Jack you are honestly ageing like fine wine. This has been a public service announcement thank u
He is very handsome...Jack pls chill
"Metaphors and shit". We very much like those. I am always impressed by the attention to detail and it's wonderful getting to experience the song and the video through the eyes of you - the director.
thank you Sophie
Jack: creates video about video editing, cinematography and directing
Also Jack: so that bit of me drinking water would be great for the video
Was I wrong?
This comment was what was in my head. And no Jack. You were not wrong.
METAPHORS AND SHIT 😂😂😂 thanks for being the best director everrrr!!!
Thanks for trusting me
Congrats mate, crushing it!
Thank you man! Love your shit :)
@@JackHoward I didn't know this was the crossover I wanted, but here we are.
@@JackHoward cheers Jack really appreciate it!
The joy and passion that you speak about film with is just contagious and makes me watch everything I've ever seen through a new lens...
really love this style of video! so entertaining and a great look into what directors actually do
Thank you, glad you enjoyed it
I am literally never going to hear the end of that.
im a film student at sixth form and ive always found it really difficult to get inspired or motivated or even come up with ideas but jack always somehow motivates me to make something to the best of my abilities
These music videos were so amazing, my favourite part was that I could really see your voice coming through both of them!
I love watching your videos because it’s so clear how much you love what you do and how much you love films in general and it gives me so much joy watching/listening to someone so passionate, speaking about what they’re passionate about. so thank you for doing what you do, it’s inspiring!
I'm so glad you did a full behind-the-scenes video! I've been absolutely loving seeing how you work with music and the videos you've created! I did a musicology thesis for my bachelor's (and I've been watching your content since before Project: Library & I'm now currently in library school lol) so this is definitely a world I'm truly fascinated by. I really hope you get more opportunities for music videos, I think you're really talented at it!
Hey Jack, I live in a completely different part of the world (Wisconsin, USA) but I'm also a music video director, and it was really refreshing hearing you talk about the craft. The part about properly absorbing the song and finding how to complement it with what you want to bring as a director, is something I fully subscribe to. It truly is one of the most "collaborating" forms that filmmaking can take. Also referencing movies and doing "other-wordly" stuff is easier or more embraced in the music video medium, there's a lot to play with as a director. Really happy to see you exercising more directors' muscles. Shows that you're truly in tune with all aspects of filmmaking. Cheers, man. x
Seen the Wes Anderson influence immediately! Absolutely loved both vids
This is super super interesting! esp as an art student, I love seeing behind the scenes stuff for other art disciplines
absolutely loved this!! would love to see more behind the scenes of any upcoming and future projects :)
Loved this video!
I initially listened to Leadley's song then watched the video but heard the song for the first time when watching the Glass Caves' video and it did change the meaning for me.
With Love Me Like that, just on one listen it was really easy to not hear the slight bitter sweet style of the song and it really clicked when I saw the video.
With Who are you, I feel now listening back I really feel that sense of turmoil - the scene where he stares into the mirror particularly sticks out (also the crack from the edge of each mirror running down his face really added to that).
Just thought it was really cool how a visual to accompany a song can enhance the message of the song and have a lasting effect on a piece of music even when just having the audio.
Really like how well the music video and song for love me like that tell the same story in different ways. Plus me and my sis watched Grease loads as kids so it's cool seeing that classic scene done in a new way.
I love this, thank you Jack! As an aspiring cinematographer I love seeing what different shoots are like. So cool!!!
THIS. this is quality youtube that i miss
I always love your content! As an indie artist I love seeing breakdowns and behind the scenes like these :)
I’ve been thinking about how I wanna get into directing music videos lately so this video absolutely came at such a good time, thank you jack x ur smaaashing it x
I just started writing a script for a mv yesterday.. So this is pretty helpful, thank you!!
wicked work Jack! and it's so important that you've worked with friends - in front and behind the camera! makes me miss making films with friends back at university, not just because they're my friends, but because they work so hard, they're so talented, so professional and I just love seeing good things come together. excuse me while I take a quick break to go cry about talented people - keep making good shit!
Thank you Gemma x
Look at that hair! Lockdown suits you! I have been obsessed with Love Me Like That since it came out - cracking job the pair of ya!
every project you're involved in is just so amazing!
"Its midnight and I'm frying bacon because..." *ADS* WHY IS HE FRYING BACON?!
