrest stems from 55 noted incidents of aggression at his school. Including stabbing another student, breaking an aides toes with the steel toed boots mommy bought him, and then when she returned, still healing, he broke the same toes again, and many other acts of targeted violence. In addition tthere's reports of him setting a fire at his home. Twice the boy has threatened to return to the school with a gun to shoot people dead. Again, TWICE THE BOY HAS THREATENED TO RETURN TO THE SCHOOL WITH A GUN TO SHOOT PEOPLE DEAD. He is charged with 5 felonies. Yet the video the mother shot of the arrest, recorded only after her first going to the principal's office to confirm the warrant was still outstanding (according to her own interview and the police report), would have you believe that JB is the victim. Yet despite 5 well earned felony charges and clear threats, folks are all too ready to protest and sign petitions that there should be no legal repercussions, and he shouldn't have been arrested because he is a 11 year old boy with a mental illness. This regardless of two threats to return to the school to shoot people dead and a clear documented history of violence not consistent with simple autistic meltdowns. The truth of the matter is that in order to keep firearms out of his hands in the future, in part because of his mental illness and specific symptoms, adjudication needs to take place. This regardless of the matter of what a judge may deem as an appropriate response to his crimes, be it simply that additional supports and oversight need to be in place for safety, or juvenile detention (which is likely only prior to arraignment and assessment). Particularly if he is determined incompetent to stand trial, this by means of the adjudication will bar him from possessing firearms, and needs to take place. That's the way the system ideally works. His mother, seeing Nancy Lanza as a role model apparently, is fighting professional recommendations of a placement with more appropriate levels of oversight and intervention, as well as the adjudication. However, as might be considered typical, if you scroll through the family's social media you'll come across a great deal of racist and white supremacist content. A prime example being on his brother Avery's account that also has acknowledgements and photos from their mother Luanne. He says: "Avery Haygood September 20, 2016 · I was fortunate enough at work today and able to pay for and serve Mr. Daniel carver and his family! Too bad I was to concentrated on my first impression (which I I did ) to ask for an autograph. Oh well. It still will always be a day Ill remember!" In case you don't know who Daniel Carver is, he is a White Nationalist and former Grand Dragon of the Ku Klux Klan. So, what we've essentially got here is an individual who is mentally ill, exposed to and linked with white supremacist ideology, and threatening to shoot up a school; and there are folks fighting that he shouldn't have been arrested, charged with felonies, or stand before a judge. All of which are important in that they act to assure we keep guns out of his hands in the future. Yet many of the details leading to the arrest don't accompany the viral video, and some people don't consider crucial aspects of existing laws as preventative rather than simply punitive in nature. The boy is not simply mentally disabled, but a product of his environment. All of which together spells a future potential threat that's already twice expressed their intent to shoot up a school. We need to fully enforce those laws and regulations in place to keep firearms out of the hands of those that have made it abundantly clear they are a threat. This is just one case, with too many similarities to mistakes that we've otherwise seen standout in hindsight, that some folks would just as soon see slip through the cracks again without your attention to the details. The laws certainly won't work if they're not enforced.

@@Saoirse_don_Phalaistín No, it's not reasonable. It skews the information in a biased way, doesn't give the full picture to satisfy a specific agenda. I don't consider that to be very American. No one said anything about conspiracy theories or personal attacks. Read my comment again..

Barbie Chicken guns do NOT save more people than they do kill. As teenagers, we shouldn’t feel scared to go to school everyday with the possibility of being murdered. It’s ridiculous.
Miranda hahahahahah you DO NOT do your research. Research is for smart people and clearly you do not do research because statistics have shown that guns have saved around 800,000-1,000,000 people. Barbie Chicken from the research I have looked into, it showed the opposite. So I apologize for being bias. However, I do want to say that we cannot deny America’s MAJOR gun problem. Just today there was another school shooting in Colorado. I don’t know how you could support guns when they truly aren’t necessary, in my opinion. Guns are dangerous, and should not be in the hands of civilians.
Miranda you can say that but look what happened to countries that were taken over by The tyrannical governments. Japan has even said they do not want to try to take over the US since the citizens are armed. Guns are completely necessary because it is how lives are saved and how the early people got lots of their food. If you want to discuss this more I can gladly give you my Instagram to discuss this more deeply.

David should definitely be awarded an Oscar ! He is so good in his role
He says:
"Avery Haygood September 20, 2016 ·
I was fortunate enough at work today and able to pay for and serve Mr. Daniel carver and his family! Too bad I was to concentrated on my first impression (which I I did ) to ask for an autograph. Oh well. It still will always be a day Ill remember!"
In case you don't know who Daniel Carver is, he is a White Nationalist and former Grand Dragon of the Ku Klux Klan.
All responsible gun owners should blame nikolas cruz
you can tell when comments are edited when literally 99 percent of them share the same view. wow
Richard Kash is it not reasonable to filter out comments that make up blatant lies about him in order to harass and abuse him?
You can have your opinion on him, but why the need for all the conspiracy theories and personal attacks ?
@@Saoirse_don_Phalaistín No, it's not reasonable. It skews the information in a biased way, doesn't give the full picture to satisfy a specific agenda. I don't consider that to be very American.
No one said anything about conspiracy theories or personal attacks. Read my comment again..
@@ShockwaveZero Then genuinely, please do offer your view that is opposing this narrative and contrary to the boy's IDEAS without bringing ad hominem attacks or slander.
@@ShockwaveZero While it certainly is unreasonable to filter out comments that oppose the narrative of this story, it is definitely reasonable to still filter out ones that just attack him and make up lies about him. Surely, a bunch of people commenting stuff that is blatantly false about him and just personal attacks is skewing the information about the story, no?
@UCJSAzqJjvId-xPc2tK8TxBA I never said that you slandered or attacked the boy. I meant that I haven't come across a single viewpoint opposing this narrative that didn't involve slander or abuse towards the boy.

Tiffany Blair a voice for taking away guns that protect lives? Thank you?? Guns save lives idc who says it’s the gun’s fault but it’s not. Sure have better background checks... but taking guns away is not the solution.
Guns have killed 10,982 people in 2017 EXACTLY. I will even leave the link if you don’t believe me because you have only been raised by the left and do not understand the purpose of firearms. ucr.fbi.gov/crime-in-the-u.s/2017/crime-in-the-u.s.-2017/tables/expanded-homicide-data-table-11.xls

Gemma Niye just being normal. If I was in the same situation and said that we need more arms to protect the school and more mental health specialists i would be ostracized. There is nothing noble about complaining on tv about a world with no guns. The us will always have them. Get over it.
David is lying through his teeth. He initially told the story that he was home, heard about the gunfire happening, hopped on his bike and went BACK to the school. He is on video saying that originally. This kid glows in the dark.

Beautifully well spoken young people. I'm so grateful they're given a spotlight for this. In Europe, we see guns as a privilege, not a right. We don't have school shootings. We also don't make a lot of money for the NRA and gun manufacturers. America needs to change, they need to start protecting their children and citizens.
