- Do you want to be a storm chaser? Do think the thrill and the adrenaline of chasing a powerful storm is for you? Storm chaser Reed Timmer has some advice for people who are interested in entering this profession.
Storms especially tornadoes have been my passion since i was 8, now im almost 13 and even if i don't live in America i want to chase storms its my biggest dream
I’ve never related to someone this much. I’ve had a passion for tornadoes since I was 7 years old. Being a girl in Australia it’s been nothing more than a dream. The moment I graduate in 2 years I’m going straight to tornado alley and living that dream. Never give up 💞
I just moved to Arkansas in the more active region of tornadoes. Its truly a sight to see and the thrill is never ending. I just witnessed my first tornado from a rouge mesocyclone a few weeks back it was incredible. I wish you the best on your journey here good luck!
Argentina, if you make it here. Tornado ravaging the pampas is one of the most breathtakingly horrifying scenes you’ll ever see.
Yep im 3 years old and its my dream
@@acidicpurple8559 happy graduation!!! 😊
Red Timmer RULES!!
YES
Who is Red TIMMER?
@fatkatrabbit true but reed and hank are really good
As as a 12 year old myself, my dream is to be with popular storm chasers like Reed or Hank. As I live in the Philippines, I can start early and observe strong wind and rain and even potentially go out farther. Used to be afraid of storms, now, is my lover!
Sameee i love severe stroms
Same I am 12 year old and I want to chase
I wish you the best !
I’m 11 about to be 12 and I want to be a storm chaser and I’m already documenting storms and I’m exsided to fell the fearsome winds
So I just turned 12 and I’m now learning and I just got a camera and video taped my first tornado!

@@Cakebaby53 lucky you I am from Malaysia and want to become a storm chaser but have no chance maybe one day I would go to U S
Here in Louisiana we’ve been getting more and more tornadoes. Some years we get more than Oklahoma and I rarely see or hear of chasers in this area. A tornado (probably ef0) went past my house and tore up a couple of sheds and knocked over some trees and it went unreported in my area. No one even knew it hit because everyone was focusing on two larger tornadoes all within a 20 minutes drive around my house. Not enough eyes around here.
Big oof, God bless
Hello,
I completely understand what you mean by not seeing many chasers in Louisiana! As a chaser myself, a lot of us try to stay away from areas like Louisiana as most storms are what we call “high precipitation cells”, meaning in the event a tornado does touch down, it is near impossible to see it as it is hidden behind rain aka “rain wrapped”. Another thing chasers keep in mind when chasing is terrain. As beautiful as Louisiana is, there are many many trees and hills. This results in us having blockage of eye view on top of the high precipitation. My team and I do plan to chase Louisiana on the occasion and a few of my other chasing friends as well! Hope this helps!
Just note that most storm chasers are volunteers, very few actually make a living doing it.
Most are volunteers and are in it to help out the NWS and the local communities they ln or near.
Is that a good thing or bad
@@Uncharted8907 that's a good thing IMO as long as they have some proper training, many are there but at a safe distance to help the warning process, and expecting to get "the shot" or the next viral video.
Reed’s very first tornado sighting could’ve very easily been his last. He hid under an overpass from the May 3rd, 1999 OKC F5 as it just missed them by a matter of yards. How different the world of storm chasing would be had it not missed.
Being under an overpass too is a very bad decision when hiding from a tornado.
Yeah winds and debris under the overpass can kill
In the movie twister
The twistex team in 2013 was not so lucky
I find myself questioning sometimes what would have happened if Reed wasn't around. Storm chasers would still be a rarely seen bunch of people because he inspired so many!!
I'm a certified advanced SKYWARN storm chaser for the NWS in Texas currently working on my meteorology degree. I'm actually pursuing my dream since I was only 5 years of age & now my very own future ideas having learned from veteran chasers like Reed Timmer, Tim Samaras, & Pecos Hank.
Storm chasing is not just any hobby & you NEED to be trained (SKYWARN advanced,) to avoid dangerous situations: the real reason being to KNOW what you are looking at both advanced radar & storm. You need to understand how a storm behaves, the impacts these leave on people, how to handle it when the storm does do some unexpected things, & how to always have an escape plan. You MUST have a chase partner. There's no two ways about that. Safety is number 1 over everything when chasing. But the biggest rule is to NEVER ever get too close. Respect the storm!!
I'm open to questions & WILL respond. 😊
I'm just curious. Does anyone here chase during tornado season, but have a regular 9-5 job for the rest of the year that is not related to meteorology whatsoever? Thanks.
I always refer to him as *REEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEE* Timmer because he's such a flipping spaz during a tornado.
Reed is a treasure
Plenty of times his updates have helped me navigate the dangerous and unpredictable weather here in north Texas
I've already done some chasing, and I look forward to a chase in Tornado Alley (as defined by the traditional boundary, that is)!!
Me to! Ever since i was a kid ive wanted to chase.
What’s it like? I’ve always wanted to do this!

I’m 13 and I’ve been documenting storms clouds fronts all the weather for my area we had two tornadoes this year. Sadly I was only qualified enough to snap a quick pic. I hope I’m able to become a storm Caser
I'm already a Storm Chaser for the NWS it is fun I know about Meteorology. I might go for my second Bachelor's degree in Meteorology or Atmospheric Science.
What's your first bachelor's in?
how did you get started in storm chasing?
@@andrewmilliken9199 I took NWS Skywarn training classes they offer. I took the basic and advanced spotter trainings. I recommended taking meteorology courses MetEd summer severe weather course so you can get the basic meteorology knowledge and how to forecast it properly. Also, watch a lot meteorol;ogy videos on youtube on severe weather.
@@annablackmon5323 I forgot lol. I am going to pursue a degree in sports management this year. just going to do storm chasing as a hobby.

I got really into meteorology when I was 6 years old after seeing Hurricane Katrina on live television. But unfortunately I didn’t meet my goal to become a meteorologist when i became a teenager. But i still learn and study about meteorology today since I’m 24 years old.

@Skylar Breeze Why? God? Weather came from Earth not from 3000 KMs away, it is here connected to everything. to What it could be other than Earth and Would God Create The scary Mothership UFO in the sk\ as Earth is doing right now with clouds

Seriously, you do this for fun and your not even meteorologist’s. Thus you put yourself in harms way and then the first responders have to also save you, just because your “wannabes.” Sounds silly.
You think red timmer is lying? Lol