Jack why WERE you frying bacon?
For the musicvideo
I love Glass Caves! Will definitely check the video out now!
SO nice to see you being so successful jack!!! And you look like you're having a great time too :)
wow. I just went and watched them both and they look absolutely incredible
More like this please!! So motivational
This is the first time I have ever commented on one of your videos, even though I have been following your journey since the Fac-e-book days and when RUclips was a bloody brilliant community that could meet in parks around London and just chill. All I have to say is I studied film at University but you have always taught me more than any of my 3 years at uni and your journey has just been so creatively inspiring. Yourself and Stef Michelak just are full of incredible knowledge and I just essentially want to say thank you. There may be many more people like me who are just silent watchers but your content does really mean a lot and is fantastic, so yes, thank you.
Wow!! Hello Katie :) Thank you for sticking around x
@@JackHoward Thank you for your videos!
absolutely amazing
Loved this video, and I'd love to see more like this! Even more details from behind the scenes please
So I just watched both music videos and I'm writing this comment before I watch this video. You did such a good job on both! I just loved the direction and thought they were amazing.
You are a very talented creator, I can’t wait to see more.
Hi. I thoroughly enjoy hearing about how you make your videos. Make more of these please. Kthx.
Fully thought you were james mcavoy for a second but super excited for this!!
I would love to see him direct a movie, or a short movie, I don't mind
I love seeing the psychology seeping through each of the stories you're telling, and as a psychology student, I couldn't help myself and I had to overanalyze certain aspects of the music video (for example, the friends in the Ledley video, could they be a representation of the ego/ID/superego? or am I reading too much into this?)
Anyways, I love the stuff that you're doing and I hope to see more projects from you in the future.
You are not reading too much into it. You are reading exactly the right amount into it. That is exactly what I was thinking of when making it. I feel very validated :))
this is so cool man! massive congrats 🎉
Holy shit, when I went and watched the music videos after you told me to, during the Glass Caves one I thought "huh, this reminds me a little of Wes Anderson" - and then you quote Wes as an inspiration for it - I KNEW IT!
Love this!!
hey i love all of your videos and both music videos were amazing, thanks for introducing me to such cool things all the time :)
Brilliant video Jack, thanks for sharing your experience.
Thanks for watching Tom :)
Wasn't really a "guide" so much as a "look at this thing I did, neat ideas, aye?"
Which is fine, I enjoyed the video.
BUT, I myself am planning a music video for my upcoming title track and was ACTUALLY hoping for real tips and tricks in making one.
I'm bad at titles
change the video title mr howard, you're not trying to be misleading on purpose.... ARE YOU!?!?!?!
Gonna give these a watch. They look good.
This is SO interesting! I much prefer that format than the folks who say "oh hai I made a thing" and... just link to the thing. I love the insight and anecdotes... and the metaphors and shit (I lost it when you said that LOL)
Cause I don't have a creative bone in my body, I've never been overly interested in this side of music production, mainly because my mind isn't inclined to think that way, but your enthusiasm for this element of the creative process is so endearing and inspiring. I could listen to you talk about this shit all day
I’m gonna have to make a music video for college at some point this year (covid-permitting) so this video is super helpful! The main issue I feel like I’m gonna have is the fact that I’m so bad at picking up on the meanings and subtleties of songs in comparisons to films. Like I’ll happily analyse every single frame of The Shining but when it comes to music, my train of thought is just ‘that sounds good. lemme listen to it on repeat for a month.’ Hopefully it’ll all work out! I’m sure I’ll be coming back to this video a lot! Congrats on all the recent projects man.
Thanks Callum. My advice (even tho you haven’t asked for it) is to focus on the emotion. What’s the music making you feel? What’s it reminding you of? Who Are You reminded me of times when I’ve been so low but been able to pick myself back up with the help of good friends. I told that story but made it about a boxer and a trainer.
JackHoward Oh the advice is most definitely welcome man, thanks! And yeah I’m sure if I pick a song I really love it’ll all fall into place. I may end up working with a local band that I’m friends with (Cage Park if you wanna check them out on streaming) so in that case they’ll be able to give me insight on what the song means and then hopefully I can translate that into my own interpretation.
Love this.
