    In the U.S. Discontinue Fiat, Alfa, Maserati, Chrysler. Turn Ram back into Dodge, introduce a new Dodge Minivan, redesign the Durango (already in the works for ‘26MY), and discontinue the Wagoneer Brand (it’s not going anywhere). Make Jeep fully Off-Road.

      Their prices are also way too high. Dodge used to be a brand that competed with Chevrolet and Ford. The overpriced Hornet is an example of what they are doing wrong. If they want to sell something then they need a peoples car that people want and can afford. Ford did just that with the Model T, and Volkswagen did it with the Beetle. Ram does not have a small truck that can compete with the Ford Maverick. Toyota is coming to market with one, and Hyundai also has one.

      Its pretty much the same move GM did years ago as well. Although unlike GM, Stelantis is more EU company and focuses much more on that market than the US. Considering Chrysler's history which has always been rough, they might be sold off to another company again or just close its doors with its sister brands.

  • @barrydworak
    @barrydworak 2 месяца назад +37

    Reality: it doesn't matter how much "better" they make them. There's a limited market for Wranglers at $100,000.
    Porsche's cars are great. But they only sell a limited number because there's only so much market for them.
    Jeep is a whole different niche, and the Wrangler today is a bad match for most buyers in it. Nobody's employer is going to say, "Oh, the new grill on the Wrangler looks really cool. Let me double your salary so you can get one!" The average salary in the US is under $60k, and no new colors or fancy wheels are going to change that.
    If you could sell any number of cars at any price you want, just by making "good" cars, everyone would be driving a Bentley or a Lamborghini.

  • @Dusdaddy
    @Dusdaddy 2 месяца назад +29

    That's the biggest problem with the Jeep, way overvalued. A Jeep used to be a low-cost utility vehicle. They are trying to keep the utility but charging luxury prices. The Rubicon/Mojave Gladiator regularly stickered in the upper 60s? Easily the most expensive yet least desired mid-size. Ram is going to screw up if they don't keep their prices below the competition.

    In 2023, on an almost 20 year old platform, 25,000 Chrysler 300 and 75,000 Dodge Charger sedans were sold in the US. - The Stellantis hype over future EV & hybrid sales is both delusional and dishonest. 11,000 Hornet is a fraction of the old RWD dinosaurs.

      Great comment, I've been saying the same since the Daimler days. The leadership is too far away and not nearly involved enough and doesn't give enough resources to the Chrysler Group for them to be truly competitive. They should give more resources to the group and appoint another separate CEO/President to independently lead the group here in North America. The European leaders have no concept of what North American consumers want, as evidenced by the fact that Pugeouts and many of the other brands have either never been sold here or have been failures in the market in the past. Stellantis has been assembled long enough to where the clueless European leadership is really beginning to negatively impact the Chrysler Group.

Stellantis needs a US designed SUV and not a cobbled up Euro version. Remember you could buy a Dodge Grand Caravan for less than 20K with discounts on the AVP model.

Which means that the high prices do no not justify the benefit from the good. I looked at a Wrangler lately and saw that it has a $60k MSRP sticker but when I checked it out in detail, i learned that this hollow feeling SUV that has crappy road comfort and subpar interior is obviously marked up by the automaker just to make additional profit because there is no way this product warrants a $60k price tag. One of the problems for Stellantis with Ram trucks, forget the high prices, is that they don't have a mid size truck. Ford has the Ranger and smaller Maverick, Chevy the Colorado (same as GMC) , Nissan the Frontier. Even Honda has a Ridgeline and Hyundai, the Santa Fe. RAM, big or nothing. Without a mid size you lose sales because even if somebody looks at a mid size , they may see a full size they like and buy that. Toyota with the Tundra is their bread and butter truck.

