    As I strolled by my local running shoe store, I noticed that they had both the EdgeP and the SkyP on display. I tried on one pair and ran around the block. I tried on the other pair and ran around the block. Then I put one shoe on the left foot and the other shoe on the right foot and ran around the block. Then I switched shoes on the other feet and ran around the block. The clear winner for me was the SkyP. I don't buy into that marketing jargon: cadence runner vs stride runner. As a mid-to-forefoot striker, the SkyP just felt more responsive. Thanks, Edd.

      Another way some have differentiated between these models (Kofuzi, eg) is that midfoot -toward-rear strikers might prefer the Edge and vice versa, as your preference indicates.

      Disagree. I'm a forefront striker and the plate position here gives more cushion in the front.
      The Paris plate is higher so firmer but more bounce feel. Not sure where people are getting the edge is firmer , but I guess we're all different
      I prefer the edge .

    Both are obviously great shoes and you did a nice job of identifying the somewhat subtle differences. My racing days are over, so at that price I would be looking for a more durable outsole. Not the shoe for me, but glad to see what ASICS is up to. Ran in Dynablast 3 this morning. Great value in a daily trainer.

    I've never run in any of the vaporfly/alphafly models, but wanted something a bit more aggressive than the endorpin pro 3, so I got the edge paris. I was absolutely wowed by the volatile bounce of the shoe, it felt like they were made for my short, low to the ground stride. I was warned that ffturbo+ is quite firm, but that wasn't my experience at all. Very comfortable shoe, but I'm not a long distance runner.

      Nice detailed comment. Anything else you like that you didnt mention. I have short legs too, so im more cadence as well. I love asics so much, but im torn between the new balance sc elite and the metaspeed edge. Please provide any info u can. Thank you

    • @theghostofpcs2391

      @@Mar2Legit Well, the Edge Paris is seriously fast, but it's also pretty unstable. It's a narrow shoe, that's very nimble, but it doesn't like uneven surfaces. It's a shoe you want if you're going after PBs. I haven't run in the newest SC Elite, but I have in the RC Elite v2 and SC Elite v3, so the New Balance is probably the one you want if you prioritize comfort and stability over longer distances. And I've noticed that experiences wildly vary, when it comes to the Edge Paris. A lot of people seem to prefer the Sky, and some even say that the Edge doesn't have any bounce... I am predominantly a forefoot striker, so that's maybe where the difference lies, but the shoe feels insane to me. Somewhere in the middle of these shoes lies the Adios Pro 3 (which I love very much), which is also worth considering. It will have more pep than the SC Elite v4, while being more stable than the Edge Paris.

    I bought the Sky Paris and was so impressed I bought the Edge as well. I have been surprised to find that it is the Edge that gives me the faster pace so far, even though according to Garmin I am most definitely a runner who increases his stride length more than cadence when I pick up the pace. I find that there is a distinct difference between the two, with the Edge the ride feels flatter and high stacked from heel to toe when warming up; but then with the miraculously light build it proves to be springy and light and this is my favourite race day shoe of the year. Puma Elite 3 being no.2 and Sky Paris no.3😀

  • @cdh79
    @cdh79 Месяц назад +2

    I just got mine in yesterday, and it was coincidentally a threshold day, so on they went.. I did read a lot about them and saw a few reviews, and they were definitely less "snappy" than I had expected, but very comfortable and fast (and light).
    I had ordered the Sky Paris as well, but had to return them due to size issues, so I can't do a 1-to-1 comparison, but that's what we have you for ;) (they only had the Edge Paris in my size left, so that's why I went for them). I am training for a marathon at the moment, so listening to you, they may be the better option anyway and I can definitely see myself running long distances with them. I might still shop around other stores to see if any of them have the Sky Paris in my size in stock so I can make a definite comparision, but so far I am definitely happy.

    I have both and, once again Ed, I wholly agree with your assessment of these shoes and their subtle but noticeable differences. The Sky Paris is bouncier and lifts me up more to extend my strides while the Edge Paris keeps my feet lower to the ground for rolling over more smoothly. Do you notice the difference in the positioning of the rocker under the forefoot? Another subtle difference but does make the Edge better suited for higher cadence. That being said, the differences are minor and there are way more similarities between the two. If I had to choose only one, it'd be the Sky Paris but I can easily see why some would prefer the Edge Paris.

