MINIVAN CAMPER CONVERSION | DODGE GRAND CARAVAN STOW N' GO | CREATION IDEAS

  • We converted a Dodge Grand Caravan into a minivan camper for our trip across Canada.
    We mostly used recycled pieces of wood and saved money wherever possible.
    It was such an interesting project and we hope it will inspire you and give ideas to those who wish to convert their van into a minivan camper as well.
    We were inspired by and would like to thank "Eric enjoys Earth" , "Travels with Rob" and "My backpackerlife.com" for their ideas.

    Great job ! I "stealthed" and "solared" a Dodge Grand Caravan, differently, but equally stealthy, and functional. "Different strokes . . . ."

    Amazing van building skills I see everyone do such amazing things but after living in a camper for almost 6 months I’d say the most important thing on my mind is proper insulation over all else

    • @medogandcatadventure
      @medogandcatadventure Год назад +5

      Exactly. Staying warm at night was my biggest concern. I used untreated sheep wool to insulate my car and I’m warm in 7F at night. Not even using a winter sleeping bag. A blanket from Rumpel is on top of it and that’s all. I’m glad I spent the extra $$.

    After studying Eric Enyoys Earth's videos we've now almost finished our Dodge grand caravan conversion! With the extra challenge of being able to keep the first passenger seats out to travel with extra family members when necessary! We're using self-locking hinges for the extra legs, but I love your idea to keep them attached to the front panel and narrow enough to fit into the frame in sofa mode. Especially since the hinges weren't easy to come by. And I totally agree on the price on adjustable table legs. We also went the DIY route, but went for square aluminum legs instead of wood.

      Hi Sheryl, that's cool that you plan on living the van life. It did change my way of experiencing travel. We lived and traveled in three different size vehicles. Honda-CRV, Dodge grand caravan and Toyota Hiace. To me it depends on your needs but I would say by experience that the longer the trip the more space you'll want. Don't underestimate the luxury of being able to stand up ;)

    I've got a 2019 Dodge Caravan & what I'm doing is removing very back seat so that I can install a Honda generator & diesel heater in the plastic tub. Doing some other neat things too like ducting inlet & outlet fans so as to remove heat from the generator. Obviously I'll get an extension exhaust hose to vent the CO from the generator.. still figuring out best way to make a sealed flooring door so I can work on the generator when I need to. I don't want CO / carbon monoxide to kill me either.

    Are the reflective covers inserted BETWEEN the rear side windows & bug screens when parked or are they semi permanently installed there? If the latter, then wouldn't the reflectix move or fly out when driving? Either way, how are they held in place? I have my bug screens slipped between the rubber window frames & plastic wall edges

    • @flogowizda3649
      @flogowizda3649  Год назад

      Hi Dee, the reflective covers are between the bug screens and the windows. They can be removed from the outside (so semi-permanently installed) but we just leave them in place while we drive. They don't fly out because we always keep the windows closed when we're driving. Our bug screens are between the rubber frames and plastic edges too, so the covers sit just behind them. They're held in place mainly by the small horizontal cut for the window handle to open and close them, and by the windows when they're closed for driving. Since they're small and light they're pretty easy to keep in place.
      I hope I answered all of your questions :)
