Pop-up clearances are a life-saver… literally! I’ve had to get one before and it was just in the nick of time. Thanks for these videos. You’re doing a great service to aviation.
These videos are amazing man, I'm working on my instrument and about to do my check ride here shortly. I watch one of your videos every morning, they are superb, keep it up!
@@shred4fun476 Hey man! First off, congrats! I know I’m messaging you a year later, but I’ve just started my instrument training, any words of advice or tips that I should know about? Also, how’s your commercial rating going?
I've done pick-up enroute couple of times, but haven'd done any pop-up IFR enroute, that's something new to me! This video is great, I can always learn something new from Flightinsight! Really appreciate it!
Great Video. I flew into Tampa Executive not too long ago and had to ask for a Pop Up IFR. The first thing the controller asked me was "Is your aircraft IFR equipped and is the Pilot In Command IFR certified?"
The sequel, thanks for posting. An addition would be mentioning that your IFR flight plan is ONLY accepted after you received your clearance and read back, NOT for instance when you receive a squawk code.
your ifr video timing and my ifr training timing are in complete sync. Thanks for the video. Have you done a video on ATC communications when doing an IFR practice approach into a towered airport?
no but that's a good idea. A lot of places have their own requirements for asking for practice approaches, and sometimes you may need B or C airspace clearance to make the minimum altitudes required. Thanks for the idea!
I really appreciate these videos you make! I fly around NW Florida and have attempted to request a "pop-up" clearance by first filing with flight service. I was too unfamiliar with the ICAO codes they requested and ended up fumbling a bit.... Hoping to give it another shot soon because this is a great tool to have.
To get a pop-up ifr in weather conditions shown here, should you have climbed vfr to 4000 before entering the clouds and then requested the pop up ifr? Or can you climb while flying in circles to get to the altitude before going ifr?
Why contact Roswell Approach for the clearance when you are departing that area? Why not contact Roswell Departure. I'm just starting IFR ground school so lots to learn, find your videos fantastic!
Look for the name of the chart at the top right corner of the chart supplement for your airport. For example, airport M25 lists low altitude enroute chart L-16.
If ATC denies you a pop up clearance, can you switch to flight service, ask for a clearance or flight plan, and then go back to ATC? And will they HAVE to accept you?
So you stated that when requesting a pop-up IFR the controller will ask if you “pilot” and the plane are IFR rated and current.. is this always the case? I watched a Air safety video where a non IFR pilot accepted an IFR flight plan and controller said nothing? I’ve included the video if you haven’t seen it. ruclips.net/video/ROCUheRin9U/видео.html
I'm a controller and we usually don't ask if a pilot is requesting an ifr clearance, we assume that you know what you're qualified for. The times we are definitely going to ask is if you're VFR and start encountering IMC that way we can just give you an ifr clearance and don't have to declare an emergency.
Thank you, doing these at my desk has made my real world flying a lot less stressful.
Glad you're able to do some "desk" flying

Did you pass the checkride? Hoping the answer is "yes" !
@@StepAttitude Sure did! Working on my commercial now at the moment, Florida weather sure hasn’t made it easy though 😂

All these videos are amazing. Great, simple graphic depictions of what is going on. Excellent stuff.
Exceptional layout, animation and value-added content. Concise, relevant.

You make my favorite educational videos regarding aviation. Merry Christmas 🎉!
This is great information, especially the last scenario in the Blue Ridge Mountains. Thank you.
Gotta love the Blue Ridge!
My friend , all your videos are so amazing . i learn so much from you than from my instructor . good job
Great Video. I flew into Tampa Executive not too long ago and had to ask for a Pop Up IFR. The first thing the controller asked me was "Is your aircraft IFR equipped and is the Pilot In Command IFR certified?"
Very helpful, to understand this part of comunication, great content.
Phenomenal graphics!! Great job.
Thanks for the series as I am studying for the written test. Your videos really help.
Thanks, when's the big day?
No set date. Still working on the written part, just taking it easy for now. Thanks for asking.

These videos are great, Im training for my ifr rating now. Where do you find the smaller divided sections of the mva on a chart?
Let’s goooo Roswell! I went to military school there!
wow this video is amazing! i am soo impressed! thanx

Great! Let us know how your progress is going
Great Video. Thanks
YOU ASK THE ATC ON VF RADIO FOR CHANGE OF FLIGHT PLAN TO IFR?

AFTER SETTING THE MODE PANEL YOU TYPE PTS NOTAM IN NOTICES TO AIR MISSIONS: TO LAND RUNWAY ?
Thanks!

THEN, WHEN IFR APPROVED, YOU ASK FOR FACILITY CONTROL? THEN WHEN YOU GET FACILITY CONTROL? THEN ACTIVE/ACTIVE/ACTIVE DME THEN SET THE TRANSPONDER?
Why contact Roswell Approach for the clearance when you are departing that area? Why not contact Roswell Departure. I'm just starting IFR ground school so lots to learn, find your videos fantastic!
On the chart it says app/dep con. It’s the same freq for both.
Love these videos. A question for you. VFR charts are named by the city they are around, how do you know what IFR chart to use?
Look for the name of the chart at the top right corner of the chart supplement for your airport. For example, airport M25 lists low altitude enroute chart L-16.
Great vid
Thanks so much!
Thanks for everything
You're most welcome!
Mine local airport sadly does not have an IFR approach, so can I fly IFR and land VFR?
If ATC denies you a pop up clearance, can you switch to flight service, ask for a clearance or flight plan, and then go back to ATC? And will they HAVE to accept you?
YOU MUST BE AT LEAST 800 FEET FROM CLOUDS AND 1000 FEET BELOW THE STRATA?
When I did a popup ifr they wanted me to read each line of the flight plan filing form over the radio.
I feel so confused, typically flights schools don’t teach you picking it up in the air and none of the videos are in order on the playlist so
Remember the standby word