    I finally had a chance to try both at the Asics Boston pop up last April. As a very petite runner (lightweight and not long legged) with an innate high cadence, I did feel the Edge was more natural for me, which bears out your observations--especially at marathon pace, which is the main use case for me. I love the Takumi Sen for shorter, faster racing. So far I have plenty of miles left on my Endo Pro 3 but would consider the Edge Paris for a future marathon candidate. Another way to differentiate between these models (per Kofuzi) is that rear midfoot strikers might prefer the Edge whereas fore to midfoot striker may do better with the Sky. As a solid midfoot but slightly to rear striker with a very high cadence, it’s not surprising I found the Edge more natural.

    • @EDDBUD
      @EDDBUD  Месяц назад +1

      It was an observation as I tried different paces and became quite pronounced as I tried the edge. Interesting they decided to use the same naming. Maybe a good idea to differentiate it more next time at least with colourway!

    I did a brief test jog in both Sky Paris and Edge Paris and I felt more forward directed energy return in Edge Paris. I think if I buy one, it will probably be Edge Paris. I am a heavier runner with a tendency of landing midfoot to rear of the shoe.

  • @frankocarroll7049

    Great review, as always :) I have both, and prefer the Edge. I bought the Sky first and was a little underwhelmed so bit the bullet when I saw the edge at a slightly discounted price :) I'm mid to forefoot striker and pretty light (61kg). Both my stride and cadence increase as I speed up but I *think* it's the rocker that makes it a faster shoe for me. I did a very unscientific test at the track; doing a 2 mile interval in each, with the Nike Alphafly along too. Sky Paris was slowest, followed by Alphafly (2 secs per mile quicker) with the Edge Paris (8 secs per mile quicker). Obviously enough small sample size and it was quite a blustery day. Incidentally, I have always ran much better in the Alphafly (1&3) compared to Vaporfly (2)

    A note on the laces: maybe it’s my feet, but I find the supplied laces in the MSPs/MEPs way too short - to the point it’s almost impossible to double knot them when using the runner’s loop. I ended up using the brilliant Mizuno Zeroglide laces, which come in multiple lengths, and a great neon colour which match the fluro detail on the sole. They also have this ‘sticky’ silicon coating which means they stay exactly where you need them…

    Great review as always Ed. For what it's worth I have just had delivered today one pair of each so I could choose which I think would be better for me. The Edge fit me a bit better the Paris has a wider toe box and feels definitely softer but both fit true to size for me in UK 8.5 and are very comfortable. I think I will however be keeping the Sky they feel similar to the Alphafly 3 but less bulky which is a bit different. I would liken the Edge to the Adidas Adios Pro 3, Vaporfly 3 and Saucony Pro 3 with a firmer ride with the aggressive toe rocker. I have a few of those types already so the Sky is something a bit different but both are great shoes even in the Cocktail Lemon colorway..

    Enjoy the sky as I really am not a heel striker and roll through vs the sky as you mentioned just trampolined/bounce along as I land on my mid foot and then spring off my forefoot. Still have done my PB's in the half with the sky and would buy a second pair, and the edge did not really do anything for me when I tested it-Maybe at a marathon distance if I tire and start striking my heel then yes the edge would work better though I don't think I w pi hold like it on the first parts of a marathon. I feel the edge "forces" you to run a certain way and the sky just lets you do your thing. Maybe strange I'm saying this because I enjoy the adios pro 3's and their carbon rods scoop down more but not like the edge or VP3 .

If I'm honest I prefer the vaporfly 3 to the edge paris (they both have the same plate configuration) and I prefer the Alphafly 3 the most. since the Alphafly 3 has a more neutral plate configuration perhaps I would like the sky paris more.. I personally found the zoomx in the alphafly 3 to just feel much more enjoyable on the run. happy I didnt pass on the af3 since I felt that the AF2 was maybe the most awful shoe I've ever run in, that shoe just gave me blisters everywhere on my feet.

As an average height but short-legged runner I run at a high cadence so determined that these would suit me well and my word, they're incredible to race in, just so happy at race-paces. But they are very much a race-day only option and even then only for target races. Race shoes should be used for races only, plus a bit test runs. When they have done a few ones or you feel like you need a new race shoe then you can also use it for training. This way you get more races out of your race shoe. You don't want to spend absurd numbers of earth credits and only get two races out of them.

      My idea is to use race shoes for races and work out shoes for work out runs. If you have done for example 300 km of races then you can start also using it for training runs. Now it's time to buy some new race shoes.
      This will give you more races out of your shoes.
