If you unscrew the foot plates at the side doors and rear hatch and tuck the flooring underneath it it will hold it in place in those areas allowing you to enter and exit with out tripping. I know it is too late now, but if you ever replace the flooring keep this in mind.😀

Double sided carpet tape would hold the vinyl in place from underneath, and not be visible. Good job!

Another cheap way to do floors for a space that small is a sheet of the cheapest plywood from Home Depot (~$10) and a sheet of “nicer” looking thin plywood (i used 5.2mm, $16 for a sheet). Cut both to the size of your floor space and then glue them to each other with wood glue. Use thin finishing nails to make sure the pieces of wood seal together without gaps. Seal it with a semi gloss polyurethane to make it relatively water proof. If you wanted to save cost of not buying a jig saw, you could cut the plywood with a hack saw. I like what you did also though! I didn’t know you could buy vinyl in sheets like that.

Too bad plywood isn't $16 bucks anymore! It's $50-65 now in California.

could also skip the top layer of ply wood and use the vinal in place to give that vinal flooring look
and would cut back on the weight of dual layered plywood

I just watched your video on 4 years sober. I thing you might be at 5 by now. Excellent pro/con list. I think your have a great understanding of your changes since sobriety. I will be rooting for you from now on. I have made it to year 37 and can barely remember who I was before getting sober. I only know that I still love e my life even though I'm 77 and just suffered thru 4 years of care taking of my Husband. He is now in Memory care and my life is blooming again. I will be joining you on the road sometime next fall. My Bill still remembers who I am and I don't want to leave him long periods of time. Keep up your process of flowering into the rest of your life. I'll be watching you.

Good job! One thing I would suggest when doing the vinyl flooring: lay a bunch of newspaper in the back and tape it together and trim it to the exact size that you want the vinyl to be. Then use it as a template on top of the vinyl and cut it. Then there's no question that you will have the perfect size and cuts. 😉

I am so glad you are doing these videos. I have been wanting to do this and I was overwhelmed with how people were spending 40-60K on these van builds in expensive sprinters and I was like how would I afford that and this makes since. I am feeling so much more confident in just getting something less expensive and just doing what I can do and when I have more saved then get more later. These videos are a life saver. Thanks.

Girl, I loved this one. BTW I'm in Portland & retiring soon and am thinking of doing the same as you. Have watched beaucoup videos myself.....but my "handy skills" are no better than yours. The two most important thoughts that I've gleaned from all the videos I've seen are; start out with the most basic rig and out fit it with what you already own....and see if you really enjoy this (life style?). Second; 95% of the folks that like it, change their rig after one year. Even if they bought a sweet already customized van/trailer/camper.

I'm just laying down a sheet of 1/2" plywood as a floor; already removed those plastic seat railing things(come on payday! lol). Gonna cover the plywood with a real short pile carpet, maybe like a beige or gray indoor/outdoor carpet. If I wanna add some color/style I can always put down some decorative throw rugs or something.

  • @vangazmicvoyage5077
    @vangazmicvoyage5077 3 года назад +1

If you ever need to do this again and you want a close fit, make a template first from craft paper. Use packing tape to join pieces together to cover the width and length of your floor.
Then tape it down so it won't slide around and push the paper into the corners and sides and crease it real hard.
Then cut the paper out along the creases. If it needs a little adjusting you can add strips with tape or cut to fit as needed.
When your template fits nicely to the contours of your floor, lay the template on your vinyl, trace the edges and cut the vinyl along your trace lines.

I saw someone use a gauge like this... They used scrap cardboard and traced on it to get the template and used that to cut the vinyl ...
It still wasn't totally perfect, but seemed easier. I got one, even though I might not be ready to use it for awhile... I'm hoping to use it to wrap my bed frame around those bulky caravan extreme wheel wells... so obnoxious lol
I have stow seats too, trying to figure out if I'm leaving them in, or if I really want the trunk space. Feeling daunted about covering up the extraction mess though. Really loved seeing you take this challenge head on ♡

From the seats to the back window is approximately 4ft x 8ft.

Great job on your flooring. Where did you get the rubber mat?

How is the floor holding up? I'm really curious.

Really good so far! Will probably have to replaced the duct tape in a while or just figure out how to put it under the plastic siding. (:

@@MyBasicJourney Thanks! Let us know. I read online that Coroplast plastic cardboard (the material used in signs) work well under the floor to air it out and prevent mold
