Two guys here who are a credit to martial arts! When I started training as a teenager in the late 1960s in the north of England there was no internet and finding a good instructor was not easy! Young martial artists are so lucky to be able to access the net as a supplement to their Dojo training. Of course, there are many fakes out there but after a little bit of training and research, they are easy to weed out. I have been following these two guys for a while now and as far as I am concerned they are both well worth it and I always feel I have learned something after watching them. Do not forget that it is free as well, so a big thank you to you both for taking the time to teach online!

Jesse Enkamp seems like a genuine guy, I hope nothing but the best for him.
But he's not a sell out in his perspective he's spreading martial arts and having fun doing so.
He is also smart with marketing himself to get the attention needed to financially be safe and get his word out there.
Jesse Enkamp looks like he's living the dream.

This is very nice collaboration and during this video we all could hear some very normal and useful thoughts and very interesting informations. I generally know from watching before his videos of Jesse thoughts and philosophy in general, and I find him completely ok as a person. Of course I don't know him personally, but as hi said, considering the part of his personality that he is giving to the public, I found him very normal and cool, so I like him for that. Additionally he is doing something that I am interested at, so that is just great. How dare Jesse attempt to make a living at what he loves doing, and is passionate about?! 😊
I'm glad that they made this video, because there's so much ridiculous idealism that martial art should never be about making a living ("it's not about making money.")
Martial arts, of course, like any endeavor, should never be about ripping people off, by making false claims of any sort.
But Jesse is the real deal, he's legitimate, so why shouldn't he be properly compensated?
If he can't make a living and what he's passionate about, he's not going to be able to continue doing it on a full-time basis, because paying utilities never stops.
And historically, the military arts, which is what martial arts is about, has always been about compensation (after all, the samurai were paid for their services.)
And yes, "value." Subconsciously, we only value those things that we properly compensate. In other words, we tend not to value those things that are just given to us for free.
Again, I'm not advocating the rip-off "mcdojo" artists. But legitimate instructors who are giving a legitimate service must be paid, idealism or not about "it's never about money."

I love Jesse and his content but what some of these “fans” who call him a sellout all ways seen to keep forgetting something, he isn’t your friend, he is a karate social media personality that needs to make money to continue doing what he loves. The content he gives is fantastic(some of the click bait makes me wince but hey whatever gets the views in), in both an informative and entertaining way but to expect this content from him without him making revenue from it is unfair.

You know I'm really digging Sensei Ando!! He seams like a great guy and I would like to know more about his style. I think in one of the other videos he said it was a self-defense based system which is perfect because I study Kenpo Karate. What's the website or any other way I can receive more information. I've been looking to get involved in another system so this could be right for me. My name is Alan R. Love, Black Belt American Kenpo, 26 years and 19 as an instructor. Any further information is appreciated. Again, thanks!

I think it was Walter O'Brien, if you know who that is, who once said: "We're all software people." Which means that in 2020, if we wish to remain relevant, we have to manage technology. Social media, web, video, LinkedIn, etc... all becomes a part of what makes our living, even if we bake bread! Mr. Enkamp does a marvelous job of building a future out of what he loves, while so many others fail to operate a Dojo for any length of time. He succeeds by being a software guy.

I was very happy to see that this was a legitimate interview and that the title was, maybe, a little clickbaity. I find Jesse's enthusiasm great and he often demonstrates techniques so while he can't critique my form I've learned a couple of moves from him and that's just huge. Jesse needs to make a couple of bucks so that he can share with the rest of us and that's all good.

Sort of an opposite situation but, in a way, similar to maintaining brand. When I was in jail for 15 months (long story, but I prefer to not go into it, not theft, drugs, violence, or sexual, but enough to be arrested and held for, which was triggered by my OCD), brand can be somewhat of a survival tool.
Everybody has probably heard the age old advice of going for the biggest guy and fighting them on the first day so that nobody else will mess with you. That advice never made sense to me, as it turns you into the new biggest guy and now you have others coming after you for the same reason. My family and friends assumed with my martial arts training that I would physically hurt somebody, but instead I tried to be as peaceful and non-antagonizing as possible. Sure there may be one or two who bother you consistently, but I did my best to ignore them.
It was to the point that when I moved to the privileged pods, that one of the guys who had moved there from max told me, "You have this whole tranquility thing going on. I dig it." Ironically, by trying to not stand out and be as unassuming as possible, it actually made me stand out in a good way, as I was selected to be a mentor and granted a few small privileges. Aside from the general card games I played (never gambling, as not only do I dislike gambling, doing so in jail or prison (and yes, those are two very different things) is a very bad idea), I did some work as a scribe, since several inmates were less than literate.
The brand I went for was to be somebody who did not need to be defeated, but rather one to provide assistance if necessary. I rarely displayed any of my skills. The one exception was my hand speed, but only out of boredom and the one guy being really annoying. It was not an attack but to demonstrate how simple it was to deal with his teasing of not only myself, but others as well. When we played Cribbage, one of the rules we had was that the last person who touched the deck was the one who deals. The benefit of that is that dealer gets the crib, for a chance to get additional points. So, we never asked other players to cut, since they would claim the deal that way.
Anyway, the guy would hold the deck out like he was offering it, only to close his top hand down if anybody thought of reaching for it (they usually did so at average speed, being used to other card games, where they would normally cut the deck). So, after dealing with this dumb joke about a dozen times, when he did it again, I just grabbed the deck from like he was a small child. Most of the inmates were in great shape and very muscular, whereas I am fairly unassuming, so they did not expect that level of speed.
