It’s something about “For Good”. Especially with Idina and Kristin together they really did do something special with those characters. Now yes there have been more proclaimed vocal “Powerhouses” that took on the role but it’s the raw emotion and acting talent that they brought every night that can’t be replaced. They are best to ever do it.
"Tonight" is my favorite song in _West Side Story._ it's very sweet and beautiful when you hear it the first time, and oh so tragic yet still beautiful every time after that.
"Nowadays", sung by Velma Kelly & Roxie Hart in "Chicago". "Bosom Buddies" sung by Mame Dennis & Vera Charles in "Mame". "Written in the Stars" sung by Aida & Radames in "Aida".
Lily's eyes!! That song is breath taking. Do you love me never fails to make me cry. Such a great song. Everything from Cinderella is enchanting! The Confrontation is so powerful! For Good is the best friend song for the ages. Anything Sutton Foster does is fabulous! Thanks for the wonderful time!
All I Ask Of You is another amazing duet. It is one of my favorite love songs of all time and other than the main theme song it is my favorite song from the musical. It’s so incredibly beautiful and romantic ❤️
I cried when I heard 'For Good' on stage it has so much power and the connection between the two leading witches god this is fav song that'll make me listen to many times
I almost always cry when listening to the song. It's so bittersweet and sad because you know Elphaba and Glinda will never see each other again but they take the time to apologize and appreciate each other as friends.
I love that somebody finally recognized “As Long As Your Mine” from Wicked. It is such an underrated song that nobody really knows from wicked but is such a good duet.❤
This was a hoot - so many I didn’t know! - but my favorite duet is, “I Remember It Well” from Gigi. It’s so poignant. I thought you’d mention it for sure as a follow up to Fiddler’s “Do You Love Me?” Thanks for a terrific video.
Remember seeing Sunday In The Park With George with my dad and sister because my cousin was in part of the musical with the background music. She even went to a museum that had the painting that the play was about. Move On is one of the best duets I heard in a musical story ❤
Oh my gosh! The Confrontation from Les Miserables is so good. It’s such an interesting song because you get to hear the different sides of the two men blended together and put into passionate declarations…
@@kimberleyclarke2957 Yes it is. It makes me cry 95% of the time that I hear it and about 100% of the time that I see it. It’s gorgeous and heartbreaking
It would have been better if they had used Colm Wilkinson, the original Jean Valjean, in this. His voice is beyond compare. He was intended to be the original Phantom of the Opera but was doing Les Mis at the time. His performances as the Phantom in Toronto were perfection.
@@elizabethreed5957 He was absolutely PERFECT as Jean Valjean for sure. I’ve heard a little bit of him as the Phantom and I really do love him as it. His voice is so unique…His version of Bring Him Home from Les Miserables is just….gah…breathtaking, beautiful, heartbreaking and haunting as well as tender, emotional, soft and comforting
One of my favorite duets is “Who Will Love Me As I Am” from “Side Show.” It might not be as well known as the other musicals but it has a gorgeous score.
This is a great list that brings back memories of my childhood. My father played many of these characters on stage in San Diego Civic Light Opera. I would have to add Shall We Dance from The King and I.
We couldn't forget the original 1957 Cinderella (the only LIVE version of the three TV versions of the musical Cinderella). Julie Andrews' singing, dancing, expressing, and the ability of balancing them in the live performance, are divine.
So many of these musical duets are the greatest. I can think of a few others: .Waltz for Eva and Che- Evita .Therapy- Tick Tick Boom .Alone in the Universe- Seussical the Musical .Something to Believe In- Newsies the Musical .Not My Father's Son- Kinky Boots .The Phantom of the Opera- The Phantom of the Opera .Written In the Stars- Aida the Musical
I love For Good in Wicked. I don’t know how many times I’ve said Wicked is my favorite musical but I love it so much. I just love how Stephen Sondheim did it. This duet touches my heart all the time
