What if: you do this with all the spices, in that same amount, but with just one bottle of cider (or even just apple juice), and cook down to a syrup. Then you add the hot syrup to the rest of the room temperature cider. That way, it will be warm, have all the flavours, but won't loose as much of the alcohol.
What is any cider/scrumpy cider? Is it apple cider vinegar or i mean where can I get this cider that's the base and "scrumpy"? Is it vinegar or wine or apple juice?
I am not sure i'll get an answer since this video is 6yo, but what could i replace vanilla with? My wife is allergic to it and it seems like it will make a difference if i leave it out without any replacement.
RefKirby You shouldn't bring it to the boil RefKirby, just a simmer for 5 mins (not 10). You're right though, if you DID boil it, it would burn off all the alcohol. Our advice is don't boil, just simmer!
I would really love to have a list of the ingredients, instead of writing them down during the video - makes it easier to translate them into different languages
+moranalilith It's a rough strong cider, especially as made in the West Country of England. You can indeed make this alcoholic, if you want to, though!
Good work Jamie. Never be afraid to chuck in a glug of rum and brandy as well! That's how we roll in the West country!
Downside to the all these wintery drinks: I'm in Australia.
Upside to all these wintery drinks: My birthday is in winter!
ChaingunCassidy This one's for you! ruclips.net/video/KzDanfzZfE4/видео.html
"Cinnamony", my new favorite word.
Rainbow Gardens And surprisingly difficult to say!
Can't wait to try this out. I've been looking for a good mulled cider recipe since trying it for the first time last week. Thanks Jamie xx
Fantastic! I love lemongrass scent! : )

Fantastic winter drink 😍
Making this on Saturday as we are having people back after the fireworks. Also making pulled pork, hot dogs, pumpkin soup and fresh rolls too 😍🌰🍂
That sounds amazing Katie - can we come too?!
That pan itself was pretty cauldron-like. Might have to try this.
Kael Great right? We want one of those for Drinks Tube HQ.
next time I make a batch of cider might just add the spices before fermentation to get a spicy cider
tomber220 YES!
Can you use vanilla bean paste or vanilla extract instead of the vanilla pod? And if so, how much do I use?
I think Jamie had a -few- LOT of glasses of this before he started recording XD

what temperature do you have to set the fire on?
jack Irving Just hot enough to simmer the cider, not too hot or it will boil.
Jamie Oliver's Drinks Tube thanks mate:)

Love an old-school Jamie vid! Ever tried mulled beer though? ruclips.net/video/1YUVYjQop6M/видео.html
Jamie's hair has gone retro! Thought it was showing a 2001 Naked Chef episode when I first started watching this video lol.
K Hewett Ha! This was filmed back in 2010 :)
Jamie Oliver's Drinks Tube brilliant! You and Gennaro should do a cannoli recipe together ;)
Savory frumpiness?!? Only Jamie can get away with a phrase like that...
😊
When was this filmed? Jamie looks younger.
It was filmed as part of Jamie's Best Ever Christmas which first aired on Channel 4 in the UK in 2010.
Jamie Oliver's Drinks Tube oh bummer (look at my recent comment above haha)
If its brought to the boil and simmered for 10 minutes, does that boil out the alcohol? :-(

Hi MaxSnip3s, thanks for the suggestion. We've just added the ingredient list to the description. :-)
What is scrumpy? Is it just the brand of apple cider? Can you use a non-alcoholic cider?
