    Change out thumb tacks , they will loosen eventually use screws they also will hold better.
    But great job , you will learn what works and your not afraid to try .
    Most people are afraid to fail so they never do anything.

      For sure screws! as a back up don’t let them go , because as you go down roads and everything jiggles the tacks will come out. 💕💕

    Drill some holes in the plywood to allow ventilation so mold wont grow on the mattress.

    And yes try screws to hold Hong better. Tacks will eventually loosen up
    Eventually whenever you can , try to invest in a power screw gun. It is wonderful.
    Thanks for sharing

    My local home depot wont do cuts either. Very disappointing. I have problems with my wrists so even with power tools its difficult. I think you are showing people that arent carpenters or builders that we can make things too.

  • @lindaconlin7807
    @lindaconlin7807 4 года назад +5

    Wow! You did really well for someone who doesn't have any carpentry skill. I love how you build the bed. Simple and inexpensive. Please be safe wherever you will be staying. Especially when you go camping and hiking. There are hundreds of people mysteriously missing in National forests in the US (I have been watching series of videos about it). There are quite a few people missing on the Columbia River Gorge trails. Please be safe.

    • @cherannretiredgran68
      @cherannretiredgran68 2 года назад +1

      I saw a few of the missing, found, who done its, and decided to quit watching them. I would never go anywhere again. Be aware of your surroundings. Like being raise in the city w street gangs every 3 to 5 blocks (in the late 60s, people got too gun crazed) buddy up, dbl, triple up even. Carry pepper spray, mace if permitted by law in whichever state your in. A tazer. But unless you're very strong, somewhat strong, and/or practiced in martial arts or street fighting (both are good) a gun is better than a knife. The perpetrators get the edge by taking one by surprise. Suddenly, or by making acquaintance and bumping into, or meeting up with you later. Take extra old phones and use the cameras as security cameras. Learn how to inspect two way mirrors. Look for hidden cameras. Sometimes it's a park or hotel employee, manager, someone from a local store, bar, even a ranger or law officer. 🤔 Helps to be able to read people's faces, eyes, listen to voice tones, inflections, pitch, and nervous behaviors/tics. Happy camping is like go, but go safely. Take a few self-defense classes.
      Never open your door after dark, even if you are a a group of 3 or 4. But it can simply be anyone.

    I think you did a great job!! The bed set up sounds like it will work perfectly for you. I've heard that screws hold better than nails over the long run, though I'm no expert either. I think it's the vibration and swelling of the wood that can push the nails out over time. You can always switch them out later, if you find it's a problem.

    • @MyBasicJourney
      @MyBasicJourney  5 лет назад +3

    Nice job. Your a smart/wise young lady. Draw the plans out. Design, measure, and measure again. I wan a bed 65"L x 22-23"W. With storage underneath abd as you said, room to sit on the bed w/out crouching.
    Love your positive thinking attitude. I quit watching builds as I didn't think I would want one. But this might change my mind. At 66 and heath problems (knees, back, neck, ...) I won't want to be crawling around for too much longer. So I could definitely see me trying then.
    I can't wait to see your set up when your done. #happytravels

    I also watch some Bob Wells but my wife and I really enjoy your channel. I am 63 yrs. old and I would love to travel around before we get too old. I have a 1994 Ford club wagon xlt that started out as a church bus. Then someone used it as a work van and I rescued it from a pawn shop. Anyway if I could ask a question it would be, "how do you get mail. I mean I watched a video of you going to the post office. But if you won't be in the same spot for long, then how does post office work????" This may be a stupid question or perhaps I have missed something.

      I’m actually in the construction field and you did a ok job with what you had to work with. I’m impressed. The only problem I foresee you having is with using those thumb tacks for the piano hinge. To be on the safe side I would use nails on the end holes and maybe one set of holes in the middle. But that’s just my opinion.

    You did a great job Chantel. You can get a basic screw gun for $20 so that you can change out the tacks for screws. The tacks are not really biting into the wood in order to hold it together. Screws are stronger than nails. I have a couple of questions about your cut list that I don't understand. You have 1 cut that is 70" X 28" and that's the width and length of the bed right? Then you have 2 other measurements listed beside that. 70" X 20" and the other one is 48" X 26". Is the 70" X 28" the base of the bed that the piano hinge screws into and you use that to lift up so you can access the bin storage underneath and the 70" X 20" is the top part that the hinge screws into? I don't get what the 48" X 26" is for. On the 1 X 2's I get the 70" cut,but I am lost on the 6-25" cuts. I appreciate you answering my questions by breaking down the measurements.

    I DONT UNDERSTAND WHY DO YOU HAVE TO LIFT IT??? YOU CAN PUT TOTES SLIDE THEM RIGHT THERE UNDERNEATH AND PULL THEM OUT. IF YOU CANT REACH ONE BECAUSE OF FUTURE FURNITURE THEN TAKE OUT THE TOTES FROM SLIDING UNDERNEATH AND REACH TO SIDE FOR THE OTHER ONE. OR BUY THOSE TOTES THAT ARE LONG THAT SLIDE UNDER THE BED
    JUST OTHER IDEAS. INSTEAD OF LIFTING TOP. I LOVE THE FLOOR AND ADDED PAD FOR WARMTH. I HOPE MAYBE YOU CAN FIND WHAT THEY CALL A DORMITORY TWIN FOR YOUR BED THEY ARE THINNER

      In retrospect, I didnt need it to lift. I haven't lifted it once. There's storage under the left side (not slide out bins) so it is helpful when I need to get to that, but I haven't had to yet. Haha if I ever build a bed again, I won't be adding the lift. Mostly the handle just gets in the way and drives me mad. Lol

    Hi I just recently purchased the same van and same color. I will be using your videos as a guide and will do the same for flooring and bed build. Do you still have the measurements for the bed ?

    What were the measurements for your bed? For all the wood pieces?
