Moby:”The one pound bass with a ten pounder attitude”

I'd be willing to bet Moby is over 1lb now. I have an LMB that's not quite as long as Moby but a good margin thicker and she was over a pound and quarter the last time I weighed her a few months ago. Fish tanks can lie. Generally that fish looks a lot bigger when you pull it out of the tank.
I've never seen a bass this aggresive 🧐
Had a pond. It was about 10ft around. Took out the pond and filled with dirt. Herring came back 2yrs later wondering where the pond went

You should feel so blessed to have a beautiful house and back yard. I’m in upstate New York and I love target shooting and fishing. Living in a apartment with no privacy or back yard sucks!! Your pond and ecosystem is simply breath taking. I wish I could take a trip to see it in person

A lot of inverebrates and especially amphibians often live and breed in small creeks specifically to avoid fish, that's probably why the heron was stalking the waterfalls.
Hopefully Outlaw is ok, fish can recover from some nasty injuries given the right time and I've encountered many with scars from heron attacks (or cormorants which are even more devastating).
You could have a second career...Heron Hunter! 😂💪👍

You should get a blue heron decoy and stand it beside the pond. From what I’ve heard they aren’t as likely to come in if there’s another bird there
If I was worried about my pond creatures, there would be no second visit from that Blue Heron.
No need to kill it if there's simple precautions that are effective.

You wouldn't believe how ambitious those blues are....my koi are all over 20" long and I've seen a blue heron attacking them!

As others have suggested, pond netting during the migration season would help. Check it out on Amazon. It’s cheap. I also heard on an Aquascape channel that adding bubblers breaks up the surface of the water and makes the fish harder to see. One more thing, do you have a fish cave?
I actually like these birds, they are like a fishing buddy when you are angling on the shore. I see them alot in northern Illinois
I hope Outlaw shows up! That's funny how it checks the waterfall/creek area too. The river I fish has lots of Herons. They are some great hunters! I've actually had to help a couple out.

You wanted a natural set up and that's what you got for sure. I hope that you can deter him from eating your pet fish but am thankful you didn't kill him. Moby could possibly eat the Heron if you have to release the Beast.

I have a small pond with Goldfish. I had 12 that were around 6-8" at the time. I have an owl decoy setup that is motion activated. Unfortunately it didn't work on him. Of course I didn't notice that there were a few missing until the second time when I saw it land and gut one before I could get out of the house. I put up netting over the pond and its been 3 years and I haven't lost another one yet. Since its by my front door I wouldn't be able to set up a sprinkler (although I would laugh my ass off every time someone came to the door) and I would never have a blow up decoration. Tacky as hell!

I bought a house, had a pond in the back, it was filled with Koi and goldfish. Hurricane Ivan hit 5 months later, lost about all the goldfish, Koi survived. I kept the pond about 5 years. Got too expensive with the filter box/UV light and worse was the toads. All summer long every toad in the neighborhood showed up at night and it was LOUD with their shrill 'singing'. I released the Koi at West Florida Hospital pond, filled it in, grew plants.garden on side, and made a fire pit on the other. No more toads, and I can sleep at night.
It’s crazy because yesterday I was at a park with a pond. Wouldn’t you know it…a massive great blue heron at the waters edge. I instantly thought about your channel. When I say massive…it was massive. The biggest blue heron I’ve ever seen. I didn’t realize they got that big. Had to be an old bird. Probably returns to that pond every year. This was in Houston, Texas.

Yep, spotted sea trout are actually in the drum family with Redfish and black drum. They just look kinda similar to freshwater trout so thats what people call them.

@@mudpuppy8740 water temp in Bama would kill a trout. 70f is the warmest a rainbow can tolerate and that water better have some serious flow
I love herons. There is one that hangs out on the beach down near Ft. Morgan who will watch your rods and come running when he sees a rod tip getting a hit. I try not to feed him but he is fast and smart and occasionally grabs a throwback. I call him “Fred” but there might be more than one. They all look alike!

If you have any tank space a green sunfish would be an excellent new pet. These guys are extremely aggressive (very moby like). You can find them in most farm ponds.
My first thought when setting up my pond and considering the healthy year round heron population in my area was to buy a buttload of slow slower smaller fish and add them to my pond to distract the heron from hunting my bigger fish.
As I was watching, I was thinking install a motion sensor sprinkler, or where is the dog and cat? Then you bring out the air rifle! I forgot you are in the south, so of course! I laughed that was 👍 😁 And the snowman as a target, lol!
When does Moby get to go out in the pond? He would gorge himself on those shiners!
One fishing-line in about 20cm hight around the pond. As you have sayd, the heron always lands some merers away and walks in. If he cannot walk in and if ge touches the line he freaks out and flys away. Try it. its working at our koi pond;)

you know.....in florida they have just one very thin wire about 10+ ft over the tops of the swimming pools to keep the pelicans and other birds out of the pool water. It works too. I wonder if you just had a wire over your pond if that would work....

When I had my koi pond I ened up with 3 blue harings hunting it. I was lucky when a hawk went after them

Those Herons are crafty. Hopefully this one stays away for good now.
You should add some mosquitoes fish at the top of the pond. If and when you blue heron comes back they will stay away from the main pond at the bottom.

After winter do you buy new plants or do they grow back
You know what you need to do is put small fish in the stream that are weather hardy a small variety of minnow and actually put a shallow holed barrier small enough for minnows not to pass through but big enough for water ( make it as incognito as you can, some moss or so) so the heroin eats 20-40 small minnows at the top rather than in the main pond.

Something was swimming badly like it got hurt...watch the fish swim in a circle at the bottom of the pond before he flys over the pond onto the rock. You'll clearly see the fish swimming.

Best deterrent for the blue heron would be a pellet gun.
Had this happen to my small pond. Poor gold fish got bit in half. His top half was still alive when I found him
Have you tried an owl decoy ? That maybe an less invasive way. And many others .

At Harbor Freight or Ace you can get what is called a driveway monitor and other names. There is a motion detection unit and the reciever which is the speaker or alarm part and has two loudness settings. You can use it to alert you with reciever speaker in the house. Or-Or put the speaker out with the motion detector close by and scare the hell out of any intruder. Works with humans too.
If a heron ever tries to eat Moby I bet Moby will eat the heron instead.

Yeah, my uncle lost a bunch of koi to an Egret, he didn't realize what was happening until he lost two of his most expensive fish.
You should put a motion sensor hooked up to a water gun attached to your hose so the blue heron gets sprayed if he tries to get close

*We have a statue of a blue heron in our small pond and it keeps other blue herons away* because Blue Heron don't like to compete against each other and are territorial around small bodies of water!
That makes since I guess that’s why I seen one every year in the pond at the end of my road only one tho
