Thank you so much Michelle, I am so glad you liked the build! As you can guess, I am also not a fan of long intros either. I know there is a lot of the cult of personalities involved in youtube popularity, but sometimes it is at the expense of getting the content!
Honestly very impressed with how well this was put together, and I don't "thumbs up" most van tours. For a minivan, this was well built with attention to detail, for the most part.
Thanks for the compliments and for the thumbs up! It has been a labour of love. (Really curious about the " for the most part" which parts, maybe I'll go fix them...)
@@averysmallcampervan I was tired last night and hesitant to even say that. I just have a few concerns. Like the relay to charge off the alternator. I have even seen Bob Wells do that, but it wears on your alternator if it's pulling too much and can destroy the alternator over time if it's constantly pulling the top amperage. A DC to DC charger is the best route, and it can top off the battery to the best voltage, although you do have solar, which can also do that, and means less demand from the alternator. Otherwise, I'm in love and jealous of your electrical work. I don't think I'll do that much with my own van. I'm being too judgey, and I'm sorry I said that. I wouldn't even go to the extent of work that you have with the intricacies of your wood work. It's very aesthetically appealing and something to be proud of! Kind of like when I asked another tattoo artist about the tattoo my friend did. He said he saw something wrong, but asked, "Are you happy with it? That's all that matters." I also really love the idea about the check list. I know that would help if I took something in to clean, just to make sure I had everything. The solar panel idea is great! I will probably be putting a ladder rack on mine, but that's a great way to reduce drag.
@@DeliberateNRandom I appreciate the feed back about the battery isolator. A couple of years ago when I was planning this, DC to DC chargers were not readily available or at least I did not come across mention of them. I am not too worried about it, or at least not worried enough to buy a B2B charger. The other thing I would like to change is to swap the thermoelectric cooler for a real compressor fridge, but again I am not ready to spend over $1000 to upgrade it. I was warned that it was less efficient but tried to do it on the cheap.
Thank you for taking the time to do this tour. Your van just gets better and better. The woodwork is beautiful. Our setup is very amateur but at least it functions well. I plan to use your method for screening our wing windows. Thank you. Safe travels.
The important thing is having fun camping with it! I also have fun doing the woodworking, but it is a skill I have + access to tools. I am glad you have enjoyed the videos.
WOW! Brilliant use of space and wood. Outstanding design for your kitchen cabinetry. Best I have seen in Minivan kitchens. And I like how you thought of things like the loop for dripping water coming down that cable from the solar panel.
Takes a lot of planning and looking at other builds to figure out what I needed, then a lot of testing and rebuilding ! Thanks for watching, I hope it is helpful for your SUV camper.
Did you use 1/2 inch or 3/4 inch ply wood? Don't rely on the lever to disengage the butane. Once time I did the lever, turned the burner over, and started to put it away. My burner was still very hot and it should not have been. I looked closely and there was a teeny, tiny little flame. The bottle had stayed attached even though all of the safety features were working as designed. Now I physically verify the can is pulled away and I visually verify there is no flame.
Re: plywood - I used 3/4 inch for the bed parts, 1/2 inch for the bench and some parts of the kitchen and 3/8 in for the upper boxes and the drawers. I try to use the lightest wood that I can for the strength needed. And thanks for the heads up re: the butane. I'll be double checking it from now on.
Wow! Both the setup and this tour are wonderfully well done-models of excellence, at both tasks. Thank you for sharing. Hope you and yours have many wonderful adventures with this sweet rig.
Thank you so much for the tour. You did an excellent job and gave me many ideas for my 2006 Honda Odyssey conversion. Love your channel, and looking forward to your next video. Ciao.
I love your little camper it goes to show people can do it if they're dreaming of campervan life no need to have that fancy and expensive converted van. I love everything in your van the storage, the toilet, absolutely pretty and useful.
I'm obsessed with having the set up come out partly because our first prototype build was made for rented minivans. So you can start simple and see what it is like before taking the plunge of buying a van. I have a couple of videos of the first set up if you want some ideas: ruclips.net/video/fUqP7a_7XEk/видео.html and ruclips.net/video/gzmwYv66104/видео.html
One of the most innovative and sensible builds I’ve ever seen. Console is genius, as well as on/off switches throughout. Simple and elegant solar setup with roof panel installation. Can’t say enough of how impressive it is. Kudos to design and build.
I've watched a lot of van build videos, and this is one of the very best for so many reasons: video and audio quality and length, voiceover jam-packed with useful info (and no fillers), incredibly well thought-out built and, most importantly, you did it all yourself! Carpentry and electrical are two things I've never mastered, and you are inspiring me to jump in and figure it out (do you teach classes??)! Well done - very impressed!