    The budget version of the Chrysler Pacifica was named the Chrysler Voyager. That's what the Plymouth version of the minivan was called back in the day. Unfortunately they were only made for a couple years and apparently weren't good sellers, although I do see more of them around than I would expect, but that was killed within the last couple of years.
    Also, it really upsets me that Chrysler brand might be killed. My family and I are huge Mopar fans and have owned them for 40+ years. It saddens me to see their current state. It would be one thing if they had a larger lineup and if they simply weren't selling, I could maybe see the justification for letting it go. However, especially under Stellantis, there has been ZERO effort or resources given to the brand to engineer new vehicles. If the Stellantis hierarchy pur actual effort into designing and marketing Chrysler brand vehicles, I feel like they'd be in a much better position. It's almost like their intention was to sabotage the brand from the very initial the creation of Stellantis.

Jeep has been a lower tier luxury brand since then, and it kept its offroad heritage just as a mean of advertising. Jeep's basically an american Subaru. The thing that saves them is that their dealers are all located in one spot. Chrysler, Dodge, Jeep, Ram, Fiat. Alfa and Maserati are separate, at least any that I have seen. That means they aren’t really separate brands. The dealers are the same, they just have different brand names. It’s not like they each have separate R&D or factories, so keeping something like Chrysler is not a big deal. It’s different only in name. If they want to consolidate they can get rid of it and make the Pacifica a Dodge Grand Caravan again. It should have never been discontinued to begin with. Fiat could be much more successful if they brought things over like the Panda and other small cars. They should also be rebranding some good small vehicles from Citroen and Peugeot as small Dodge products like they used to do with Mitsubishi back in the 80’s and 90’s.

    The problem with Chrysler is that they haven't made any large moves since 2017 with the launch of the Pacifica minivan. They should go back to how it was in 2008, when they had the Aspen large SUV, Pacifica midsize crossover, Town and Country minivan, Sebring midsize sedan, 300 large sedan, and the Crossfire performance coupe. This allowed people to really choose the products they actually want. Let's be honest, nobody is going to choose a Chrysler just because of the brand name, they have to be incentivized by lots of features and a low cost.

    In the end the CJDR brands got ruined by Stellantis and you can thank Carlos Tavarez for that. After 2019 the prices got more than doubled, the quality is less than desireable, most platforms are outdated, outdated engines, no more V8, too much spending on undesired overpriced EV's, theres just no value on these brands.
    No matter what Carlos does he cannot save the brands from the sorry state that he put them in here in the US. He might as well sell of the brands to the Chinese :S

    The difference between the Dodge Hornet and the Toyota Rav4 is the Rav4 has been around alot longer. If Dodge can stay around long enough, the Hornet sales will pick up. I do think they rushed the Hornet to market. There were quite a few problems with them with the first year, but almost every problem has been solved with updates and RSU's.

    Sometimes, I think that stelantis doesn't talk to their customers. Chrysler had the 300, which wasn't refreshed for at least 8 years. If the company would have took the durango and made a Chrysler spinoff with comfortable seats and cost 50k, it would have sold. The mini vans are too expensive. If they started at 30 k and had AWD for 35 k it would sell. They could have built a luxury sedan off the LX platform and called it New Yorker with really plush seats for like 45- 50 grand it would sell. It's like they Don't know what Americans want. Why is the jeep now luxury that is not what the brand is that should be Chrysler . The jeep wagoneer should not be a jeep or called the wagoneer it should be a Chrysler. The luxury grand Cherokees there again should be reskined Chrysler. Why no 2 speed transfer case on the base grand Cherokees and the awd versions that is the base shoudt be jeep shoud be reskined as dodges. Jeep off-road O no not so much. If its all to hard stellantis look at Tahoe Yukon Escalade you might loot at how to platform share.

