Now I know how to propagate. Nice video. I think the propagation process would be complete if you include the watering system and the place where the new plants should be positioned.
My goodness. I can see another obsession coming on. I have a few pepperonias and I'm totally addicted to calatheas, succulents and ferns. I do understand how a house can get filled with plants.
Blown away by how easy it is to propagate begonia's! Steve is a great teacher and I can't wait to get my first begonia's to propagate :) Thanks Summer for the vid!!!
Definitely having the right know-how and confidence to care properly for my plants. There is a lot of differing advice on plant care that I find that sometimes I try too hard, or don't try hard enough, or I get scared off buying a particular plant variety because it sounds too hard to care for. :-/
I know this is an older upload but I am so glad I found it now. I have not been able to propagate begonias before, and now that I have seen him do it, I can try again with the correct method. Thank you so so much for doing these videos!
This video about Begonia is realy great. One more tip, dont place new plants on direct sun light it will burn plant. Give plants every 2 days some water that is for summer time of year.
Hello Summer thank you for sharing! I just got a Rex Begonia and never knew how amazing they are! I wanted to propagate it so I can't wait to try this!! And if it's anything like my African Violet addiction, I'm in trouble lol!!❤️🥰🙏🏼
Such useful information! I just got three plants from a retail store on special, they look like they are ready to give up and quit. This video has certainly given me some good tips on what i can do to ensure the continuing of the plant's life cycle. Thanks!
I experimented and stretched cling film over a cup filled with water, and stuck begonia leaf wedges through a couple slits so they were just touching the water.. couple weeks later I had roots!!! 🌱❤️
I know I am late watching this one BUT I just purchased a Rex Begonia with red coloring on the leaves. I was super excited to find one of your videos about Begonias! Steve was so informative about Begonias. I had no idea a plant can be propagated so many ways. Who would have thought a plant could be grown from a leaf! Wow! If I lived near Steve, I would work for free!!
wow, I knew you could grow from leaves but did not realize you could do all that cutting.. very cool.. I just propagated but I did it a different way... which is much faster satisfaction.. great video..
I cut little cutting of a plant and stick them in water. I watch them grow roots then plant them. It usually take less than a month to get enough roots before planting.
My 1st job I propagated begonias & violets, it was my dream job! It’s too bad the lazy woman who was supposed to help me said I didn’t do anything & she was doing all the work 😕 I loved watering the herbs first thing in the morning 💚🌿
Same at my university I worked at the greenhouse on campus and every morning at 6am We would go in and water the all the houses and hoophouses it was a great way to start the morning. Even if my coworkers said I never watered right, even tho they never did..... :x(
It would be neat if someone sold sets of leaves to practice on (like the sets of cuttings sold everywhere), especially for those who don't have any plants yet.
Summer, thanks for this video. I have a couple of these I was having difficulty identifying. Also I really love the propagation of any plant. It's the challenge. I would have never thought that you would actually propagate a begonia from the leaf. I do not usually order plants through the mail but I have heard such good things about Steve's Leaves that I will check it out.
I keep watching videos on begonia cuttings and I’ve tried all of them on my escargot begonias and I’m so excited because most of them work pretty good, the reason I even started watching the videos was because I used to just cut one of my leaves and stick it in water and expected to do something and sometimes it didn’t sometimes it didn’t but it was really slow and cutting at the way this guy is is showing and some of the other RUclips videos is so much faster and so much more productive it really is amazing so thanks for a great video
Hi Summer, I love your videos. I'm obsessed with houseplants so learning lots about how to take care of them is great. And you're very inspiring! I have a small sarracenia which was happy for a long time - eating flies and having healthy green stems, now the ends are brown and it looks a bit shrivelled up. I live in the UK. It's by a fairly sunny window and I've been giving it tap water. Is there anything you could suggest or is this it going into some kind of dormant period? And should I keep watering it? Thank you!
