    This is an easy to build fully modular system! I show you how to build base cabinets, which can be done in 2' or 3' widths. And upper cabinets in 2' or 3' sections. So this project is scalable to any size! Mine is 13' wide, but you could easily build it anywhere from 3' - 20' wide or more. Simply by adding or subtracting components.
    You also can just as easily make the base with drawers as I did or with shelving & cabinet doors, like I did the uppers. You will also see how to build a rigid semi-torsion box style top, in which to embed your miter saw.
    And you choose the level of build that you want. from basic ply, to Baltic birch, or even hardwoods. Any of which will make a perfectly functional Extreme Miter Station.
    All of this is detailed in this 4-part video series, and available in full comprehensive plans on our website. kingsfinewoodworking.com
    My build
    This is a 13' long x 7' tall miter station containing sixteen dovetailed drawers, in four base cabinets, a bank of six upper cabinets, and a bunch of storage shelving cubby holes in the middle.
    The bodies of the cabinets are mostly Baltic birch plywood. the drawer fronts are from leftover pieces of walnut plywood that I had from a kitchen job. And the sides are skinned with 1/4" cherry plywood.
    I used architect's scale triangular aluminum rulers for the drawer pulls. I drilled and tapped them just for this project. And the upper cabinet handles are actually 3" c-clamps.
    My old miter station had a 12" DeWalt sliding compound miter saw, that used up too much space in my shop. The dual bars that the miter head slid on forced me to keep the saw 11" further from the shop wall than I wanted.
    After researching, I found the Bosch Glide 12" dual Bevel miter saw that could be placed practically against the wall of the shop. Because of that, I would be able to gain almost a foot of space in my shop. That's quite a bit when the shop isn't as big as I'd like.
    I took my time, did some research, and spent several days building this Extreme Miter Station. Something I can be proud of.
    Plans are available on my website! I hope you come back and see all 4 parts of this video series.

    I want to thank you so much for a very well done and informative video. I especially appreciated the "recovery" you showed to correct a minor mistake on the draw width, as we all know we do make them, even a professional such as yourself.

    Thanks for posting this dove tail jig use and demonstration. One tip that is mentioned in the instructions is to put a sacrificial board at the end of the last tail on top to help prevent tear out on the last pin.

    @thewoodweldingfabricator9300 4 года назад +2

    I've found cutting a fine scoring line along the base of the tails helps reduce tearout. Takes a bit more work, but on critical areas it's worth it. Great job on the drawers!

    I know its a year old, but a friend and I just watch this. The build is great, but we had a good chuckle with the "Ahh Fudge" moment when you realized the issue with the saw pivot and the 2 drawers you had to hack on the fly. We surmised that the missing video coincided with you chuck'n that thor mallet across the shop from the frustration of removing and reworking those draw slides...sorry for the laugh at your expense...for me its just reminds of times of my own "Ahh Fudge" moments.

    The U shape bit on the runner you attach to the cabinet is designed to allow the runner to pull in, so if you use those holes you won’t need to use shims for the drawers

    I bought a Leigh D4 dovetail jig almost 20 years ago now. That is an amazing jig no question and it does allow for some amazing dovetails. The problem is it is very complicated and it takes a long time to set up. It looks like that jig you’ve got is easier to use. Sometimes I really wish I could have done dovetails as quickly as you did her.

    • @KingsFineWoodworking
      @KingsFineWoodworking  6 лет назад

    Suggested improvement on dust collection: put in a curved surface behind the MS. MS puts such velocity into the particles that the flat target area gives a lot of bounce back.

    I really enjoyed this build thanks for sharing. The best part is certainly seeing your family involved. the lighting is excellent as well as the video quality. The miter station is among the best I've seen. Do you think maybe the router bit speed (too fast) may have caused some of the tear out you experienced? Finally the dovetail portion was thorough enough to be a tutorial by itself! Thanks again!

    • @KingsFineWoodworking
      @KingsFineWoodworking  7 лет назад

      Hi, thank you. The router speed is possibly an issue. I have tried changing the speed in the past from very high to very low, and it seemed I always got tear-out on plywood. I think I just came to accept that it was going to happen. And the only solution was to go slow and hope. But now that I think about it, i'm not sure I tried varying the speed on Baltic birch plywood. I'll have to give that a try. Thank you for watching. ~ James

    Nice. Looks like Jay Bates station.

      Thanks, but it’s not like Jay’s at all. His is the first quality Miter Station on RUclips. Mine is a poor attempt to get a functioning workstation, and one of my early attempts at making a video. My build & video quality are mediocre at best.

    Not sure if you mentioned it elsewhere, but how many sheets of ply did it take to build your project? I've been thinking of building pretty much the same layout.

      Hi Bruce, it took me about 12 sheets total. Eight sheets of three-quarter inch thick plywood and four sheets of half-inch thick plywood and once the project was done, I had about a half a sheet of each left over.

    I am working on building this now during the quarantine. I forget the measurements to use the little jigs for the drawer slides. I have the cabinet bases assembled, just adding drawer slides now. The torsion box is a bit intimidating, but I'll have a go at it next.

    I have this dovetail jig and I have never used it. For some reason it kind of scared me and I'm not sure why. Your explination made it seem much easier and I made a couple drawers today with it. Thanks!

    I'm not a big fan of Dovetails on Plywood. A Denser Plywood like Baltic Birch you can get by with more often. But any sort of "Normal" plywood just tears too easily. You can use Tape to try and stop it but if it tears a layer it will rip past the tape.
    Plus, Plywood is so expensive. I built the Drawers and Cabinets in my shop out of White Cedar. I get it very inexpensively up North a few hours from where I live by the 16' Trailer full. It is rough cut in ONE bys and TWO bys, but I don't mind spending a little extra time to plane them to spend a ton of money over plywood.

    Do you make your drawers exactly 1" narrower than the opening when using these drawer slides, or slightly smaller than that?

    • @KingsFineWoodworking
      @KingsFineWoodworking  7 лет назад

      Hi Mike, best is to make them exact. The drawer slides will flex both in and out just a little bit. So you can probably do up to 1/16" wider or narrower. But I just try to shoot for exactly 1" under.

      MKe your drawer 1 1/16" smaller than your opening. NOT 1"...1/32" slop on both sides will make the drawer slide smooth

      @KingsFineWoodworking  7 лет назад

      dyjruuu, I do think that recommendation of going 1/16" under will work well for these.
      But anyone else reading should take caution. While 1/16" is fine, more isn't necessarily better. I have noticed if you get more than an 1/8" under, then the drawers will not open & close. At least with these drawer slides.

    After about a year of using the PC jib I finally figured out how to avoid the little hole that you have at 25:51. Do you know how, if so I will save my breath, otherwise I can help.