    Stellantis is goofy. American LOVE the Dodge Charger and Challenger. Making it electric is absurd. Electric is a niche, goofy and not dodge customers. All they really needed to do was add a hybrid to the charger and Challenger and sales would've jumped. And would meet EPA standards. The Caravan kept dodge numbers high, they don't need a brand identity, they need sales. The caravan had a following. Cheap, affordable family hauler that's been an American icon for decades. They dropped the caravan to keep Chrysler alive with the Pacifica. Dodge had sales, they sold the journey as a cost effective vehicle. Nothing great, not the most reliable, but cheap. Chrysler should focus on cheap vehicles or upscale variants like how GMC or Buick is to Chevrolet. Dodge NEEDS to keep it's sales breadwinners like the journey, caravan, Durango, Charger, Challenger. Let Dodge have it's line of vehicles that will sell. People who want performance will get the Charger and Challenger. People who want affordable will get what's cheap. You need to cater towards affordability. Jeep will be the upscale brand. Ram is Ram. Dodge NEEDS to survive. I respect Chrysler that kept Dodge alive, but I don't think Chrysler will make it to 2030. Dodge is a household name. Chrysler hasn't been a household brand in almost 2 decades. Fiat is done for. Their place in the US is done. The fact that Alfa Romeo and Maserati does better than Fiat should be clear.

    Ironically, the bashed Toyota for not having good EVs, is selling HEVs as many as possible.

    A lot of people are blaming Stellantis for what is going on with the North American sales. Personally I see it more as Fiats fault and perhaps Tim Kuniskis fault with Dodge and whoever was managing Chrysler.
    Making Dodge only a performance Brand was a dumb idea with only limited market appeal. They need to sell vehicles that appeal to everyone! As it is FCA/Stellantis really has no vehicles for entry level to low middle class buyers. Also think is was stupid to spin Ram off from Dodge! Chrysler from the start of the FCA merger was being suffocated! Chrysler should be upscale cars separate from Dodge for upper middle income buyers up.
    The other thing both FCA and especially Stellantis has been milking American buyers to subsidize European and elsewhere buyers! Our government and its regulations also play a part in fleecing American car buyers with dumb rules like the Chicken tax! I think if not for the Chicken Tax Americans vehicles and sales would look very different! There are tons of buyers that would gravitate towards vehicles like the Kei cars and other smaller less profitable vehicles given the chance. Realistically those are the only newer type vehicles they can afford but have been being denied. Its punish the poor and reward the better off!

    You wanna know why Chrysler is there? Easy, read some comments… how could you expect a foreign group to respect an American brand while some people right here don’t? Some customers sent Chrysler straight in European hands by buying foreign, praising Toyotas and Hondas, it’s a bit late to be concerned now, customers in the US put Chrysler down, now Stellantis is free to finish the job cause people gave them this power
    I’m equally mad at Tavares as at those who are responsible first place. Without foreign adoption Chrysler would still be American owned and never ever axing it would even be an option. Go to New York, Los Angeles and even in Colorado, look around and here you got the answer as to why Chrysler failed, with customers like this a brand don’t need competitors to go down
    But well, the Tundra sells well so they got what they wanted
    Feel free to delete this comment, I’m used to it, but I mean each word, American customers are responsible for the situation first place

The biggest problem is Chrysler only has 1 vehicle to sell they list the 300c which is an awesome car without it having various vehicles to choose from Dodge and Chrysler may not last unless they loose one! What they should be doing is move Chrysler into the luxury market , leave Jeep to have off road/ over landing suvs, ram has trucks the biggest problem is that Dodge and Chrysler have the same product and are in competition with each other . Right now Chrysler seems to have no direction and it's going to need quite a few vehicles to sell as it's own if it's going to survive!

I Could see Chrysler as a premium brand, these constant changes with ownership I think ruined any chances of the brand bouncing back. The money in profit made from the L cars could have easily funded an all new versatile platform at an earlier date let’s say around 2020 model year. In all honesty in that year they could have offered the 300 with the 392 engine choice only and still made a profit with a low enough starting point. The wagoneer should have been made under the Chrysler name as well. I’m blabbing but the possible death of another American brand kind of ticks me off.
