A man befriends a fellow criminal as the two of them begin serving their sentence on a dreadful prison island, which inspires the man to plot his escape.
Actually, yes he has. The warden's hair did grey slightly. He was more blonde before. Of course he has not changed too much, because it has only been five years. The reason why Papillon has aged so rapidly is because of the horrible conditions in which he lived in. Locked away in a concrete box for years with no light and barely any food. It does a number on the human body. In fact, Papillion isn't actually that old here. He's supposed to be in his late 30s by the time he is sent to Devil's Island, at least in the book.
@@xxfalconarasxx5659Tons of people talk about Solitary Confinement being a “good punishment” Its not. Death would be a better option than Solitiary especially if they throw you in there for years.
He never did 5 years solitary.Yes he did the two of his first term but when getting actually 8years he had served 20 months when the human rights lot said they needed an hour outside or swimming each day.20 month in he was on his hour outside when a guards child fell into a certain part of water which was shark infested. He jumped in to save the kid.A boat got there first but his effort got his solitary commuted
I think I found an error. Papillon gets 5 years for his second escape attempt but Maturette only escaped once which should only get him 2 years. How can Maturette still be in the prison when Papillon gets out?
@@monkeyface6139 It's a screenwriting fail that no one caught. They mixed up events from the books.....in reality the escape attempt with Maturette was the one that got them two years, and Papillon did the later five year sentence for killing another inmate, but the screenwriter rearranged all the scenes without thinking too closely.
Because at the attempt of escape that ended with a conviction of five years, he was forgiven for the most of the punishment because he saved a guard's daughter from sharks. The movie lied.
I swear at 1:29 to 1:37! That scene so reminds me in hbo prison show OZ 1997 Jonh Seda Actor character Dino Ortoloni where he is sent to a prison hospital area and meets talks to a hurt ill person named Emilo Sanchez!
Brilliant performance.
I found it interesting the guards saluting in respect for the dead prisoner as he was buried at sea
Maybe because he wasn't a prisoner anymore. Death made him a citizen again, his debt was paid in full. Just a thought, although it looked odd.
Watched this in the 90s with my grandad he was x military and loved it
What a perfomens RIP

The prison guard doesn't seem to have aged.
Firsyly, it's been only five years, main charachter aged because of on easy life

Maybe off-screen he had tried to escape before, or since he was another prisoner's second escape attempt accomplice, he got the same penalty.
I was thinking the same but it too glaring to be an error..
Must have been a previous attempt.

Pappillon remained puzzled until the end of his days..
WTF was that guy?
His escape friend... and died of colera

2:10 That looks so Van Gogh it's not even funny, I think I have seen a painting like that, but I cannot remember by whom.
It certainly does - excellent observation.
