FBS4 ECU Personalization in a W213 E-Class Mercedes-Benz 2021

    Today is a good day. I got my hands on the FBS4 Personalization Expert by ABRITES, and it works like a charm. Unmatched for 2021+ vehicles!
    It is a great pleasure to simply do what I need to do without any obstacles. In this video I will show you how to exchange the faulty ECU of a W213 E-Class Mercedes-Benz 2021 with the help of a few tools and the right software.
    First, get a donor or new Engine Control Unit to use it as a replacement of the faulty one. Use the ZN051 Distribution box, the ZN074 ECU Reading Set and the CB030 Mercedes-Benz MD1/MG1 ECU connection cable to connect to the ECU on bench. Save the FBS4 data when you read it, just in case. After that, setting the donor or new ECU to virgin state will not take more than a few minutes at most.
    Go to the vehicle and read its FBS4 data via OBDII. Important: Save the read FBS4 data to a file, you are going to need it for the personalization procedure. After you have read and saved the FBS4 data from the original Engine Control Unit, go ahead and install the virginized donor ECU.
    In order to begin personalisation, the software will require internal CAN connection, that's when the CB012 cable comes in. Connect to CAN H and CAN L wires in the vehicle as shown. Keep in mind that different FBS4 models may have differently coloured and placed CAN wires, so do your homework before you start piercing them with the needles of the CB012.
    Once CAN connection is established, press Personalize and watch the magic happen. It literally takes seconds to personalise the virgin donor ECU in the car!
    After it is done, and you click the Info button, you will notice that there is a test counter in the FBS4 data. Also, the ECU is personalised but not yet activated. This is made on purpose for two reasons:
    1. Activation will set in automatically once the test counter hits 0 and you do not need to worry about that. This means that the ECU will be activated after 100 ignition cycles.
    2. and probably more important: until the ECU is personalised, but not activated, you can use it to test on other vehicles by simply writing new FBS4 data! NO virginisation needed! NO time wasted! NO spare ECUs required! This is a feature I really enjoyed.

    I mean why!?
    If you have original ecu it's not much easier just to clone it!?
    Any good tuning tool will do that.
    Flex, autotuner, etc

      My thoughts exactly. Autel now supports full clone of FBS4 ECU and all that is needed is the Gbox3. You don't need to virgin to write data, so this is an overkill.

    If I don't have a cb012 adapter, can I use can 6-14 connectors?

      It is certainly easier with the CB12 and on top of that 6-14 arent always active as you think, what happens if you need 3-11 and they are already soldered.
