Thank the lord, the new Sailing Jibsea episode is out!!! Everything in the universe can finally be at peace again. Whew, for a minute there I wasn't thinking I could make it. Woke up Sunday, realized it was going to be delayed a bit, ran out of excuses, went to church. Now I can watch my favorite battleship sailboat, surreal sailing, suspense, unexpected projects popping up everywhere for Travis to play Whac-A-Mole with, and Steph's award-winning cooking (get your cookbook's if you haven't yet. Kid's and I are really enjoying! ). Wish you both the best!
OMG 😱, Jib Sea II ‼️👍🏻💥 you made it to Ft Lauderdale 🎉🎉🎉 Congratulations 🎈🍾🥂 Gotta say, I love the larger interior on #2. I can only imagine how Steph will utilize everything. And, yes, Travis, I understand how you see the ‘bigger picture’ when looking at an issue. It is a great gift. Praise God. See you both next time. ✨🌊💨⛵️🏝️👙🌞✨
Alternator spacer ha ha that’s funny had the same issue with our sailboat.. It definitely eats belts if not aligned properly.. Glad you guys are safe due to the hurricane that just hit Florida.
That meticulousness is what initially got me hooked on you guys years ago, I love it when you share it, especially when you share how you thought through the issue at hand. Dont discount yourself though Steph, you are pretty meticulous yourself when it comes to organizing, provisioning and logistics ... maybe it does not translate as well to video, but my wife and I certainly see it and appreciate the insights into your methods when you figure out how best to share them! Great episode, and thank you for sharing it with us!
Thanks David! We are both most certainly meticulous and one of us moreso than the other when it comes to certain areas. I think thats how we make it work. Divide and conquer!😅
That little motor that could seemed to be bucking a little bit, not sure if that was idle or under load but might be time for some new motor mounts or make some out of stacked pieces of old tires.... excessive engine vibrations can be the root cause for round bolt holes to waller out & ovalize over time. A high amp output alternator would make a nice upgrade for charging. Strong work sailing her 1300 nm with the quickness, most impressive!
What a boat ...This has been a VERY good investment for the future.Aluminium boats are going to be the future of boat builds!!!! Take my word !! Check the pully with it looks like that belt is to thin for those fullies?
Great to see you made it! Nothing like having experience and solving problems, which we have while at sea! What are your plans for the winter season? Stay safe from the east coast of Canada 🇨🇦
Heh! You guys probably sailed right by since you didn't mention Helene. (My house is on the Space Coast) It got a little windy and snotty over here - I hope y'all stayed comfy. There is a serpentine belt kit that takes care of the slippage once you get the alt mount fixed. I've got one on mine and it works really well with the way too big alternator I installed.
Haha I like it. Good mix of content, excellent convo and a little bit of teaching. Still think you should have sacrificed a spoon to the fish gods. Looking forward to next week!
The most common problem i see with yanmar belt dust is rust on the pulleys if you see surface rust in the groove of the pulleys, get some sand paper or wire wheel and clean well .. no more belt dust and worn-out belts.
If you are going lithium then look at used European car liquid cooled alternators 150 to 190 amps & mulit v belts with idler tensioner. Much better than having to use a big duct hose & fan to attempt to keep your alternator cooled.
Awesome video guys! Yeah you just a little crazy for a 1300 mile shakedown so soon lol. Steph you’re so good at not turning your back to the camera 😂 just saying
clearly this was before Helene ?. Man would not like to have been in those waters with that monster coming in !. This boat looks so badass. Check out the adventures of John Pennington he got one that looked loosely like yours and he did the northwest passage right up to your home country of Canada !.
Travis from someone who has had 3 skin cancers removed from his nose, use a quality sun block out, or hat. Personal choice, tho, but does catch up with you later on in life.
It's not Jimmy or Jerry, it's actually Jury when referring to nautical. What does jury-rigged mean? The word jury has a few different meanings. It can be a group of people that decides the verdict in a legal case or a group of people who judge a contest, but, in the nautical world, jury means “makeshift” or “temporary.” The origin of this jury isn’t exactly known. The word rig is also a nautical term. As a verb, it means “to fit a ship or mast with the necessary elements (such as shrouds and sails).” More generally, it means “to assemble.” Together, these words become jury-rigged by the late 18th century. A jury-rig, as a noun, is a temporary solution that’s built to replace something that’s been broken or lost overboard. The word can also be used as a verb. For example: “She jury-rigged a new topmast after hers broke in the wind.” Although this expression is rooted in the nautical world, it can refer to any makeshift, MacGyver-like fix: “He jury-rigged a raincoat from garbage bag in the garage.”
I think it is the combination of a problem and having time to ponder think and rethink why the problem happened. I bet if this wearing of the fan issue occurred while you were busy or preoccupied with 50 other tasks you would have simply put on another belt and called it good.
Greetings. I love the idea of an aluminum boat. I can’t stand the streaks down the side of a boat. I know how to stop that a land, it’s just not environmentally sound on the water. Most aluminum boat owners don’t worry about it. I’d love your opinion, and updates. I’m sorry if this is an annoying question. Just been thinking about my retirement boat.
What's the hourly checking on it going to do? What is your realized teh belt was being chewed up. What would you have done/ Does it really make a different to watch it so closely? Would you have gone to shore or something if you realized there was a problem? Love the content as always. Should you not have gone to shore somewhere and had a real fix done before Ft Lauderdale? PS. Might be a side business you could offer to do surveys for very long distance sailors.
Really enjoy your content, but all the commercials on RUclips lately are really annoying. Do you post on another platform? I experienced almost 30 minutes of adds to watch your video.
The way things are going the best is probably hybrid Electric powered by a generator able to regen under sale and maximise the use of the limited monohull platform for solar. Belts pumps impellers alternators seals gasket materials and clamps all needed spares along with filters.
Hi guys remove the alternator bolt and pack it with an oversize bolt which will act as a spacer. When tightening up the alternator use a long bar to make the belt tight and then tightening up your nuts.
I love the fact you can sit in the seats on the stern to recap videos.

