The breather tube port is the weak point. That's where water gets in and never leaves. I had to replace mine, very rusted but the motor still worked. The contact points that allow the actuator motor to sense it's position can become messed up and prevent it from switching into/out of 4wd. The preventative measure is to tip tie / hose clamp the breather tube port.
I wonder if that's all cases though? Would be nice to have a breakdown of how many are breather hose related and if there are any that failed because of that rubber gasket.
My 2000 tundra has the same electronic actuator and it’s the original even after dozens of trips through the rivers of Azusa. Another option if yours goes out you can bang on it and sometimes it will engage four-wheel-drive if you’re on the trail.
All/most of the new 4runners made in Japan have the manual transfer cases. why not the Tacomas? on a side note, when fording deep water/mud, always keep the clutch engaged before, during and after.... this prevents slippage.
FYI, that is the actuator for the diff. The actual 4wd actuator is on the back of the transfer case. I had to replace mine last week and Toyota wants $1100 for it🤑
my 2019 taco got stuck in 4lo about 250 miles from a toyota dealership and about 80 miles from a shade tree mechanic.. Had to pull the from actuator power then actuator to manually force it in to 2wd to drive it out.. sucked.. I took it to dealership and they ended up replacing the entire xfer case etc.. luckily it was under warranty still.
Help....seriously help. Was trying to replace the acutator yesterday and had everything ready to go. I wanted to start with what I heard was thenhardest bolt to remove. Well, needless to say, that is where I got hung up. What did you use to: 1) get a tool on that bolt; 2) what tool was it; 3)were any prayers said beforehand? You mentioned middle finger left amd index finger to loosen.....right now I'm all in middle fingers at this darn bolt. Any...and I mean any helpful hints, and prayers, are welcome. 😢 Thanks for your video.
Yup, moisture in there tends to be a nightmare for some, usually moisture c/m goes in through the vent. As you can tell the gasket is good since it withheld the water inside. Non ADD front diff, manual j case gang!!! Cheers bro!
Boy did you hit home with this one. My 2020 PRO has been a nightmare since day one with engaging 4wd. Extremely unreliable. Very frustrating. Its my transfer case actuator that i have problems with.

Yes, that would be nice to know. Maybe YOU can do some research and serve the results up to us on a silver platter.@megahurts2
There also people out there saying it could seize if its not used alot. I at least test it once a week just to check. Others say once a month is good.
Good info 👍🏻
I've heard a masrer toyota mechanic say the same thing. Must be something to it😢
I put a bead of silicone on the outside as well and also a little dielectric grease on the connector.

My 04 Tundra the same. It's an electronic push button system.
Thank for the video. Gonna be doing this 8n a few weeks
Like the video. 2016 Hilux in South Africa have the same problem. Will have to install my doff breathers higher for water
Thanks bro..good info...it is my mission tm morning to do what you just did..
The right lights lit up!!!
😂

Idk why either but I know it’s a common upgrade for Tacomas to put the manual transfer case 👍🏻 good advice for stick shift 👏🏻
Even with the manual transfer case, the 4Runner still has this exact ADD on the front diff.
Most of the new 4 runners are awd all the time I believe

That sounds fun 😂🙃😅
Do you add the fluid back to the diff?
Yeah of course

Thanks for your video.
Probably should've linked the actuator you used in the description....
I meant to 😅 adding now
Which one
That new 2023 Taco is basically a Prius with a pickup truck bed.
Said the Honda Ridgeline owner. 😀

Nobody's surprised your dashboard looks like a Christmas tree if theve seen you videos. 😂

Real world solutions to real world problems! :)

Did I miss link to buy axchewatet
Can you fix repair old actuator
Well done
My vacuum line is super short and isn’t connected to anything. Could this be causing the issue?

That’s unfortunate 🙃 these are such good truck but they are plagued by electrical issues, imagine how the new ones will be 😂
So why do some have that and some don't, mine has it and it's a 2003 Hilux why not just have that in the transfer system.?
Bring back manual, front locking hubs.
I wish haha
How had this held up for ya? Just bought the same actuator as you
Which one ⁉️
glad it was just the actuator
Same 😅
Where to get
I'm having a very similar issue at the moment would love to pick your brain if you are available
When I saw the descrition I thought you where going to snow how to install a 60 frontend in a Tacoma.🤣
Wait I thought you where supposed to be moving when shifting into 4X4 High?
My 06 has all of them alarms on dash
Duct tape over lights or use a sharpie
Frist post 🎉🎉
💯
Scan your truck and check and clear your fault codes.
I’ve done that…some are permanent codes
The fix? Manual hubs and weld a nut between the fork and actuator :p
Maybe on the 💩📦’s 😂
@@66Duffman Ouch.
@@66Duffman did that on my 93 because I had an actuated front diff. Never let me down lol.
Good job, but next time throw some light under the truck so we can see what you are doing.
All I saw was 14mpg😮, on 35s? Im jelly😢
😂😂😂 very careful drivokg
Mine has 25,000 miles and the same problem.
Been driving an old junk ford for years and always goes into 4x4.
About to sell this Chinese Pos
C’mon man, get a jack stand under that truck?
What are the two major ingredients that you don't want to expose an EV vehicle too??? Dirt and water????
Yup 👍🏻
Can a Taco be designed from the Factory that meets Taco Lovers Requirements??? Not Joe Bidens.
Grade A comment here 😂
