No words could express how grateful am I to you! You are a great teacher. Not just these videos are very helpful but they are really interesting too. My best wishes to you!!
So helpful. I started sewing while living overseas and got a lot of mystery fabric this really helped me understand their properties and how to use them
Loving it!! Just learning because I hate not knowing what I'm wearing, refreshing my closet, learning how to model and stuff. I'm from Brazil and just feld in love with this playlist. Perfect class!
Your presentation style is fantastic. Besides being so thorough, you give the books and such good camera shots and up close of the textiles, plus the chart you make as you go along. Such a brilliant way to teach. I feel like I am in the front row of your classroom. So beautiful. Best class on fabrics I've ever seen. Thank you!
i’m a knitter and this video helped me understand my craft a little bit better. when i become a famous knit wear designer i’ll credit zoe hong in my vogue spread 🙃🙃
Your entire fabric series is supery interesting and good for learning. The use of fabric swatches really helped a lot - I will now go and annoy my fabric shop by asking to see all of them. The swatch book is crazy expensive, but I think it will help a lot. Thank you very much for the work you put into this series.
Studio arts graduate who started sewing recently and struggle to find the fabrics I want. One of my favorite college classes was Theatre Arts costume-making, the only sewing class I have had. But have become most interested in what people wear, the elements of fabric and the design and sewing process. Working my way through your videos. I love clothing but tend toward the classic designs - although my favorite everyday wear appears most often to be leggings, sweatshirts, boots and most always in black. I have found your videos to be so helpful and when I go fabric searching now feel I know a bit more and am making less mistakes. Thank you for your very entertaining videos! Feel a lot more knowledgeable now about meandering my way through the fashion design jungle.
Oh Zoe, I enjoy so much about your videos. They totally help me better my understanding towards my studying nowadays. In all kinds of way! Appreciate your effort of pulling things out! Kisses!!!
Zoe Hong you are freaking amazing teacher! I almost never comment but you provide the most amazing fashion study information to the world for free here and I can only bow and say THANK YOU. Keep being freaking awesome! 🙌
I haven't learned anything even after spending 6 lacks for my knitwear course in my fashion school as much as I did here with your channel. Thank you so much :)
As a long time expert hand knitter who is now trying to learn more sewing skills, the two skills really are like learning two different languages. It’s almost a different word for everything. Wish we could merge the two and get some sort of universal lingo down to prevent any confusion - in my head especially!
Oh wow! I love Japan and I really didn't spend enough time in Kyoto. I know a Canadian guy in Sagamihara who specializes in indigo and I go to study with him. Japan is so great, good luck with your new job! I'd love to hear more about your job if you're up for sharing.
Hi Zoe, thank you for your kind answer. Yes Japan has great traditional crafter still remaining in activity. That's nice to keep the natural way alive. I've visited a indigo dyer in Shikoku, Tokushima prefecture where it's a pride product. I work for one of the biggest textile ribbon producer. all the production is made in Japan (Fukui). For now we have a showroom in LA if you are curious, the LA team will be glad to receive you and present our products. (around 42000 reference in our catalogue and a lot directly available in stock). As I'll be manager in Paris Showroom and i'm not from the textile industry I have to learn a lot, but as I'm a good crafter (embroidery, knitting, crocheting, felting, ...) I'm already in love with fabric and yarn. but the bad point to this new dream job is that I have to leave Kyoto (ohhh such a jewel in Japan) and face pouting Parisian ahah. Any way, if you are interested google Shindo.com and If i'm coming by LA, maybe I'll get the chance to meet you (*/∇\*)キャ
Aw, poor baby, you have to split your time between Kyoto and Paris! Your life seems terrible. :D I don't live in LA, but thanks for the showroom invite! Maybe I'll find some time to go in a future trip!
omg Zoe, THANK YOU. I study to be a fashion designer all day, and study all night and your videos is like my freetime. LOVE THEM. Keep up the good work!!! Kind of addicted now hehe..