MOST USEFUL VIDEO! "ph is adjusted a bit"? Is there a guide to this step? (Bought a big-box rex yesterday. There were 10 (TEN!) babies - looked like mother was simply removed. Is that the way they are normally sold? (P.S./ I lifted 2 non-begonia plants out of their containers while shopping. LITERALLY: pot was 1/2 full of water and still dripping several minutes later. Lowes is drowning their plants.)
One of my favorite plants but I don't have luck with them :/ the first one I got died :/ not sure if I overwatered it..and I had it by a window sill.. So I took a leaf from it and is now propagating in water growing roots!!!! I recently bought another it was doing fine the first few days but now the leaves are droopy:/ I dont have it by the window sill..giving it more of an indirect light..because I had it on a bookshelf..so maybe it needed alittle light.. Hopefully it doesn't die on me..I did take a leaf and its currently in water..just incase...
@@zainabshekh1276 So far with my sec seems to be doing good.. I realized it dropped down a bit cause it needed water..once I gave it..perked up again..now .I have been noticing that some of the leaves break in the middle..like they get wholes ..what would that mean??
Just one question- Steve or you never mentioned if water is needed in the propagation, do you spray/ mist it sometime or don't give any water at all through the whole time?
Good morning Summer, I would like to know when to water leaf cuttings. Should I let them dry out so they don't rot? Thanks, I loved this video. Subscribed.
Oh! My mum gave me a couple of begonia cuttings but she never knows the name of her plants so I don't know what kind, and we stuck them in water. Is that not a good way to do it? One is the kind with the long slim pointed leaf and the polka dots, is that a cane one that should just transfer to soil?
Would be nice of you to give the generic and proper name of the begonias that you took the time to show propagation. The internet only shows sellers and not the plant info. very frustrating to not put a name with the begonia with those beautiful leaves.
This video was fascinating!! Who ever knew there were 101 ways to propagate begonias!! WOW! So informative and fun to watch! Thanks a million!!
are you bubbly or what? lol
Now I know how to propagate. Nice video. I think the propagation process would be complete if you include the watering system and the place where the new plants should be positioned.
Wow. What a beautiful collection of begonias! It was so enjoyable to watch. Thank you.
My goodness. I can see another obsession coming on. I have a few pepperonias and I'm totally addicted to calatheas, succulents and ferns. I do understand how a house can get filled with plants.
I’m going through it. Ha
@@UncleRandy73 that was a year ago. I probably have 200 plants now LOL
Barbara Lindberg I went crazy in my backyard during this shutdown and now I am gonna have to add on a room, just to have room for winter. Lol
Check out hoyas too lol
i cant wait to be obsessed about propagating because at this point I'm obsessed with buying and I'm spending tons of money 🤣🤣🤣🤣
What an eye opener! I didn't expect that leaves are used to propagate begonias. Thanks for sharing and stay connected!
"Hopefully the mics dont pick up the sound of the plants screaming as I cut it" LMAo
LMFAOOOOOOOOOOOO ROFLLLLL OMFGGGG
Fantastic video! Unfortuntaley not much info on how to water the cuttings, I struggle with that. The soil is always too wet and the leaves always rot.
This is the most beautiful leaves I’ve ever seen
I really enjoyed this video. I recently received 4 begonia plants from Steve’s Leaves and I just love them.
Blown away by how easy it is to propagate begonia's! Steve is a great teacher and I can't wait to get my first begonia's to propagate :) Thanks Summer for the vid!!!
you're absolutely welcome. Also, question for you: what are your biggest challenges that prevent you from being the most awesome plant parent ever?
Definitely having the right know-how and confidence to care properly for my plants. There is a lot of differing advice on plant care that I find that sometimes I try too hard, or don't try hard enough, or I get scared off buying a particular plant variety because it sounds too hard to care for. :-/

