    Thank you for the video. The actuator just slides the collar to complete the right axle to the differential assembly.

    Great job, wow that does move very easily. I wonder why Toyota moved away from the old school shift mechanism versus a electronic actuator.

      Make more money of course smh why don't people understand its all about the dollar money in labor and parts to repair it bs it lasting forever no brainer

      So stupid people don't have to move their arm and can just press a button instead. But then it breaks and we have to spend $500 in time parts and labor so lazy people don't have to interact with something manually.

    The shift actuator on the transfer case is the issue with the front not engaging. It has a fail safe system; is closed loop, undiagnosable with anything. Same with my taco. Pop it out install a new one, probably got water from crack vent tubes, lengthen them and raise the vent higher.

    Great job! Question: why did it seem like the front wheels were rotating slower than the rear wheels. I suspect this is by design - but what its the rationale?

    • @pbr549
      @pbr549 3 года назад +1

      I don't know why but something I think is wrong. My 1999 Tacoma I have owned since new vibrated when it was relatively new because I left it in 4x4 on a hard top road. I realized I was in 4x4 and placed it in 4x2. When I got my oil changed later I asked them to lift it and see if the 4x4 still worked. It did but from memory they were spinning the same speed. Hope fully Peter will answer you question. Great question.

      I saw that problem it is just tighter gears in front the rears are looser

    • @ajcaiati
      @ajcaiati 3 года назад +1

      The left front was not rotating the same speed because it’s a floating differential. If you noticed the right front wheel was keeping the speed of the rear wheels.
      Think of it as if the right front wheel was losing traction, and the left front wheel was not losing. That’s why the right front was spinning faster than the left front wheel.

    I figured out the problem with the 4 wheel drive of my 1999 Toyota 4runner - the 4wheel drive works and everything but, the 4wheel drive light flashes every time I start the vehicle.
    Do you have a suggestion of what is causing the lights to flash? Thank you in advance.

      @@pellethoresen4025 it has a Torsen transfer case. The transfer case distributes torque 40/60 in a straight line with no resistance. This changes in turns or with a slipping wheel or axle.

    Why did the front wheels rotate significantly slower than the rear wheels w/4wd engaged?

    • @kb9knd
      @kb9knd 3 года назад

      I was going to say that too. I thought maybe only one rear wheel was turning which would make the other rear wheel spin at twice it’s normal speed, but both rear wheels were spinning fast and both front wheels were slow. I don’t know.

    • @gavin4157

    Great explanation but this design is nonsense. I would much rather have a bullet proof mechanical engagement shifter as part of my console in the interior. But Toyota (and others) like to add electronics to as many things as possible (even water [coolant] pumps) now apparently on some models.