"How Long" Hadestown. Despite it winning best musical in 2019 I still feel like it is uber underated. Anaïs Mitchell writes bass and alto music so freaking well and "How Long" is one of the best low register duets, which is rather rare.
How could you omit, “What You Mean to Me” from “Finding Neverland”? Such a glorious, stirring and sensual duet with impeccable harmonies, mostly sung by the female soprano part.
Written in the Stars from Aida the Musical is one of my favs Also not just the duets but the general vocal blending in Hadestown and also Shrek the Musicsl deserve a mention
You missed a wonderful duet, "Bess, You is my Woman Now" from Porgy and Bess. Might even beat the Carousel Bench Scene. And a quibble: "Ten Minutes Ago" from Cinderella: the show was written for television, not the stage. It was only years later that it was translated and expanded for Broadway.
Best Musical Chemistry? For Good -Wicked, The Phantom of the Opera -The Phantom of the Opera, Shine -Carrie, Take Me Or Leave Me -Rent, Out of My Head -A Bronx Tale, Tonight -West Side Story, Suddenly Seymour -Little Shop of Horrors, Crazy for You -The Addams Family and Summer Nights -Grease
So glad to see "A Little Fall of Rain" mentioned. Lea Salonga and Michael Ball - for me, the definitive Eponine and Marius. The most wrenching song from a score that leaves me breathless from start to finish - every single time.
As a Mention, I think you should have added I Got You Beat from Shrek the Musical. Sutton Foster belts beautifully in all she does and its a really fun duet, too. Speed, notes, two over-lying sets, I just love her and Its Just Fun!! And I think For Good should have been first- two awesome vocals that rang out incredibly together.
I might be a little biased but Little Women has a couple of great duets. Whether it’s Could You, More Than I Am, Some Things Are Meant To Be, or Small Umbrella there’s just incredible music and harmonies
It is an ENTIRE CRIME not to show the 'All I Ask of You' duet between Michael Ball and Sierra Boggess. Firstly, it's at an event and Andrew Lloyd Webber is ON THE PIANO. Secondly it really shows the massive skill of both performers' acting and singing chops. Their chemistry leaps off screen, I blushed the ENTIRE TIME. Please, please google it and watch it, I am begging you.
Sue Me, from Guys and Dolls. Twin Soliloquies, from South Pacific. He and She, from Boys from Syracuse. The Rain in Spain, from My Fair Lady. Make Believe, from Show Boat. I date myself. 🤣
Check out duets from the OBC of The Mystery Of Edwin Drood, esp Two Kinsmen, Perfect Strangers, and Settling Up The Score. Not romantic duets (Perfect Strangers is a breakup song) but thise duets by that cast are exceptional. Great list, btw 👍🏼❤
"I got you beat" from Shrek the musical should've been on this top, it's one of the best Broadway duets (in my opinion) happy wednesday morning Ms Mojo, take care and God bless you, greetings from Colombia.
I'm sorry but whoever makes the musical theatre lists is so biased towards certain shows and certain styles. The fact that "Lily's Eyes" from Secret Garden doesnt have its own spot....it is probably the greatest male/male duet in musical theatre....ever, followed by "Youre Nothing Without Me" from City of Angels. Both are show stoppers in their respective shows, they both are HUGE plot moments, and written better than most.
Hugh Jackman has such a great voice I’m so glad he didn’t drink water and chain smoked or whatever he did to prepare for the role of Jean Valjean so he could have a raspy crackly voice for us to enjoy during the Les Mis Movie…
@@jeanetteking434 I know that Russell Crowe can sing but just because the cast sang purposely "bad" to be real doesn't mean they couldn't sound partially jarring.
I have soft spots for the following as well: Here I Go - If/Then Stronger & When Your Feet Don't Touch the Ground - Finding Neverland Therapy - Tick Tick Boom Pretty Women & A Little Priest from Sweeney Todd I Must Have Done Something Good - The Sound of Music Travel Song & I Think I Got You Beat - Shrek the Musical Baptize Me - The Book of Mormon Take It Like a Man & Legally Blonde - Legally Blonde The Plauges - The Prince of Egypt

