      Glad to be of help - however that may come about! With the Strep leaves you cut right along either side of the 'rib' down the centre, effectively cutting it out, then plant the remaining 2 halves of leaf. It works really well.

    Good video Geoff! I have 2 begonia leaves going right now, one in water which I started on Feb. 27th that has some nice roots and one in potting mix using the cone method. Can't tell yet if that one took. The water method works great, I have a number of tradescantia zebrina cuttings that have rooted from that plant I bought a few weeks back. Looking forward to seeing the progress of your cuttings!

      Glad to hear it! I hope you find some value in them. As far as Tradescantia potting media - they're really not all that fussy. I just use peat-free multipurpose compost and perlite - 50/50. But you can use other mixes successfully too. The very best root growth I've ever experienced is with pure sphagnum moss. Thanks Gigi! Glad to hear your Beg. luxurians is doing well. That's always my issue with water propagated plants in that they can develop roots that prefer water! I would suggest perhaps an intermediate stage where you keep them in moss for a while before transferring to soil-based composts. Or just root them in compost in the first place!🤣

    I have tried 'disc propagation'with rex begonia in the past.
    You may also know this method, in which dozens of pieces punched out from a single leaf by a cork borer are used for propagation.
    In my case I used a sharpened aluminium cap instead of a cork borer and sand instead of tissue paper for the media.
    Although impractical in some respects, such as too many plantlet, it is an enjoyable method for show.

      Yeah me too. Very often it can just be a numbers game. People try one single method and fail, then conclude it never works with that method, when in reality it might have say, a 60% success rate. I'd love to test these methods 'in bulk' to find out the percentage success rates of each but alas I'd need many more plants - and perhaps a lab!🤣

    I did one similar to your water propagation. But I don’t like to propagate in water so I did it in soil. Much to my chagrin the plant started coming out of the top of the original leaf. Very top heavy! I would not do it this way again. I would try the leaf cutting method or something else. This is a begonia escargot.

    • @Grow_Up_Man55
      @Grow_Up_Man55  2 года назад

      Yeah Begonias do that with leaf cuttings - not so much with stem tip cuttings which would probably prevent that from happening. Will be interesting to see what happens with mine. I nearly bought escargot once but it's quite similar to some of the others I have.

    Hi I’m writing from Singapore. I have been trying to propagate begonia Rex for 2 months thru stem cutting and leaf cutting as you demonstrated in the video.
    I plant the cut leaves into individual cups like you do and water them before placing them at a bright and airy corner of my car porch away from direct sun light.
    How after a few days the planted leaves turn black and wither.
    What can be the reason?

    • @Grow_Up_Man55

      Try covering them with something transparent to keep the humidity close to the leaves. I've found the wedge cuttings have a greater success rate.