Glad you enjoyed it! Thanks for the kind feedback. I am starting to get the feeling that I am not the only one who likes their informative youtube videos to be to the point, without long intros to fast forward through. And yes - jump in, but find some videos to watch that show you step by step. One thing I recommend if you are starting out in carpentry and don't have tools, it to plan the pieces you need and have them cut at a big box hardware store. Sometimes they charge for the cuts, but it is great to have all the pieces cut with nice straight edges. Then you can screw them together at home. (predrill, then screw if possible, to avoid splitting the wood) Good luck!
In 2014 I purchased a new Chrysler Town and Country minivan. Since then, its main use has been to transport my grandkids and mom. However, the day will come when I convert it to a camper van (which is the REAL reason I purchased the van). I’ve watched countless minivan conversion videos and by far this is the most impressive. Great job!!!
Thanks so much!! As for the electrical knowledge, all the 12v battery related stuff I learned from youtube! Be patient and keep watching videos and what was completely baffling may become clearer...

I agree completely with so many others on here..... A very thorough video, that is well put together with a lot of thought and is very articulate without a bunch of none sense stuff that we don't care about...lol! And no annoying music thank you so much for that especially! And the build! The mini van camper van.... You know, I LOVE IT!! I really do! I thought what the heck... ENOUGH room for one to sleep with nothing else.... Well what a nice surprise!!! Bed big enough for two if you don't mind being close! And the kitchen.... Omg! I love the kitchen!! That is the cutest darn thing. Sure it's an outside kitchen but heck, you're camping right! Plus with the tailgate opening up like that it's perfect little shelter! Got your clothes all organized too!!! And even an emergency potty! Check, check, check, and check!! Ready to camp huh!! Happy and Safe camping to you.... Cheers!
I am impressed. I want to do that. I have a 2019 encore. Wanting a Ford transit or a van. You have inspired Ed me. However I do have questions about the electrical work. I know I can do it myself did you do it yourself or did you have someone do it? I am going to look at your other videos
Hi, yes I did all the electrical myself, but only after watching countless videos and reading up on how all the parts work together; wire sizes for different power draws, where to put fuses, etc., So yes you can do it, but you need to do your homework first. It's 12 volts but a full size battery packs a lot of amps. I did a video of my electrical set up when I added my battery monitor, it is pretty detailed: ruclips.net/video/Kt8Rxu5yPMs/видео.html
Thanks Karen, I am glad you like it. The solar panels, battery and such do start to add up, but I tried to keep it simple. One day I might try to do a cost breakdown.

Your van is great! You’ve definitely thought of everything! I think it’s awesome! Thank you for taking the time to show us. I wish you health, happiness and safety on your travels!!
❤️💜💚
Thanks - so sweet, best to you too

This is the most ingenious (practical and well-thought-out) van build I have ever seen! Kudos.
Thanks so much Judith!
That level is such a genius detail, I'm surprised this is the first time I've seen that.
Thanks!
Wow this is so impressive. I'd love to do this but my expertise extend as far as lying down the seats and bringing a sleeping bag lol. Thanks for showing us ❤
Brilliant! Absolutely brilliant! Your attention to detail is impeccable. Fantastic job! I'd pay you to outfit my Toyota Sienna any day. 👍😃
Thanks - so glad you like the video
I’ve probably watched thousands of van build videos and that is the best mini van build I’ve ever seen, all things considered. I’m very impressed with the kitchen, the wiring components and that bed looks very comfortable. Bravo!
Thanks 👍
OMG! This is absolute genius! So organized and such a great use of all the space. I also love that you focused on the vehicle without a long introduction. The whole build is awesome but I especially love the kitchen! AMAZING!!
That's all that matters."
I also really love the idea about the check list.
Best I've seen in a small van. You rock!
Thanks Patricia, I but my heart and soul into the build :-)
Well thought out build.
Thanks! I've been working and reworking it for years now!
WOW! Brilliant use of space and wood. Outstanding design for your kitchen cabinetry. Best I have seen in Minivan kitchens. And I like how you thought of things like the loop for dripping water coming down that cable from the solar panel.
This is amazing! I wish I had someone with your expertise to help me build out my suv as a camper! You have thought of everything! Great job!
Takes a lot of planning and looking at other builds to figure out what I needed, then a lot of testing and rebuilding ! Thanks for watching, I hope it is helpful for your SUV camper.
You could sell blueprints for this build. I can't do the work but I could hire it done. 😉
Very impressive build and great, informative video. Thank you for taking the time to share. Very grateful
This is the highest level, most clever build I've seen yet.
Wow! Both the setup and this tour are wonderfully well done-models of excellence, at both tasks. Thank you for sharing. Hope you and yours have many wonderful adventures with this sweet rig.
Wow! Some of the most ingenious ideas I've ever seen for lightweight car and van camping. Thank you for taking the time to film and edit and share!
Thank you so much for the tour. You did an excellent job and gave me many ideas for my 2006 Honda Odyssey conversion. Love your channel, and looking forward to your next video. Ciao.
