Gen 2 Tacoma 4WD front diff actuator test.

  • I did some research after my 2009 Tacoma got stuck in four wheel drive yesterday and one of the main culprits is usually the front diff actuator, after spending most of the night pulling it out, I was able to test it and see that the actuator is able to move freely along with the gear coupler inside the diff.

    is the drive shaft supposed to spin freely mine makes a clunk when i turn it by hand

    Might be the flux capacitor thats the problem??

    Can you test this on the truck

      Yes, you should also be able to hear it activate when you put your truck in 4wd, but it will only activate if the transfer case has engaged first. If there is a problem with the transfer case, the front diff will not engage and the 4wd lights will flash on the dashboard.