Great informative video... beautiful plants Steves Leaves !!

Thank you for this video! Just bought my first begonia today. Super excited!

This is THE BEST GROWING VIDEO CHANNEL , INSPIRING AND VERY ENTERTAINING , We learn n sooomuch thank you xx
I’d like to ask, how much moisture is required and how often do you mist or water the cuttings?
I experimented and stretched cling film over a cup filled with water, and stuck begonia leaf wedges through a couple slits so they were just touching the water.. couple weeks later I had roots!!! 🌱❤️
Kristen S Have you gotten anything beyond roots?
How many baby plants did you get
I stuck a Rex begonia Leaf in water and it grew baby plants at the end and I parted them up and they're growing

HAPPY New year thank YOU for sharing good job ser
Something worth trying out this summer! begonias fancy ones anyways can be a bit pricey.....but I'm willing to try this
Thanks to the information you unselfishly shared, I tried to propagate begonia (begonia erythrophylla). I hope it will be successful.
Thank you. !Fenomenal! Yo lo había oído decir; pero no estaba segura, ahora lo estoy, me encantan las Begonias. Excelente instrucción. Gracias mil.
I love to see how small-leaf begonias are propagated. Do you just plant the whole leaf as it is?
Que hermosos colores de hojas no las conocía buen vídeo gracias por compartir
Really great video. I wish you had one of these for various other plants we love to collect.
wow, I knew you could grow from leaves but did not realize you could do all that cutting.. very cool.. I just propagated but I did it a different way... which is much faster satisfaction.. great video..
can you tell us more?
I want to visit this place my head is swelling causing is the first I see some of these plant wows. They are very pretty
This video is the most useful informations and easy understanding. This video is more real. Thanks for the video.
Wow, never knew!!! Thanks for this video.
Gracias por enseñar Tus begonias están hermosas te felicito ❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️🌺🌺🌺🇺🇾🇺🇾
Love all your videos! One of these on bromeliads (neoregelia, cryptanthus, etc...) would be awesome.
Addicted Steve! Def falling for Begonias recently. Just wish Steve would ship to Puerto Rico
I cut little cutting of a plant and stick them in water. I watch them grow roots then plant them. It usually take less than a month to get enough roots before planting.
When you said little cuttings of a plant do you mean little cuttings of a leaf?
I mean stem with leaves.
I just put a cane begonia leaf in water, excited to see a new plantlet, but now I found out it will only stay as a leaf
Great video thanks! And I love the questions you ask him no matter how silly they may seem to us but we're all thinking it lol. Subscribed!
Do you still have to water the soil for the cone method?
Wow i love begonias ❤️

Teddy A. Bear I loved the smell of the herbs in the morning not so mush the fish emulsion
Speechless! I didn't know these techniques ( reproducing from cut cone leaves). What other types of plants can be reproduce like this? Thanks!
Whole African violet leaves; also cut-up streptocarpus leaves make many babies.
Great video...does anyone know what is the name of hanging plant behind Steve?
It would be neat if someone sold sets of leaves to practice on (like the sets of cuttings sold everywhere), especially for those who don't have any plants yet.
Fascinating!!
I have the heeby jeebys. I used to be so hooked on plant propagation. Plants all over the place. It's a crazy world.
Wish I could order from Steve leaves, but its not possible since I live in Europe.. :(
Yes. Very frustrating !
Please put a caption (indicating the video) on the screen when you refer to a previous video you want us to watch.
Many thanks for you and Steve.
very beatiful. begonia.

Thank you! This is really helpful :D
Hi Summer Rayne, I really enjoy your videos. Can you recommend any books that deal specifically with propagation of house plants?
Thanks a lot for this very very intersting video!!
Beautiful plants nice
This is so helpful thank you so very much
Thank u Steve n Summer. I love begonias n sure I will try it. Bye.
I love my begonia so much so I may try to propagate her!
You actually can choose an unheakthy leaf, they'll sprout a healthy plant the mother leave will justfall off a lot quicker
I agree but Steve's leaves is doing it to sell so they want a healthy leaf so they get a quicker baby
the cone cutting and the "wedges" method is so cool!
I loved does begonias there awesome 👌
Amazing video! Thank you
How much do you water once it's propogated the way Steve described. And what about the amount of light?
Followed this and had great success!
Hi did Steve mention whether or not the cuttings should be kept moist or dry until they propagate? I'd love to know.

Love this
Wish I watched this a few weeks ago, when I cut off a baby leave that had yet to open and thought was rotting
I took your advice in propagating rex begonia, but the new plant lost all the variegation (I used the cone method). Any ideas what went wrong?

Thanks your sharing..👍👍

He did say towards the end of the video.
