    I haven’t read or heard the Edge described by ASICS as a shorter distance racer, but rather in some comments by runners who may find the geometry more aggressive. ASICS seems stuck on the biomechanical distinction (emphasizing cadence vs stride length), however, some reviewers have speculated that the Sky might work better for midfoot/forefoot strikers and the Edge for midfoot/heel strikers. Basically one has to try them both. I have (though not side by side) and I’d be hard-pressed to say the difference is “striking” (pun intended!) but as a very high cadence mostly midfoot striker, the Edge did feel like it pitched me forward a bit more whereas the Sky provided more vertical bounce. Regardless, the difference is subtle, they have the same drop and amount of cushion. One other thing: My coach’s wife is a shoe specialist who has consulted for several major brands and she asserts that nearly all runners get wear on that lateral patch alongside the heel. After touching down there we generally pronate onto wherever our full landing is before toeing off again. True heel strikers get wear in the very back portion of the heel. And yes, most runners heel strike more when tired (including pros) which is why there’s ample heel cushion in both models.

      Mostly agree however I do find the differences to be clearer for me. With the Sky Paris it keeps me heel to midfoot and I struggle to get onto my toes. I just don't activate the plate. With the Edge this works much better and I roll and sink into the forefoot after landing midfoot. The Sky puts a much bigger strain on my Achilles. They went back and I love the Edge. The difference in plate position is huge for me.

      Brilliant Martha. Very insightful. I went and looked it up on the ASICS site and there is something about powering through the wall 30km in so it’s definitely intended to be a marathon shoe. I saw an instagram post with every brand and their shoe for intended distance + other reviewers talking about it for short distance both seeded that idea 💡 in my head.
      There is a roll through for the shoe but it’s very subtle compared to other super shoes I’ve tried and I think it’s like because the bounce mutes it a bit. I’ll have to look for true heel damage on my old shoes - thanks !

      @@Fozzee.1970Thank you for this very helpful feedback. It sounds like you were able to try them much more thoroughly than I to get a more solid comparison, and you reinforced my impression from only trying one (Sky) in a running store and the other (Edge) much later at the Boston pop up. You’ve corroborated my hunch that the Edge would work much better for my biomechanics.

      @@MidLifeRunnerYou’re far from the only one who ran across that use-case distinction idea, but it seems logical the forward-pitch of the Edge’s roll geometry would make the it seem more aggressive and therefore preferred for HM and under for some runners who would otherwise choose the Sky for marathons.

    Fellow Alphafly 3 sweepstakes failure here. Ugh. My one issue with this shoe is stability. I like a narrow/nimble shoe, especially for racing, but this one can be rough on cambered roads and non-optimal pavement. Beyond that it is wonderful though.

    in the Paris model the foam is supercritical thats why better feeling

  • @Nyelands
    @Nyelands 2 месяца назад

    @Midlife Runner you picked the wrong shoe if you land mid to forefoot. The Sky Paris' has more flare (therefore more foam) on the forefoot and the plate is closer to the foot, which means you will compress more foam when you land mid to forefoot and will get more energy return. If you are a heel striker the Edge might be best because the rocker starts earlier and you will get a faster turnover when you land on the heel. Something to think about.

    What’s up big nuts hahaha.
    Carbon shoe question for newbie. Only carbon shoes I have are Saucony Pro 3 and use for speed runs. Every time I use them, my calves are sore for days afterwards and few months back I had Achilles pain for quite sometime after a marathon training long run. Is that due to bad form, where the plate is located, weak legs, etc. Sorry for vague question but curious if a shoe like this would be any different for my bitch legs.

    • @levandmarthapolyakin-aaron2183
      @levandmarthapolyakin-aaron2183 3 месяца назад +1

      Since carbon plates are stiff so prevent shoes from bending and this is the 1st CP shoe you’ve tried, it may be altering your mechanics in a way that’s causing that. The plated race shoes compensate for their rigidity by having a roll geometry but each brand’s is different and it may not suit your stride. Normally I would wonder if they’re a lower drop (differential between the heel and toe stack height) than your other shoes, which can work the back of your legs more, but the Endo Pro3 are an 8 mm drop which isn’t that low unless you’re used to 10 mm or more. The Asics race shoes have an even lower drop so if that has anything to do with your issues they wouldn’t help. Also curious for reference what are your other shoes that do not cause this?

I’m still relatively new to running to still trying to find exactly what’s right for me but my max week was 50 miles and 90% of that were in the Speed 4 and never had any pain or issue even at uptempo days.

      No Justin, I do Achilles strengthening every week with heavy calf loading, slow descents . The ONLY shoe that bothers my Achilles is the endo pro 3. When I was between marathons I did 4 weeks at 80 miles and I had to cut a long run short because of the shoe. I thought at the time it was overuse but I think it is the shoe and how it forces my roll through and dorsiflexion. I didn’t have a problem in the speed 3.
      I would suggest a higher plated shoe like an alphafly or sky Paris . Vaoorlfy works my calves too so would stay away from that one .