Love me like that has to be one of my favourite music videos of the year :)
wow thank you Joe
Wow you did great, love the music videos!
it's so interesting to see insights into your job it's like one of the view things that i can see myself doing in the future haha
Anyone else just expecting "The Good, The Bad and the just plain sh!t parts of 2020" to be....interesting?
So talented
ugh, brilliant.
There are two things I don't understand in this video, perhaps I'm being obtuse but:
1. "Capital T, capital S?" Huh?
2. At 8:07 Jack mentions a "cute video", what am I missing because to me it's just a video of a door?
1. The Situation. Y’know. The Situation!
2. It’s a video of a door, yes. But behind that door, Jacob is rehearsing. You can hear him restarting the song - adorable!
When is Jack never gonna make a bad video? This was so insightful and interesting
I am VERY excited for this video
I was not disappointed.
@@itsshyshy
Dude, how are you so good at everything?
Most DVD extras these days are featurettes advertising the film you just watched.
Was wondering how you pulled off that "family trap"-effect so flawlessly, with handheld camera moves and everything, in a relatively low budget music video. As a fellow Nolan fan, I should have known...
5:37 (Back to the Future music plays)
hehehehe couldn't help myself
I can't believe I am this early wow. Also nice video
It feels so long ago since you had a corsa full of bananas and mario in the boot.
Congratulations
Soo cool
Yessssd
Oh Jack. Please can we see that whole animatic. Please, Jack Howard
I might upload to instagram this weekend hahaha
@@JackHoward Good man. Ly *hugs & kisses*
Being a tv student in her final year this was great, I was wondering what you felt about working with Bethan, who you know, compared to Glass Caves. Was one easier or harder or can you completely zone out the relationship and focus on the work
Glad you enjoyed! They were just different processes but both artists allowed me the space to make something I wanted to make, which I really appreciated ✌️
love it. love you. mwah.
the cats ahahah
💖
Is that the return of Make The Fratocrats Argue at 8:11?
An attempt ;)
Too bad I live in Texas and don’t have money because you directing a music video for one of my songs would be absolutely everything !!
You gonna start writing again? I like this mix of your advise and your ability
👍👍👍
??? Wish I had this when I was doing film in grade 10 lol
wait jack lives with mike and jacob now??? crazy times
I’m just out here wondering why Jack fries his bacon one slice at a time
I love bubba gump pop
not as guide-y as i would have liked, but still a great video. :D
I couldn’t give away my step by step process
that i definitely have lol
but srsly i think this gives you as much insight as I was comfortable with sharing without feeling too self indulgent
@@JackHoward Fair enough. Obviously there is still plenty to take away from your video. Primarily, having the music lead the visuals, whether it is the explicit glitch cutting in 'Love me like that', or the implicit use of a "manly" wrestling ring for "unmanly" dancing in 'Who are you?' (creating a juxtaposition which, imo, represents the final acceptance of oneself past one's own insecurities of not being "man enough", tying into the moral concept of the song)... I'm starting to see why you said that this might seem self indulgent, lol
By the way, it's lovely thinking about how you were up past 4am talking to me 😊
You see? You got ALL THAT and I didn’t have to spoon feed it to you.
Hold the fuck up, glass caves !!!!???
YEAH! :)
@@JackHoward i've seen em live they're so good !!
Love your work, miss jack and dean tho, what happened to yall?
Jack kinda looks like Jude Law here
3:40 is that a Sundance Film Festival water bottle?
It is. I was accepted into and took part in a Sundance Lab in 2018.
@@JackHoward Oh cool! I was working as theatre staff that year, got one of those bottles myself haha
whats..whats TS at 6:00
Hello :)
is dean ok? and you know... are you ok?
I know it’s been said already but I was hoping for more practical guidance
Get Jacob Collier on your Amazon Music show and you'll have a new viewer...
dodie who again?
So propably everyone here knows the answer but what has happened to jack and Dean channel. Did the content just got postponed due to covid or what
Basically yes
@@JackHoward well hope everything gets better and all keep up the gud work
Where does the funding come from for something like this, like even for choreographers and art directors? Is it just know the right people kinda thing?
The budgets for both music videos were incredibly low. I directed both for free. I got my usual bunch to make them as more passion projects for lower rates where everyone gets paid the same.
@@JackHoward hmmm interesting interesting, so you're telling me i need friends, interesting.
No but genuinely interesting thanks!
