There's a difference between AI in China and AI in the west. China uses AI mostly for production and health care. The US tends to use AI for military and entertainment, such as animation, porn and games.

I've noticed that many Western movies and literature tends to portray the negative aspects of AI and robots, in the form of dystopian futures where robots control humans, _(Matrix, Terminator, etc)_ whereas in Eastern media (including Japanese anime), AI and robots are often portrayed as positive, (such as Astro Boy). It's the different viewpoints of Eastern and Western cultures.

The claim that the United States doesn’t use AI like the DaVinci medical system, or for x-rays and CT scanning and drug development is outright false; if you want to claim that China criminalizes pornography, I can roll with that because it’s true. but the notion that young Chinese men aren’t aching to use AI & robotics, (As though they have some how evolved past their instincts, & surpassed western temptation, because of government restrictions) for their fantasies is almost certainly untrue 🤣

AI is the future, there are still a lot of people (probably all Indians) who say that China's population is declining and therefore China is collapsing,
they don't seem to realize that it's the age of technology now, unfortunately Indians haven't and won't be able to enjoy the benefits of population.
China's AI is competing with the U.S. and China's drones and electric cars are leading the world

Some Indians believe that population is everything, and that China owes its success to its huge population and therefore, India can expect the same success given its population. But more importantly is ensuring that children born receive adequate food, healthcare, and enrollment into schools to unlock their potential. India may have a huge population, but also high child malnutrition, high infant mortality, and high illiteracy rate.

The U.S. trained AI to talk and to write essays to replace bank clerks, office workers, information desk attendants, and in the near future also medical professionals and lawyers. Meanwhile, AI in China not only helps with farm production and cattle raising but also runs the operations of coal mines deep inside the earth, not to mention the full automation of terminals and ports -- with 18 fully automated container terminals in use since 2017 and an additional 27 others under construction, not to mention nearly 100 ports and terminals in foreign countries around the globe. Combined with 5G, 5.5G and soon 6G, Chinese AI projects will soon encompass space exploration as well. Too bad, the U.S. is determined to destroy Chinese technological advancements that can be beneficial to humankind.

As a student and researcher of AI for the past 10 years, I think people have unrealistic ideas about the capabilities of the neural net / machine learning models used in most of the current AI programs. It's already consuming so much power and processing all the data / knowledge on the internet, yet still cannot match the intelligence of a human brain that consumes tiny fraction of that power. And there is a qualitative difference, not just quantative. AI as we know it currently is far from intelligent. There are other models still under research & development, that could one day make AI more efficient, and more natural, closer to human like behaviours. When that happens, demand for electricity, data centres may not be as much as the current crude and brute force machine learning.

Business Insider said years ago that about 90% of our world's grid is underwater sea cables. That includes the Internet, Google, phones, and electrical grids are underwater sea cables. In fact, the United States is concerned that Russia could cut these underwater sea cables and shut down the entire power grid. Everything is under water not on land.

Exactly. I don't think it's the amount of money / resources you have to put in AI that makes a difference. OpenAI had fraction of resources as Google, yet it became #1. I think it only takes one or a few clever individuals to come up with a new AI model that completely overturns the current Neural Net / Machine learning paradigm, and make something 100x better and uses 100x less energy.

I wonder, in the calculation of power consumption in using AI, it seems that another factor is ignored, it's the cooling of the venue housing the computers, and the associated things such as lighting. Rule of thumb, air-conditioning and other related power consumption may be similar to that for AI computers!

Thus the energy prices for home consumers will grow exponentially because the AI will "consume" most of the power generated. This demand for electrical power will not be met just from wind and solar power generation installations. Remember that electrical power will also be needed for charging electrical cars, trains and so on.

Inequality will just explode! While consumers will just be amazed by AI and enjoy the crumps like gaming, entertainment, tourism etc, the superrich people/companies/countries will reap the real of power and control AI brings. They will be more immune to regulations and laws. State boundaries will become increasingly irrelevant. The real roller coaster is coming and frankly, I don't think it will get better for the average people!