And I love your knowledge of design and fabrics No lie I've learned alot from your channel in 2 months, but I'm always watching your channel. Your the best teacher 🎉🍎
All I knew of knitting prior to watching your video came from a very old (Class of 1957) basketball cheer that describes how to weave a roundball net: Knit one, purl two, (Name of high school): Yoo hoo!!! My parents would be sooo proud, lol! Great work, keep it up!
omg this is the MOST informative and clearly demonstrated visual and instruction of different knits!!! I just purchased a fabric store close out and ended up with unidentified knit fabrics. Most on the bolt so I know something, but others not so much. THANK YOU Zoe!!!
I absolutely loved this! I’m not a fashioner designer nor am I aspiring to be one. I sew a bit and have been venturing into sewing with knits. It’s been confusing just trying to buy fabric for a project. My pattern might say it’s appropriate for jersey; but then I visit the fabric store and find a gazillion types of jersey that are nothing alike. What?! This video just opened up a new world for me. It had so much useful information. I’m excited to watch others that you’ve created.
thank you for your videos I’m working on being a self taught designer and looking to produce my own clothing, youre basically my mentor and I just want to pay my respect for your insights and teaching again thank you.
Came across the video because I was looking to see what the difference is between fleece and tricot from a jacket I was gonna buy. I found this particularly interesting because I’m a welding engineering technologist and we work on different types of welds as there would be patterns of knit and weaves for example and we look at micro structures of materials in grain sizing. Kinda relates a bit. Anyway keep up the vids 👍😁
Great video! Arguably some forms of making fishnets could be (hand) warp knitting. Or perhaps “warp knotting”. Although the thread count is too low for me to be comfortable wearing clothes from such fabric. Although I suppose in the fashion industry such “fabric” wouldn’t be something new.
I often use fabrics on the bias for sculptures too ) Works very well in mixed media ) Thank you Zoe x I did my Weaving all in the UK for training, they do not cover as much in Canada )
Zoe, I love the level of detail!! Thank you for explaining all of those features, it's always fun to watch your videos. I just finished watching your silk clip and it's so comforting that I'm not the only one that gets "too" excited by deliciously smooth silks haha. I look forward to watching the rest of your fabric videos. Your illustration clips also helped me a lot in terms of detail and colour placement. I'm not a student but I love fabrics and sketching fashion pieces as a hobby.
Awesome Information Zoe!!! Can you please do a video on from where to buy fabrics from at wholesale rates when we want to make a collection?? and how to choose fabrics for the collection and things to ask while buying fabrics to take them in consideration ? Thank you much!! I never miss a video from you. I always look forward to watching videos from you!!
Hi Zoe!! Thank you for sharing this information I've learned so much ! Can u do a video on how to do yarn counts in knits? Very much appreciate you ! Thank u!
Both you and another channel I subscribe to uploaded a video about fabrics (specifically explaining knits and woven fabrics) within an hour of eachother! I feel like I'm missing some fabric national holiday or something. :P Great video, thank you :)

Hey Zoe, just wondering are you able to make a video on how to draw a perfect wide leg pant. I’m making them for my hsc and my drawing skills aren’t the best. They are reversible wide leg pants both side white and on the inside they have a lot of detail all with an underlining meaning of bullying. I won’t go to much into it. If you are unable to make a video. Will you be able to direct me somewhere to help me out a bit more. Thankyou so much and I love all your videos you have inspired me so much and helped me a lot with my studying xx
At 10:10 the model photo of rib knit shows a top that is partially ribbed. I was wondering how achieving that sort of thing is done? It doesn’t look sewn together, looks like the fabric came like that Sorry if it’s dumb, I’m new to the technical side
Even though the video was one year ago but it is very helpful. Thank you! By the way, for the book u were holding in the video, is it written by you? Where I can buy it?