The new boat looks great, and performs very well. The interior looks huge. Great boat for cruising.
WTG Travis! Excellent Jerry rigging job! Woohoo!😁🥳
When it comes to fixing things Travis finds a way! Enjoying this passage!
An additional surveyor couldn't have hurt, except for the pocketbook. I find it kind of amazing learning something new.
Great episode. So glad u made it safely sound 💓
I'm glad you guys made it safe. Thank you for the video.

One of my Favorite Canadian Sailors!
VERY happy to see you there safe. I was worried with Helene because I was not sure how close to real time your videos are.
Holly Molly! You both have come a really long way in the short amount of time love watching your videos
Another great episode! Check engine everyday n while cruising along best. Great fix. No wing nuts allowed lol. Cheers from Lake ontario liveaboard.
You two make a hell of a team!

On the list!
On to the UPGRADES!!!! Solar! Water maker upgrade! Lithium! What else?!!?!
Yes we need all of it!! Stay tuned!
Thanks!
Thank you!

Love the new camera angels. You two are great
Great to see you made it! Nothing like having experience and solving problems, which we have while at sea! What are your plans for the winter season? Stay safe from the east coast of Canada 🇨🇦
What an awesome sailboat!! Loving the vids as usual!
Sometimes its 'Just do it' You know when things are OK , & i would have done the same . Nice well kept boat .
Thats the tough part of buying a pre-owned boat, you never really know what someone else has done. Way to get it done.

Groovy episode. Bummer about your engine screwing up.
Experience is the best doctor!

Rockin Roll ❤️ you made it 🎉
add lengths of stainless all thread in appropriate sizes and nuts and you can fill any bolt and nut configuration
How are you? Where are the boat's in safe surroundings? Hurricanes? Stay safe we 😟 worry!
See you next week at the boat show!!!

Glad you didn't get caught in Helene
I do HVAC. They make universal spare belts. Get one or a few as spares
I was starting to Sing the Gilligan's island theme, but don't need to I Guess.
Haa
Great job guy's
I like that boat
Replacing fan belts is not fun if you are given the wrong one ! Battled for hours , then saw the code on the old belt , a breeze after .

very good...
Hope you fine tuned (no way) that winch, the way it sounds it is on its way out. (Or some parts of it).
Nice video

When at sea always remember rule one the brown stuff hits the fan at the perfect time to screw you. Rule two that's up to you. But great fix.

Do what I did ditch the v belt and switch over to serpentine haven't touched in 4 years electromaax

what was your arrival date in fl
Does the motor have rubber mounts? This could have been the issue as well.
2025 is a Solar Maximum Year ... i would skip sailing around the world this year and find a place in the shade.
Rust in the grooves??
Just found the channel. What kind of boat is this ? Someone posted the comments the length And brand ??
Sounds like you need ' Aircraft disaster investigation ' :-)
Salvage what you can :-)
❤
"Gerry-rigged"!!
...or "jerry-rigged".
Your winches sound like they haven't been pulled apart, cleaned, and then repacked with grease in decades.
Let’s goooo
Why didn't you wait till after hurricane season ended?
We need to get our stuff and it would mess up our seasons/route come Fall/Winter
Really enjoy your content, but all the commercials on RUclips lately are really annoying. Do you post on another platform? I experienced almost 30 minutes of adds to watch your video.
It just dos t seem like a good idea to put your fingers on a moving belt
It ain't Jimmy rigged. It's either Jerry rigged or something a lot worse.
Another betterhelp sponsorship 🤦♀️
better help sucks, dislike
Gee, I bet you it would be simpler if you were 100% electric drive
The way things are going the best is probably hybrid Electric powered by a generator able to regen under sale and maximise the use of the limited monohull platform for solar.
