Airman Vision sat down with TSgt Andre Acosta of the California Air National Guard to answer some questions that you guys have asked when we asked for questions pertaining to pay in the Air National Guard and benefits in the Air National Guard. The Air National Guard is also referred to as the Air Guard at times too. We asked Technical Sergeant Acosta several questions that range from how much do you get paid in the Air National Guard and what is the healthcare like in the Air Guard?

Important note about Healthcare and the guard not covered here...if you are in technician status, or if you are a federal employee of any type (DHS, DOJ, DOS, DOT ETC) even if it has nothing to do with the guard, you MUST purchase your health insurance through FEHB, you are not eligible for Tricare Reserve Select (TRS). It is one of the three disqualifiers listed on the TRS website. I also can tell you from experience. Full time I'm a DHS employee, and am a traditional guardsman...but I'm not eligible for TRS because I'm eligible to purchase Healthcare through FEHB (as all federal employees are.)
That’s good to know! Thanks for the information!
I am in the guard and have TRS.
@@skylrshepherd9847 yes, but are you also a federal government employee eligible for FEHB?
Is that apply to State employees
@@MichaelCorleone365 no just federal.
Went in late in life, joined at 30 for active duty. Wild experience going in older. Happy to share my experiences. Currently 2W171 (weapons) and transferring from active duty to guard. You helped out a lot by your videos. Keep on!
Getting out of the Marine Corps and I’m looking at going ANG, definitely gonna contact a recruiter now
Awesome video, and thank you for sharing this. I'm going to show it to my friends
The Technician program keeps a lot of people in the Guard well beyond 20 years
Hi there, great info. I am not sure but do you guys have a video on prior service (Army National Guard) and re enlisting? I want to join the ANG after I graduate from college before my 39th birthday. Again, thanks for the great advice and information.
I've a Question for the TSgt, to clarify below. I worked admin in ANG Finance Office 6 yrs (+2 yrs Inactive Reserve). Many Guardsman ask supv/commanders 4 "extra" home station duty svs days or temp f/t duty orders for a few weeks or months, not only 4 immed income, but also 4 more point credits toward the annual point credit printout (listing state activation days, temp AGR days, extra Inactive & deployed duty days, plus AF additional cross-training duty on Title 10/Title 32 orders). From this ANG Recruiter I think I'm learning more Guardsman financial benefits who honorably did their 6, 8 or whatever # yrs of service in ANG are entitled to a lower-than-active retirement check after 50 or 60? With annual point summaries of various extra duty days/TDYs/training days/deployment days will become eligible for a retirement finance benefit, just at a much lower amount than Active AF or full-time AGRs, at like 50/60 yrs of of age. Is that correct?? Im always learning...will the TSgt correct me if I'm mistaken, or if I'm correctly stating what he said? Thx. That would help. (Kyle, ANG also has low cost SGLI-life insurance, if we leave ANG we have to still pay premium, poss higher to keep keep $250 or $500k policies). AlsoIn Illinois ANG, our Montgomery GI Bill covered us for 4 yrs of in-state univ tuition immediately after BMT/Tech Tng was done in initial Title 10 status.)
Thank you for mentioning the ANG. I am planning on going in fairly soon currently talking with my recruiter.
Hey man how’s the recruitment going?
Any update?
@@russsellsrealestate1157 I joined the ANG went through BMT and at tech school now.
@@americancanuck9790how was it I’m thinking about going
So I got a question if I were to join the air guard as a pilot say for example f22. I'm guessing I will be working more then 1 weekend a month? What would I air force work month to month look like?.
Hey Kyle can you get an Air National Guard or Air Force Reserve special warfare airman PJ, CCT, SR, or TACP to come on and explain pay, deployments, training, full-time (AGR/Active Guard Reserve) opportunities, veteran status, education opportunities for special operators and how it fits in. Special Operators in Guard/Reserve go beyond 1 weekend a month, 2 weeks a year so some more insight on that would be amazing.
I forget names of 3 guys who are SR, PJs etc, but they made long vids on the pipeline & everything you mention. It "may" be a tall order for some ANG recruiters to re-explain. Took me hours to listen to all those answers. just fyi.

Hey Kyle quick question, when you were active duty did you have a lot of new troops recognizing you from your videos when they got stationed with you
Yeah nearly everyone who was stationed at my base after I was there knew who I was. Haha
@@AirmanVision I never even thought of that lol 😂
Ask about title 32 pay next time Kyle
2:10 This is indeed casual.....I use to love when my Recruiter wore his blues with ribbons and career badge.....I would meet with him and he was soooo sharp....I was like that's going to be me one day....and it was :)
Question for TSgt Acosta.
I just graduated BMT and tech training. I read somewhere that the Guard (NG in general) are now eligible for VA loans as long as they have 90 days of active duty order. Since BMT and Tech school are under title 10 (my order says this) and it’s more than 90 days, does this mean I’m eligible for VA home loan or do I not because it’s an initial active duty training?
Good question, did you find out?
Can you get the reserve/guard health care even after you serve a term?
Hi
Question here, not sure if I missed it along the video.
If you choose to enlist into the ANG and you have a family (have a lease/mortgage payment) do you qualify for BAH while you in Basic Training and then Tech School?
Hopefully you can clarify my question.
Thanks
Yes they do since you are on active orders during that time. However, once you go back to one weekend a month you won’t qualify for those benefits. Good question!
Thanks for responding!
Another question, during this time can you qualify for BAS?
Great content in your channel 👍🏽👌🏼
@@SuperPachuca13 yes
Is BAH only for full time/active? I wanna do part time, but when i am away for basic training and tech school i want to be compensated for rent while i am gone.
When you're in basic ait. You are active. To answer your question yes you received full bah will in basic etc
Hola, did chaplin assistance deploy a lot? Gracias, Blessings
How do you go full time in the air national guard?
From what I'm understanding I believe that goes for active duty like deploying or getting a full time job based on your career at your base like being a recruiter yourself
I am army national guard but all I did was ask. Next day. Orders !!!
Oo
Will one be regarded as a veteran after serving in the Air Force Reserves?
Yes
@@airforcereservesgtwalker please can you tell me the education benefits one should expect while in the Air Force Reserves

Once I be able to go to US my goal is to be a Natl Guard soldier
Thankyou for your service in advance 🇺🇸
