Interesting to hear about how the plantations were set up. In Canada when it was a French colony we had the "Système Seigneurial" where nobles were given large pieces of land. They leased farmland to farmers that was put in narrow strips just like these on the St Lawrence River
I plan on watching all of your videos but need time in between for the nostalgia pain to dissipate. Been to NOLA about 30-40 times cuz conveniently relatives lived there. One lived on Valence for about 5 yrs and I often shopped up and down that street when in town. Always had to stop for cocktails too.
Excellent work. Can we be friends? That French Truck location was operating as a capoeira studio while French truck was operating out of a French Truck infront of stines. It looked like they were roasting further back in the block. I could see it from the bridge but never find it from the surface streets. Anyway we love walking to Fat Boy and getting the kids all caffeinated and sugared up then letting them go play in Coliseum Square. Thanks for your work. I can’t wait to go see the train in the sculpture garden, always heard of it, never been. Kids are champing at the bit to get out again. The last year has been tough on them.

Yes it did. Thank you. From my house on Magazine, my mom and sister and I used to walk to the zoo. I remember passing the dirty busy bus/trolley barn. We went to church there at St Stephens I think it was on Napoleon, and I would ride my bicycle to the Woolworth. The poboy shop on Valmont and Magazine used to be a little grocery store. And there was one or two parades we used to watch from the balcony. To many memories to mention.

The beginning of this street reminds me so much of Los Angeles... and then it turned into San Francisco, but with shorter buildings. I'm only 30 mins in though.. wonder what's coming next. _________ Okay, I finished & I have to say this is not what I thought Magazine Street was like at all. I'm not sure what I was expecting, but not this. I thought it was kind of boring! lol It seems like a very regular older American residential type neighborhood. The only thing that stood out to me as unique was the ironwork & the galleries. But that's probably just because I'm used to similar styles of architecture here California. Anyways, thank you for the walk! I've become obsessed with all of your walking tours. I love all of the historical & cultural knowledge you share. It's absolutely fascinating.
Oh Lord, I forgot about the Brothers Three. I remember now, I met a very cute boy there about 20 years ago. Time doth flit. ALSO, for Nine Inch Nails fans, at 23:25 the Physio-fit building he's in front of, kitty-corner, from Buddha Belly, used to be the nothing recording studio.
This is amazing...I Loved your walk...Do you know about parking in that area? Do they allow street parking is there a time limit on it (if they do)...I travel mostly by car/van...would need to park nearly by so I could walk the areas.
There is metered parking all along Magazine Street, itself. If you park river side of Magazine, meaning between Magazine St. and Tchoupitoulus, there is free street parking with no time limit. Magazine Street does not have many parking lots, FYI.
Thank you again, you make me happy, I can not believe how humans are so evil etc. You make my day happy because you are a great human, thank you so much!!😇🐝🐞🔥🌻🦚🐈🐕🐾💚🥑🌲🦌🐕🦺🍓🍒❤

Hey there - it was a full-scale church called Notre Dame de Bon Secour. You can see some photos here: neworleanschurches.com/notre-dame-de-bon-secours/index.htm As they point out on the linked page, parts of it survive in St. Mary's Assumption (the neighboring Catholic church for German-speakers) and others were passed along to Our Mother of Perpetual Help in the Garden District, now a private home. If I had to guess where they went from there, I'd think likely St. Mary's Chapel on Jackson Ave.

Wth is Breauxs? That was the A&P all my life. Man I recognize almost NOTHING. I left after the storm like most people. But I didn't think it had changed THAT much. You can see the house I grew up in and lived in until Katrina at 52:39 for a split second. I have my 12 yr old who has never seen it, sitting here with me. For an hour. And just when I'm bursting at the seems to show him exactly where I was at his age... A PINK DUMPSTER. WE'RE WATCHING A FRIGGING DUMPSTER. When he turns the camera back to my side of the street, its one house past it. I was like nooooooo please please go back! Just a peak, just a tiny glimpse ... Anything. But it wasn't meant to be. 2705 Magazine St.( ACROSS from the pink dumpster. ) I miss you and I hope you have been restored to your original splendor. Thank you for the walk down memory in the lane, literally. This is a wonderful video and I appreciate it so very much.

Wonderful tour!
Thanks. Please do share this video with anyone who you think might enjoy it. We would greatly appreciate that.
Very nice video
Great video
Thanks for watching, Hunter. If you know of anyone who might enjoy this video, please share it with him or her. We would appreciate it.
Great Job. Please keep going further.
Thank you, Sovann, we will. Stayed tuned because today Andrew walks down St. Charles Ave.
And if you know of anyone who might like these videos, please do share us with them. Thank you.
Thanks for the Video Andrew! I’ve been to Nola 5 times (without) visiting Magazine St. I’ll be sure to the next time I’m there. (Hopefully late May) 🙏

Alligator Eyes are a type of marble.
I lived at 5303 Magazine St for the first ten years of my life from 1956 to 1966
We hope this video brought back some warm and pleasant memories.
Yes it did.
Great videos!... I am looking to travel to NOLA, first time visit, which is a better area to stay at? Magazine Street or ByWater District? Thanks!