Glad to help! I already have videos of most of the steps of the build if you check out the playlist at the end or go to my channel page.
@@averysmallcampervan Thanks I have viewed most, and they are great too!
Wow, I have never before seen so many wonderful and expertly executed ideas in one van before! New subscriber.
This is great. Thank you! Her skill set is far beyond mine! :)
Thanks - glad you liked it
I love your little camper it goes to show people can do it if they're dreaming of campervan life no need to have that fancy and expensive converted van.
The best simple but have practically everything that you need on the road.💯👍
Yes! Everything in its place is nice too.
One of the most innovative and sensible builds I’ve ever seen. Console is genius, as well as on/off switches throughout. Simple and elegant solar setup with roof panel installation.
Can’t say enough of how impressive it is. Kudos to design and build.
Thanks so much! That console is one of my favorite parts! It feels like part of the van and I have to remind myself that I built it.
(predrill, then screw if possible, to avoid splitting the wood)
Good luck!
@@averysmallcampervan Excellent advice; thank you!
So many clever details, but what I love the most is the bullseye level. Brilliant!
It is very useful - I just wish it was lit up - always trying to see it in the dark when arriving at a campsite :-(
I am soooo in love with your kitchen and your organization
I'm like, yes, this, all this, this is great.
Thank you for sharing
You are so welcome!
Hey, you can always start simple, with a set up that can be taken out - no sense waiting!
Wow! Great tour, thanks for sharing. Just what i need.
Glad it was helpful!
Girl!!!...you got it going on!! I love your design and organization skills! I’m jelly about your electrical knowledge. Great 👍 job!!
Thanks so much!!
As for the electrical knowledge, all the 12v battery related stuff I learned from youtube! Be patient and keep watching videos and what was completely baffling may become clearer...
I love this. Very comfortable looking for 2 people.
It is! It is a lovely way to get away just the two of us.
SWEET! Ford Transit Connect van, 2010-2013, lots of problems. Mostly the trans. My search for a Dodge Grand Caravan has begun! Thank you very much for this video, also other videos of how you did it. You are amazing!
Absolutely loved that video and your build. I am impressed with everything you did and love the woodwork too.
Thank you very much! Good to hear from you - I'm enjoying you channel too
Holy smacks! I'm blown away by the ingenuity! Front to back, top to bottom! 👏🏾 👏🏾 👏🏾 👏🏾
Wow, thank you!
Great setup! 👍
Thanks! 👍
This build is amazing and it took me about 3 seconds to guess somebody was an engineer and a carpenter. It is too professional. WELL DONE!
Love it, good job 👏👏👏👏
Thank you! 😊

Cheers!
What an inspiration! Thank you!
You are so welcome! Thank you
Your kitchen set up is the best I have seen I love it !
I am impressed. I want to do that. I have a 2019 encore. Wanting a Ford transit or a van. You have inspired Ed me. However I do have questions about the electrical work. I know I can do it myself did you do it yourself or did you have someone do it? I am going to look at your other videos
Hi, yes I did all the electrical myself, but only after watching countless videos and reading up on how all the parts work together; wire sizes for different power draws, where to put fuses, etc.,
So yes you can do it, but you need to do your homework first. It's 12 volts but a full size battery packs a lot of amps.
I did a video of my electrical set up when I added my battery monitor, it is pretty detailed: ruclips.net/video/Kt8Rxu5yPMs/видео.html
Love this! This is so simple, doable, and budget friendly.
Thanks Karen, I am glad you like it. The solar panels, battery and such do start to add up, but I tried to keep it simple.
One day I might try to do a cost breakdown.
@@averysmallcampervan Yes, please. I'm already subscribed to your channel. Hoping for more videos. Always keep safe and healthy.
I use Jackery 500 Power Station.
I've never tried them. How many amp hours does that one hold?
@@averysmallcampervan 500 Wh at 12V is about 42 Ah.
I love your set up with the bed taking the right amount of space and the kitchen in the back!! Bravo! We need more Canadian content! Anyone from Ontario? I want to start living this lifestyle weekends only until I retire then 8 or 9 months of the year!
This is one of the most practical and smart mini-van camper builds I've seen.
Thanks so much!
You really did a great job building all that stuff. Everything looks so nice and neat.
Thank you Melba
You should be so proud of your build. You've thought of everything!
Thanks! It was a few years in the making!
Loved your video. So nice to be able to hear the words clearly without loud background music. Totally enjoyed watching.
This woman must of been a electrician. Loved everything about this van. Every inch has a purpose.
So glad you liked it!
Amazing job. Congratulations! The electrical work is impressive but the wood work is really amazing. I'm motivated
Toilet is ingenious! Many features are! Also the black out curtain install - brilliant!
Very well thought through conversion. Metal strapping on roof and magnets for the curtains is simply genius. Level is another brilliant touch. So many clever ideas in this video. Thank you for sharing.