Lou Oh I’m trying to write one now but I keep getting delayed with other stuff. I’m working on a book on rendering but I keep getting this feeling that I should be working on a design process book.
hey, why not both? i think you could follow up one on rendering with one on the design process. i think they'd both be pretty useful, considering that a lot of texts, i feel, are kind of outdated for the industry as it is today. i know that when i got my first job, i thought it was going to be tons of fabulous illustrating, etc, not tech packs and flats! ahahaha.
+Lou Oh I will probably write both, just thinking about what to write first. And yeah, I do 836275% more Illustrating than most of my designer friends.
i left the industry because illustrating was pretty more of my passion, and i ended up working in gaming! but fashion is always where i go for inspiration.

Very informative, thank you very much ,knew some, but, needed to know more 🖤🤗👏👏👏!!
Both you and another channel I subscribe to uploaded a video about fabrics (specifically explaining knits and woven fabrics) within an hour of eachother! I feel like I'm missing some fabric national holiday or something. :P
Great video, thank you :)
Loved it, as always ❤️
Can you please do more videos on building a portfolio?
I know you have a super long list of videos to make. But it would really help a lot, as there isn't a lot of videos on it out there ❤️
Yes, I have a super long list. Did you watch my portfolio video in the Fashion Design process playlist?
Zoe Hong i did, but i would really like to learn more. I'm applying for design schools this spring and I want my portfolio to be as good as possible
I do plan on making more in the future but in the meanwhile, the best thing you can do is talk to the specific design schools and ask them what they are looking for. Different schools want different things.
you could also have a look at those books which I find helpful:

Excellent video, as usual!!!
Love your videos 💕
I’m learning a lot
Keep it up 👍🏽
Hi Zoe I was wondering if you could possibly do a video on the process of dye houses and dyeing fabric.
Thank you for this information I’m new to sewing
this video was amazing!
Thank you for this video.😊
This is really good info, thanks for sharing
Would bobbin lace making be warp knitting? Fabulous video, super informative. Thank you!
Thank you so much for this video. Its specially very helpful for me.
Loved this video, thank you! Do you have the same about wovens? Can't find any.
Great teacher
Zoe, do you have any videos about where to buy fabric? I'm looking for rib knit, I went to 3 different stores and none of them had what I need.
I love this!
Zoe hong, you are great!
Great video! Thanks for sharing with us.
BTW what is the name of the book?
Expert Tip Here:
When you're in a big hurry, or if you want to sound as if you know what your doing when buying fabric. . . Just go up to the fabric counter, and tell them to cut up the same stuff that Zoe Hong would use.
You might not always end up with the right fabric, but more often than not, it will be a lot better than if you just try to order it all on your own.
hahahahaha let me know how that works for you!
You’re the best! Thank you!
Hi Zoe, love you videos! Very informing as well as entertaining. The two fabric books you are using - would you recommend them? and if so - what are they?
Check the description box for info.
Thank you
I have made this mistake so many times.
Wow loved it mam
Your video is super easy to grasp. Thanks. Now could you pls spare a few words for me to differentiate between Valour and valvateen. Thanks again.
Velour is a drapy knit and velveteen is a stiffer woven pile.
Thanks.
Loved it!
Thanks for the great video. What book did you use?
I was suppose to leave then here you are made me laugh when you mentioned non woven, then i stayed. 😂
You are amazing and sooo funny I love you ♥️
Funny to hear it broken down as non-woven (you didn't mention interfacing), woven, and knit. Customs breaks it down as knit and "not knit"!

+Lou Oh I will probably write both, just thinking about what to write first. And yeah, I do 836275% more Illustrating than most of my designer friends.
i left the industry because illustrating was pretty more of my passion, and i ended up working in gaming! but fashion is always where i go for inspiration.
Lou Oh what do you do in gaming? I feel like lots of game and movie animators could work on their clothing knowledge.
finalily the knit fabrics. Yeah!!