I think "Too Many Mornings" from Sondheim's FOLLIES deserves a place on this list. It is musically stunning and lyrically captures the regret of the love that didn't get to happen.
For Good from Wicked is beautiful song ever and between Idina Menzel and Kristin Chenoweth had a great voice and beautiful and i think before covid 19 hits
After listening to the album for the Broadway version of Bridges of Madison County, I was shocked to see just how short-lived it was; it was only on Broadway for only 4 months?! It's mind-blowing to me that such a good show was cut so short. But hey, it won a Tony Award. I have one question, HOW HAS KELLI O'HARA NOT WON A TONY YET?!
Really? I just saw it regionally and enjoyed the story but really did not enjoy the music. The style seemed completely at odds with the story and didn't add anything to the characters or the plot for me. If anything it felt like the plot stalled so the song could happen. The 2 exceptions were 2 songs (don't even remember the names) that were sung from outside the main scene and functioned more like a movie soundtrack or ambiance.
@@ThexImperfectionist Bridges score is phenomenal. Listen to the cast album. The performance you heard mught have been bad and weak musically.JRB is my favorite composer of all time. Try lisrtening to the original cast album for " Songs for a New World"..NOT the revival.

Candide - Oh, happy we!
A crime nothing from Greatest Showman
Can't believe you didn't include "Bosom Buddies" from "Mame"!
My fav is Parade but I was shocked that there’s nothing from Once

"Tonight" is my favorite song in _West Side Story._ it's very sweet and beautiful when you hear it the first time, and oh so tragic yet still beautiful every time after that.
As good as the duet is, my favorite song from the score is Tonight quintet. It takes the love song of the duet and adds anger, anticipation, and lust.
Idina Menzel being the original voice behind "Take Me or Leave Me" and "For Good" and being so high on this list, makes me so happy!
"Nowadays", sung by Velma Kelly & Roxie Hart in "Chicago".
"Bosom Buddies" sung by Mame Dennis & Vera Charles in "Mame".

I love that somebody finally recognized “As Long As Your Mine” from Wicked. It is such an underrated song that nobody really knows from wicked but is such a good duet.❤
I LOVE that song! It’s so beautiful and romantic.
One of my favourite songs in a musical
that song made me pansexual
Mandy Patinkin and ANYONE he sings with. I'd listen if he was singing with Donald Duck.
Very surprised not to see "Till There Was You" this even as an honorable mention
I can't believe Wheels of a Dream from Ragtime didn't even get a mention.
This was a hoot - so many I didn’t know! - but my favorite duet is, “I Remember It Well” from Gigi. It’s so poignant. I thought you’d mention it for sure as a follow up to Fiddler’s “Do You Love Me?” Thanks for a terrific video.

Shall We Dance from The King and I
My favorite part of a musical, a duet. Mostly solo songs but duets takes the cake
Love this list! But I definitely wished to see The Last Five Years on here (almost every song is literally a duet 😂) ❤
"Do You Love Me?"
A true musical classiic.
I Always KNEW One Of The Wicked Songs Was One Of BEST MUSICAL CHEMISTRIES In Broadway History!
The Schuyler Sisters is definitely the best musical trio song.

“In His Eyes” from Jekyll and Hyde deserved a place on this list.

I'm so excited that Bonnie & Clyde got some recognition!! Painfully underrated. Love me some Laura Osnes and Jeremy Jordan!! ❤️

Jeremy Jordan is so amazing. I listen to his version of “it’s all coming back to me” all the time in the car.

As Long As You’re Mine from Wicked is also amazing. It’s not as popular as For Good but it is still amazing
John Barrowman and Daniel Boys do an excellent cover of "I Know Him So Well" Its so powerful.
Definitely For Good with the two ladies ❤