The beginning of this street reminds me so much of Los Angeles... and then it turned into San Francisco, but with shorter buildings. I'm only 30 mins in though.. wonder what's coming next.
_________
Okay, I finished & I have to say this is not what I thought Magazine Street was like at all.
ALSO, for Nine Inch Nails fans, at 23:25 the Physio-fit building he's in front of, kitty-corner, from Buddha Belly, used to be the nothing recording studio.
great content friend. Just subbed
Thanks for the sub! Glad you enjoyed it. Let us know what you think of our other video tours when you get the chance.
New Subbie from Louisiana 🥰🍤🐊
Thanks for subbing, Reunitta! We have lots planned over the next few weeks including heading out into Louisiana.
I had no Idea the Tee EVa had passed. I had a work freind that was displaced by Katrina over here in Mobile that would bring me "Candy". They were delicious!!

hey, could you add a walking tour on the gay areas and bars in nola? THANKS! love your tours!!!
Stay tuned in late May or early June.
Jefferson Market used to be Winn Dixie back in the 1970's !!
St. Patrick's Day is the day to be on Magazine Street for the parade next year! The Irish Channel (there's one in New Orleans and also in Houston) was where the immigrants settled in the 1800s, flourished and gave N"Awlins one of our very recognizable accent.s.
N’awlins? You’re not a local.
Do you have any walking tours in Lake Charles Louisiana and Sulphur Louisiana? Would be very interesting because of Pirate Jean Lafitte
These are places we might include in a future video. Thanks for the suggestions.
facts about xavier: produces the most black graduates who go on to enter and graduate from medical school. xavier graduates something like 15% of all black pharmacist in the country. it also produces the most black graduates with undergrad degrees in physics/biology. it's an hbcu but also a catholic school. amazing school.
Do you have a video specific to the Marigny?!?

Your tours are way better
Just curious. Why no mention of Lee Harvey Oswald’s New Orleans residence in 1963 on Magazine St. or the plaque marking his seat at Le Bon Temps Roule?
Hi Andrew love your videos. Is it true that one is visiting Nola that you are entering like a different country?
This is the case for many people. Many experience a realization that things are often different in New Orleans than the rest of the country.
If you haven't already done so, hopefully, you can check out our other virtual tours of New Orleans ruclips.net/p/PLpNEdLF6RWV3oDPK7SD9GOttlhvaGBsh2. We have videos all over the city.
@@FreeToursbyFootHQ Thank you! As a southern Californian, we come from totally different mentalities perhaps😁
It has a Caribbean vibe to it
I loved tee eva so much 💔
What was the name of the Uptown Catholic Church, where the French speakers attended mass? Was it a church or a chapel?
Hey there - it was a full-scale church called Notre Dame de Bon Secour. You can see some photos here: neworleanschurches.com/notre-dame-de-bon-secours/index.htm As they point out on the linked page, parts of it survive in St. Mary's Assumption (the neighboring Catholic church for German-speakers) and others were passed along to Our Mother of Perpetual Help in the Garden District, now a private home. If I had to guess where they went from there, I'd think likely St. Mary's Chapel on Jackson Ave.
What hotel is that
I enjoyed the tour and the history. I would never be able to walk that distance. Very nice video, very informative.
Thanks again for watching Rita!
I've walked Magazine Street many times pre - Katrina.

There is more where this came from!
New Orleans reminds me of my home Louisville, KY but with palm trees.
Maybe you have mentioned this before, David, but I feel like this isn't the first time I've heard this. I need to visit Louisville.
@Ugh K ....🙄
Isnt there a washateria with live music? Rock -n- bowl?
Where was that alter to Vera?
Are your regular non private tours for ghost tour only by audio ?
No. They are live guided tours.
I went to your website for date in august and there was no live guided tours on there just private and audio . Where do I go for that?
How long have you live in NOLA Andrew?
May want to mention that Casamento's is only open during oyster season, September to March.
And when Cassamentos went into hiatus in March, it was very depressing because the long and hot summer was not too far away.
That Christmas light bondage bear tho'...
What rea of town is this video taped in?
Uptown and the Irish Channel starting near Audubon Park.
Is the area that Whole Foods in being gentrified?
Best place to live in the New Orleans area that’s affordable?
The house across the street at 15:52 now a law office was once the home of cia agent Lee Harvey Oswald back in 1963
Thanks for watching the video and subscribing to our channel Brad. That's and interesting piece of information you have shared.

I would like to know: are there unique holidays in New Orleans that are observed in France?
Mardi Gras for one.
Has anyone told you Andrew, you sound very much like Tom Ford, the designer?
9:58 Shotgun houses are a French thing , in that taxes were determined by street frontage , street looks cleaned up from when I was there ,Lee Harvey Oswald lived on this street when he was there , guy is trying ,but kinda weak , but that's ok.
We are considering an Oswald locations tour video.
So it's bear season there😂
👏👏👏👏👏👏👏
Thank you, Gerri. Please share this video if you know of anyone who might also like it.
I was the 666th like to this video. Boo :)
Guessing your real name isn't Beelzebub. Glad you enjoyed the video.
🙂
Amen for physical therapy!
