Traditional Reservist and ROTC Cadet here, the route I went while technically easy(speaking from a point in the process where most of the headache inducing paperwork is behind me) is incredibly uncommon, pretty much unheard of, and you're lucky if even a few people around your unit know both of the process itself, and how it works.
At the end of the day, its a lot of routing paperwork between whatever Detachment staff you're looking to enroll in for ROTC, your Reserves Unit Leadership, as well the school you plan on attending itself.
Yes, colleges and the ROTC can be very selective/competitive, but in my opinion, if you've comfortably made it into the Air Force, getting through the next few doors is pretty easy, especially since most of the application process is self-service and honestly just a matter showing face. (At least for me)
Its a great a idea for those willing to have gap between High School and college to complete basic and tech school, even better if you utilize your Montgomery GI bill with one of the applicable AFSC's for Kickstarter. You can also apply for ResTA, not to be confused for MilTA. 9/11 GI Bill won't be much help for those planning to only jump through the training pipeline and don't intend to get some Active Duty equivalent orders under their belt.
Its a guaranteed part-time job that helps a lot more than most think, giving you several connections and opportunities to develop on practically three separate parts of career and life- as a cadet, as a full-time student, and as an enlisted airman.
If you know what you're getting into, the process is simple, after BMT and tech school, you'll be attending college with most, if not all your tuition costs covered, needing minimum a part-time job to cover other, smaller basic fees if you don't have any grants or saved funds at your disposal. Made my life a whole lot less stressful when you don't have to worry about money.

How does the Post GI 911 Bill work if I palace chase after 30 months? Would the housing rate for E-5 be 90%?Do I also get the Montgomery GI Bill? Also, does the reserve pitch in any extra money on top of the tuition?
My daughter is a Reservist (in Indiana although we live in Illinois). She is looking to get the Post 9/11 GI to pay for school and rent. She now takes advantage of her TA. She also is in nursing school and has an internship. She can't go full time because of nursing school and they have clinicals. She also does her internship full time when she is not in school and doesn't want to lose it if she goes full time over the summer. Question is: Do her drill weekends and two week annual count toward whatever amount of time she has to put in, in order to get her Post 9/11 GI bill? Any suggestions would be appreciated. How easy is it to get on orders. I am a reservist at Travis Air Force base in the cyber field.
Right now it's hard to get on orders as a TR due to funding...at least with us. However there are still opportunities for orders that we've gotten due to AD needing help somewhere.
Can you use montgomery Gi bill simultaneously with TA? Also at what point does the MGIB become 100%? Is it 6, maybe I missed it. I'm about to hit my 4 year mark so just curious.

I was wondering if Air Force Reserve will pay for my tuition at Columbia which will be around $50k per year.
